This is about a boy who stands over his dead mother, who died of an overdose. He begs her to stand up. He doesn't understand that she's dead. The lyrics are pretty clear. The video itself is a drug trip.

i think they represent the good and the bad side of the mother (peter represents the child). the grug trip starts when the snow falls from the sky and the horses come in^^

OOOPH!.. So, those 'trip elements' were actually displayed in this video, and you saw them too? Thank god! Got me worried for a second

So - As I read the comments, I was like....what??? a Drugged up mom?? how did they get to that conclusion??? and then I re watched the video - and when I am wrong I AM WRONG - and never tip toe around looking for excuses - but in my defense lmao - I COMPLETELY MISSED THIS VERSE and this VERSE alone would have EASILY made me realize what it was truly about - but the funny thing is - if you replace drugged up mom with LIFE - my idea would have worked lol.... anyway this is the verse I some how completely missed and a GIANT light bulb would have went off had I payed attention lol
Why do I always have to wait?
    Why always crying?
    Why all the black holes
In the arms, in the legs?
Mum, stand up, live up again
SMH - lol that alone is all I would have had to read.....oh well - ON TO THE NEXT ONE!!! lol

Don't worry Mr D. , Sir! We forgive you. I also didnt notice those lines... even tho it wasn't due to a lack of attention... but because I don't know how to read :/

My favourite Lindemann song! Such joyous music but such dark lyrics. Till said it was inspired by the overdose death of Peaches Geldof. Her small child was found with her body, not understanding why she wouldn't get up.

  • @tosa2522
    @tosa2522 Před 7 měsíci +23

Till came up with the lyrics when he heard about the drug-related death of Bob Geldof's daughter Peaches.
Till: "It was actually the drug death of Peaches Geldof that inspired me to write this song. What was not mentioned in the police files: Her child probably waited for hours next to her dead mother for her to finally wake up. The song describes this waiting. This trauma is unimaginable. It's terrible."
PS: Of course Till did the stunt himself, being pulled on a rope behind a horse.

Behind many Rammstein and Lindemann videos is the video creator Zoran Bihac "Zoki", who also came up with the ideas. Unfortunately, very few people know this and he doesn't get enough attention for it.

I love this song so much - yet it always puts any icy grip over my heart due to the sadness and tragedy of the story line. The begging, helpless voice of the child kills me every time.
The behind the scene video is great - the horse stunt is just amazing.

Love this video! Zoran Bihac mentioned in the Making Of to the very first video he did for Rammstein (the one with the ants), that maybe some day he could do one with Mongolian riders - well, he delivered. My favourite Lindemann song.

D, first thing's first, happy 2024! I hope it's a good year and what better way to start off then with our favourite maniac Till? I don't know what specifically you wish for, so I'm just gonna wish you health and joy and pleasure❤.
Okay, onto the song: I think the first thing in the video, and the thing that I saw ticked you off aswell was the "fever-dream" like scene: bright colors, sound slowing down, Peter (the drummer) looking paranoid and like he's out of place. And the scene quickly switches to something else, still chaotic and Peter's still like an outside observer through the whole video. That could indicate, that at least visually, this is emulating a drug trip. And it feels like that aswell! And lyrically, it's quite depressing, even though the title would suggest otherwise. First, Till sings about a beautiful day, and things happening, "Let's go to the circus, show me all the animals, let's go get ice-cream!" His naive-like character would suggest this is a child speaking. But what really gives it away is: "Why do you keep laying in your bed, eyes open, cheeks pale?" The subject he's talking to is most likely, already dead, and he's waiting for HER to get up. "Why do I always have to wait (for you), why do I always have to cry?" And the cherry on top is: "Why do you have black holes in your arms and in your legs?" This could indicate two things: Either the mother has some sort of plague/illness/gangrene or, what's more likey, puncture marks from the needles. And then the child-like voice saying: "Mama, get up, get up again!" And in the end of the video, Till doesn't get up.....
And how did he manage to get dragged by horses, in an open field without breaking a few bones?! What is this man made of?!? Till, how do you do it?!🙄
Anyhow, I'm sorry if that made you depressed, I could be wrong, I could just be a pessimist, but only Till knows😂😂. Thank you, again, so much for the video, and again, happy new year❤

The third in the video is the actor Peter Stormare (Armageddon and John Wick2). You would also enjoy the documentary Rammstein in America, even though it is largely in German.🤘 love your reactions

Nice shirt, D!😎Knew you'd like this song (and the video?) too. Great reaction again.👍However I think the song is about a child of a drug addict. Losing the mom and not being able to make beautiful memories with her. The making-of to this video is also very interesting and would clear some things up.😉

Great music video and cinematography! Yes, we should get up and fulfill our dreams, not doing so and we will live our life like we are already dead - drowned - killed by Gengis Khan's warriors and whatnot.

As others have stated, Steh Auf was inspired by the tragic drug related death of Peaches Geldof. What made it even more tragic was that her death was a bear carbon copy of the death of her mother, Paula Yates. Both had died of heroin overdoses after being in methadone to help kick their addiction and both died with one of their children present in the home. Sad.

I've never understood this video. Who is the guy who looks like Nicholas Cage? Is he really there? Are the Mongols part of the hallucination? Is the reality them in the mental hospital? It's really artistic, as is Till's genius, but very strange.
