con one : I dont care. The odo is the indicator... another one is the reserve switch. RPM gauge can be bought at some store. con two: who cares. I ain't speeding but you can get it up to speed for all that matters to get there. 110 km/h is the max speed in Canada so I'd ride at about 125 for comfortable ride if all is good. in sense of safety! con three: You can learn. at least it's a cable could be the problem.
Ok.....As a previous owner of an XV 250. I will point out a few things for you peeps. 1] On the side of the Odo, there is a knob. The Knob is to reset the trip meter! .... So if you get 78 mpg on that 9 liter tank,.... That equates to 185 miles...or about 298 kilometers...... Sooooo, whenever you gas up,.... Rotate the trip meter knob so that the meter says 0 again..... then after say 200 km's, first trip.... check the tank level as you did in the video, and if good, ... use that as your marker for fill-ups..... Just remember to reset the trip meter after each fill and you are Golden. 2] For a 20 hp V-twin, the Virago 250, XV 250, is plenty fast enough to get you up to speed, and Yes... the 250's name is Virago.... The main top-out speed for this bike is 80 mph !.... not 85-ish when you crashed into the rev-limiter as you said you did in the video. The bike is 327 lb's wet... put the pillion back on, put a back rest on it and get your self a "street-shield" windscreen from National Cycle, put some leather side bags on it,. And you will have yourself a small Bagger... which is what I did for about $800. 3]..... Being that it is a V-twin, it might look small next to a Harley at a Cafe .... but it won't look out of place like a 300 CC sport bike might. .... And yes, it is Fast off the mark for a bike of its caliber.....Just remember that it red-lines at 8000 rpm not 4500 like the 883.... So ride it like a Sport-Bike not a Sport-ster and you won't have any issues keeping up on main roads and highways 75 mph or less. First gear is kinda like Bull-Low... meant for is if you are in a rut or on dirt roads, and need torque. 2nd, 3rd, are for good for steep road inclines, 4th gear is the general usage gear, where you can zip around on level ground in city and you might need to stomp on it and go from 25 mph to 55 mph in a flash, and 5th gear is the over-drive gear.... 50 to 80 mph on hwy. Nuff Said .... Stay Safe .... Ciao.
Really appreciate your comment. Nobody talks about going fast, but mine is smooth. I got one 4 months ago. I'm going 70 on the freeways, no trouble. I aim to find out if it can do 70-75 all day and cross the country. I've had it at 80 on level ground, but I'm new to riding and taking it step by step. I'm loving this bike. It's easy, efficient, and fast for a 250. I go real careful and cautious in city traffic and match the average speed with everyone else on the freeway. My Virago seems to do it all in terms of just getting places. It's no racer, but I'm no racer either. Your comment is the only thing I've read that matches my experience of having no trouble at all on freeways.
I am learning from your video and people's comments, thank you to all of you. You know what I am 67 years old and going to take the first lesson this Saturday at Clutches. Yea, I am a crazy old guy but it has been my dream my whole life to ride on a bike. Your bike is so beautiful and I think I will get the same one, by the way, that's the beach I always visit.

Another con on my 2009 was that first gear seemed way too low for my taste. A sprocket change made all the difference in the world. This is apparently a common observation. Stock on mine was 16f/45r and I changed both sprockets to 17f/42r. Mileage is great 75-80 mpg Great video!

Yamaha Vstar 250 is the absolute PERFECT starter bike. I love it. It looks BADASS, and everything about it is perfect as a first bike, or even a 10th bike to go to the store.
I'm thinking of getting a new bike after owning a honda shadow vt500c from 1983. I think the vstar 250 might fit the bill. Its a beauty! Thank you for sharing the pros and cons!
Good review of The Vstar! I've been riding motorcycles small and large for a long time and yea, The Vstar does not have a slipper clutch! I had a Vstar 650 and it was definitely not a slipper clutch! I've been riding for over 50yrs, and I may pick one up for around town. It'll be cheap fun. My current ride is a 2013 Yamaha Super Tenere. I may sell it, and keep the V-Star, then pu a 2nd bike. The Kawasaki Vulcan Voyager for longer trips is on my radar. Gotta have cruise control....👍😺

Hey Crestfallen, if you are looking for a bigger cruiser that will suffice you for the next 10 yrs or so, .... Get yourself a Bolt R-spec. (950 cc, 65 Hp at 5780 rpm),... the HD 883 is about 50 hp, the 1200 about 72 hp. the 883 is heavier and is about 30 inches in the seat height... the Bolt is 27 inches unladen. And it goes like stink, with a top end of 107 mph,( 173 kph). As for mods to it.... A high flow K&N filter is all you need... and of course a Kuryakyn adapter plate for the filter, etc. If you want to re and re a new 2 into 1 muffler onto it ... it will need to be re-mapped on a dyno for the ECU as the back pressure is now changed....Myself....I would keep the Stock muffler. as when you open up the throttle on the bolt,.past 10% under load.. It will drown out any HD beside it. .... as for the rest... new seat , LED lights....it's yours to mod.... Stay Safe
It's a shame that it costs almost $5k new. The Z400 is looking better and better as a starter bike; price wise. If it was $3k it would be a no-brainer though.

My girlfriend has this bike. I changed the front headlight to an LP6 clone from Amazon, added front crash bars, paint matched saddlebags, a USB port, heated grips, and cleaned up some of the wiring (necessary if you relocate the rear turn signals to make room for hard bags). It’s a good bike for commuting / running errands around town. Slow as sin though lol
There really are no cons young man.. Your clutch should not be hard or getting harder. Q.. How many miles on it, Did ya wear the chutch plates out, When have ya lubed up the clutch cable.. On and on?
I'm sorry I only watched about 3 minutes of your video you could probably shorten your time up to about 1/3 of the video the video time if you didn't repeat yourself constantly
Pros: Relibility, availability of parts to maintain them, speed (for a 250) economy, carburater, and looks. Cons: Handling, braking, its weight, range and price. Oddities: Fake exhaust pipe, gauge from the 1950's with no gas inidcator, tachometer, or even seperate turn signal indicators. Verdict: Its not a beginner bike, as if you get into trouble, this bike has little in the way of getting you out of it. Its a underpowered second bike, or a good last bike to run around on. But for a new rider, there is way too many chances to have a F**ed up day as it is without having bad brakes, skinny tires, and being thrown around due to its weight.

Slow as sin though lol
haha yea it is slow but hell that never stopped me from having fun on it !
your clutch cable needs to be oiled with light machine oil
Thats california?
Yep
@@raritymotovlogs900 👍
you don't need a fuel gauge your petcock has a reserve valve
There really are no cons young man.. Your clutch should not be hard or getting harder. Q.. How many miles on it, Did ya wear the chutch plates out, When have ya lubed up the clutch cable.. On and on?
I have, it’s a lot more bearable now
4 con : No ABS
So tell me, is it fast 😂
heck yea. fastest thing on the street when i throw a leg over 🥴😂
No Parking!
Lol yep parks bike in no parking area and does video.
I'm sorry I only watched about 3 minutes of your video you could probably shorten your time up to about 1/3 of the video the video time if you didn't repeat yourself constantly
Bro.. you killed my vibe at the FIRST PRO... sorry I stopped the video and disliked!
Put your darn phone away. That was annoying
No sir Had my notes on it

@@raritymotovlogs900 Practice your script a few times, then record without needing to look at the screen. A bit like watching a movie where the actor has to look at a smartphone for their lines. Respect for what's said, but while it was not annoying for me, it showed a lack of preparation or effort IMHO. Want more views? Gotta step up your game.
I didn't know you could borrow out a tier how do you do that
