  • From Free Willy and The Iron Giant to Batman and The Animaniacs, Warner Bros. Family Entertainment shaped much of 90s pop culture, leaving a huge impact on kids everywhere. For those of us who grew up back then, seeing Bugs Bunny himself posed against the Warner Bros. shield was always a special moment. We saw that logo a heck of a lot, whether in the movie theater or plopped in front of our own TVs. But what’s the story behind the WB Family Entertainment brand? In this episode of Into The Logo-Verse, I recount the turbulent history of WB’s attempt to woo family audiences away from the almighty Mouse House, resulting in some true classics and many duds. Put your Pogs down and fire up the VCR because we’re putting the spotlight on Warner Bros. Family Entertainment and that unforgettable logo.
    "Into the Logo-Verse" is a series of mini documentaries exploring the history behind the most iconic movie logos of all time. Discover the fascinating stories and little-known facts that provide a whole new perspective on these often overlooked gems.

    That WB intro is just as iconic to me as the 90s Disney intro. I miss the days when Bugs Bunny was truly WB's mascot.

    I always remember that iconic WB logo with Bugs Bunny from my childhood because I was born in the 90's and this logo really set the bar for Warner Bros's family friendly movies.

    To me this is the most iconic and nostalgic logo featuring a well beloved and very iconic cartoon character in this case bugs bunny that alone makes this logo truly nostalgic and memorable

    A little note: Free Willi also had Michael Jackson doing the Iconic soundtrack. That helped alot.

      Definitely. Those were still the days when a movie’s soundtrack was so important to its marketing.

    One thing to note is that MASK OF THE PHANTASM wasn´t planned to be released theatrically. It was going to be straight to VHS. But, at the last minute, they told the producers that they wanted it theatrically so they had to change the video format (full screen to panoramic). That´s why there wasn´t any advertising it. As such, the movie underperformed.
    I seem to recall that Mark Hamill himself (voice of Joker) told a story that he went to watch it on theaters and the place was almost empty.
    ...I don´t recall this part correctly but I think that one of the atendees recognized him, and since the theater was so empty, Hamill asked him to sit next to him (or him and his wife).

    Warner Bros. Family Entertainment was a great division of Warner Bros. The logos used by movies and television shows made by Warner Bros.

    Thumbelina now opens with a 20th Century Fox logo, not a Disney one. But what happened?
    Did the now Disney owned 20th Century Studios buy Don Bluth's company?

    • @michaelcahillpresents
      @michaelcahillpresents  Před 7 měsíci

      Oddly enough, 20th Century Fox licensed the home media rights for Thumbelina back in 2002, which also explains why its available on Disney+ -- Thumbelina has a real patchwork of studios behind it, starting as an MGM production, then moving to Warner Brothers, then ending up at Fox and, by default, Disney.

      There are plenty of movie that inadvertently,
      "switched studios" Among them, Casino Royale, the 1967 movie [which bears little relation to the 2006 film ] originally Columbia, but now owned by MGM,
      Willy Wonka & The Chocolate Factory- originally put out by Paramount, but moved to Warner Bros, when parent co. Warner Communications the bought David Wolper's production company.
      And Mr. Mom- originally 20th Century fox, but now begins with MGM logo.
      I am sure that YOU can name some yourself@@michaelcahillpresents

    Does anyone remember when other major studios also did Family Collections (only on VHS tho it wasn't theatrical).
    Also does anyone find it weird that some films aimed at family audiences (like InnerSpace, Curly Sue, Jack Frost, the 1999 releases of Gremlins and The Witches, etc.) weren't released under the label (at least in the US)?
    Edit: ALSO ANIMATION IS A MEDIUM, NOT A GENRE!!!

    • @michaelcahillpresents
      @michaelcahillpresents  Před rokem +3

      Funny you mention family films released under different labels outside the US. For whatever reason, the WB family logo was still being used in Germany up till 2009, well after they stopped using it in North America.
