- Kendrick Lamar's fanbase has got to be one of the biggest meat riding fanbases ever. His fans have gotten MUCH worse after diss tracks like Euphoria, 6:16 in LA, Meet The Grahams and Not Like us. They are the most annoying hip-hop fans that I have ever dealt with. And in this video, I explain why I think this. I’m relatively new to Kendrick and I found his diss to be the best diss of hip hop and rap (specifically not like us) but holy shit k dot stands are the most pretentious and snobby people about a rapper. A guy who makes a living entertaining you with raps is somehow comparable to Freud, Oppenheimer, Tesla, and all these scientists and scholars because he makes music that takes slightly more effort to produce? Yeah he can make good metaphors and artistic interpretations about emotions and scenarios but that isn’t exclusive to Kendrick, rap, or art as a whole, This isn’t new ground but k fans swear up and down that Kendrick “brought real rap back and not twerk music”
Essentially they’re the Rick and Morty fans of hip hop if you ask me

i think the real kendrick fans who actually listened and analyzed his music from front to end to my knowledge aren't toxic at all. If anything they are actually pretty calm and somewhat objective when it comes to the beef with drake. However, it's the people who recently hopped on to the drake hate train or people who only read about kendricks music based on other people's opinions through social media platforms without actually listening to his music are the most toxic ones. Most of em probably listened only listened his most mainstream songs and now all of a sudden they think they are more informed on social justice than anyone else.

I used to think that Pac Stans are the worst but Kendrick Stans take the cake.
They assume that everyone who's not feeling Kendrick doesn't listen to rap. I think it's safe to assume that most of his Stans started listening to rap in the 2010s
They also assume that non-Kendruck listeners are not intelligent enough to grasp his lyrics. He is not the first rapper to drop socially conscious lyrics. There are rappers like Greydon Square, Canibus, Ras Kass and KRS-ONE who've dropped more intellectual shit than Kendrick.
Another illogical and incorrect assumption that they often make is that you listen to wack mumble rappers like Lil Yachty.

For me its the opposite, i love digging into underground rappers discogs cuz they're (to me at least) way less predictable and more interesting. But i get bored af with the mainstream ones (bar some exceptions). The good ones are like "hidden gems" to me.

As a huge Kendrick fan, I respect this perspective. As an artist myself, I know everyone ain't gonna like my music, doesn't mean they're hating. It's just might not be that interesting, even if it is good music. As a music reviewer, I don't like every song by my favorite/ newly discovered artists and that's ok.

I'm not super interested in Kendrick either, but I listened to To Pimp A Butterfly, and I was blown away. Like, it was an incredibly jazzy, cool, and unique rap album that pretty much showed why people loved Kendrick so much. Also, I'm so sorry you had to deal with those fans. It's a common disease in the music community, where any time you express an opinion that is even SLIGHTLY unpopular, like not even a hot take, just something that slightly goes against popular opinion, people will be on your case, thinking you're a troll or an idiot. The elephant in the room is he and a large part of his fanbase are angry racists... when a large part of your art is about racial resentment, anger, and grudges, its not really surprising that they are like this. The kinds of themes he talks about in that context are interesting and important to discuss... but to only hone in on anger and vengeance as your focus of those large complex themes is a big red flag on where your heart is at.

People interpret not listening to an artist as a personal issue because they attach themselves to the artist.
The disconnect is that people like us don't. We love the music and the meanings behind it but we're not invested in the people behind it like them.
Old heads get a pass because they're mostly trying to put you on to music that started and influenced the genre. It's good to be knowledgeable about what came before but everything should be preached in moderation.

snoop dogg is one of those artists that I enjoy some track but I never listen to his album entirely. I understand his an OG but I can live without his music.
Man, I’ve always been a fan of both. I’ve been hesitant to commenting cause I don’t feel like the Kendrick Stan’s blowing my notifications up. Some of these disses Dot dropped have not been it. Quantity does not equate to quality. But of course you have people gassing this shit beyond belief. It’s ridiculous. But I’m sure I’m finna be called a glazer, low iq, and anything else that doesn’t align with me not liking everything Kendrick puts out. I’m not finna argue with any hardcore Dot fans either.
He's a mainstream artist that has a good marketing team that make people FEEL that he is an undiscovered, underground, backpack rapper. Because of this, lots of people can feel sophisticated about hip hop by jumping on the KL bandwagon and feel good about themselves. It's the same way people feel so excited to know about the local undiscovered coffee shop or bar. They feel like they are part of a secret club. But in reality, everyone in that local area knows about that "secret shop".
The elephant in the room these people will never admit is that if an artist does more than $100m on a tour, he's mainstream. It doesn't matter what he raps about, it doesn't matter his style, it doesn't matter the beats on his album. If you are a top grossing artist, you're mainstream by default because a niche underground artist cannot earn that much money.
Never denied his mainstream but he is on of the only few mainstream artists that still take risks with their art and still challenges themselves and to me that's the most attractive thing about k dot

I agree Kendrick’s fan base is the worst. Is like they are in a cult. Anytime he has any sort of critique they use are all in defense mode using all the narratives you stated. My thing is the majority of people who listen to Kendrick and is a fan really listen to him because he has the same machine pushing him that pushed Eminem. Meaning Interscope and Aftermath. I always say about Kendrick Lamar. If he did not have the right machine backing him, he would be another Rass Kass, Talib Kweli, Dead Prez type rapper. I think the thing that annoys me the most, I would Kendrick people they act like they listen to some alternative, independent artist, and they are some enlightened intellectual because they listen to Kendrick Lamar. When in reality, Kendrick has a corporate machine that pushes his music to the top of the charts and markets him well. Plus his fanbase has more of a pop audience than it is a rap audience. Believe me if you took away the Interscope Machine I doubt the mainstream audience would even know who Kendrick Lamar is.

If anyone is a fan of something and they are normal they usually want people to have the same enjoyment. Or they don’t want you to miss out. Whether that’s music, movies, food, tv or anything else we consume as people

I find it hard to take Eminem seriously enough after some of his recent music and antics (like the minions rock and rock hall of fame tweet or all that nft shit) that it affects my will to listen to MMLP for the first time.
Dunno if I'll EVER listen to that shit at this point, because I'm already so far removed from really liking that type of rap music compared to when I was in early high school.
Another artist I know is good that I don't wanna really check out rn is Joey Bada$$. I've heard his 2000 album for like 50% and stopped my listen after I was just getting too distracted to comphrend what I was listening to. Still got a couple songs out of that project that I enjoyed a lot, but despite that I don't know whether or not I'm gonna listen to his older shit any time soon.

You the conscious guy that drops once every 3 years . And his old music I never really find myself listening to… he really doesn’t meld well in a Music library format ..
