Sport frei is a sportsman's greeting from the workers' sports movement. It is currently used mainly in East Germany.
After 1945, the greeting was reintroduced in the German Democratic Republic (GDR). This greeting (coach: "We greet each other with a sport ..." athlete: "... free!") was also used in the GDR to start school sports lessons and all forms of (team) training, as well as competitions in various sports.
"Sport frei" is not a fighting term of the neo-Nazi scene, but is generally used in a non-political way. Nevertheless, a right-wing fashion label, for example, is trying to hijack the term for the hooligan scene.
The song is a homage to Till Lindemann's earlier days, he was a competitive swimmer and was also nominated for the German Olympic team

The song "Tanzlehrerin" can't be taken seriously and only Till can come up with such lyrics, a typical Lindemann song, you can only grin and laugh out loud.

This is the first time I see a reaction video to this song by an actual athlete. It is very interesting how much the reaction differs between people with athletic background and ones without. The first two verses are very much kept neutral and open to debate. Whether it is admiration or resentment is up to you. But the third one is very personal I believe. Till was part of the GDR sports program for professional swimming. Back then this program was physically and mentally brutal. They would pump steroids into young athletes and tell them it was vitamins. Till got unusual heart murmurs because of that. That is why he sings: "The heart has not recovered".

Till solo album is really good. I know this song is about his experience as an East German swimming, training for the Olympics but he really didn’t want to be. and how people who do that go through a lot.
I really like Übers Meer in particular on his album.

the best reaction, telling as someone who participated in competitive sport but quit when i felt that im spending too much time into something giving me no profit whatsoever. Earned silver medal in world championship in Moscow (cuz i was heavier buy half a kg from 1st place). So yeah, competitive sport is not for everyone

There is the line "foreign hormones in the testicles", which refers to the illegal homon treatments of talented athletes (often without their knowledge or consent) in East Germany, but also in Russia and China.

I grew up in the GDR too and find it despicable how children's lives were treated there and how they were given hormones and performance-enhancing substances without their knowledge.
If you defend this, then you have not understood the message of the song.

Funfact: Till was a professional swimmer himself.
Till was forced into swimming by his parents and at the time, especially in the East, it was a great honour to your family and country to be an accomplished sportsman and Olympian. Unfortunately, the training was very brutal and it left Till emotionally and physically scarred. Amongst other things, he completely tore his abdominal muscles.

Random thoughts and Im just comng ot of a hypo so excpect typo's etc!
Till was being trained (?groomed) to be for olypic swimmer as youth in formerly known as east germany under soviet rule before reunification. He was swimming i believe at competition level and even went to somewhere possibly in russia I can't think clearly, he got it trouble for sneakig out post curfew to buy porn magazine. unfortunately (or manybe fortunate deepdedning on your per spective) he injured badly his knee and not able to compete at thhat leevel from then.
(The infamous Till Hammer he does onstage in R+ started because his knee dislocated during a performance and he was trying to force his knee back into place with the movement or i guess a similar movement, from the old knee injury)
Therefroe i think this song very VERY personal to Till IMO. He did train, he did go with, or without, he would hav been counting the tiles of the pool, no time for self, it is for the 'greater good', up early, push push push, nd yeah f8ck knows what hormonse or other chemical concoctions he was given probably without his (informed) consent or maybe against wishes, while the years run away from him, pushing and being pushed to breaking point. And breaking through injury (and for violating curfew etc too).
Things that still affect his life today
The location of video, the olympic scenes, torch etc I believe filmed at Berlin Olympiastadion.
(Forgive me if incorrect but i believe some refer to it as "hitlers stadium" and supposedly the way through to dressing rooms etc curved to make assassination atttempts harder).
I think those scenes when he is on the podium is maybe like, almost a fuck you, like 'I am stood here in the olympic stadium on the winners podium and what does it even mean?'
