- This is one of the easiest Mods requiring a Dremel Tool. And for a certain set of people, it will be a major upgrade.

Cool vid. In my opinion, replacement cutters aren't a great thing. In the past, if you broke the cutters somehow and sent them in for warranty you'd be getting a brand new Leatherman back because they couldn't replace the cutters alone. So now we have a weaker plier head, and Leatherman saves on warranty. Smart on their part. I don't really see the advantage here for customers. I'm sure Leatherman made this change to mitigate warranty costs for damaged cutters. But as long as they are replaceable, this video is cool showing you can put in better cutters if you want.
Thanks for the detailed comparison between the cutters. Ben at TxTool Crib has pointed out in his video, posted at Jan. 24. this year, that recent release of EOD cutters have rounded corners that fit into the recess of regular Wave, Rebar and Surge without the need for modification. But you might have stashed some earlier release of EOD cutters,
Great mod presentation, will upgrade mine now. Cheers mate. Greetings from Australia.
🙌
ok you and Ben twisted my arm... gotta upgrade the surge..... 🙂
Can’t wait to watch.
Great mod, just ordered some EOD cutter blades going to do this to my Wave+.👍
Thanks for sharing!!!✌️
I did it for 2 Surges, the newer one came with those crappy cutters like the Arc. The older Black&Silver cutters were and are very good, i cut alot of 2.5mm screws (ftom some pedals) and also 3mm strand cable (from the crane i operate, every few years they replace all the cables).
I'm going to add these to one of my edc Charges for sure. Thanks for the video!
Love this mod, Leatherman should just add a hard wire notch to the eod cutters and they’d be perfect.
Maybe that's a worthwhile mod actually 🤔🤔🤔
Intéressant, merci pour le partage ! :)
I didn't know those existed and have always thought the "upgraded" new cutters were inferior to the old non replaceable ones at a result.
Great vid!
Just did this on my free p4... EOD cutters are hands down better than the standard cutters. I actually used the leatherman diamond file to smooth out the corners to get them to fit.
Great video. I bought the eod and just need a bit of time for the mod. Thinking to do them in my wave +. Already s30v blade and serrated hook 😁
I had seen Ben’s video so obviously I’ve seen this mod before but it’s a great one nonetheless. Can’t wait to see what you think up next.
To be fair, very few of these ideas are my own..but I wanted to put them together in a series that makes sense and has good continuity
Thanks for the video! Im going to do it on mine, but im going to shorten the bladeto keep the pilers open.
At one point the Wave style cutters were 154cm. I think they were prone to breaking instead of deforming when cutting hard material so Leatherman switched out to 420HC. I think the only difference was the 154cm was more shiny and the 420hc is more grey. The 420hc cutters have a more fine cutting edge vs the larger chamfer on the 154cm cutter edge.
I believe the EOD cutters have always been 420hc.
For this reason, I prefer the newer 420hc grey colored Wave style cutters so I retain the hard wire notch and have a more fine cutting edge as a trade off between the options.
😅i almost had died laughing when you said it increases the ergonomics "maybe 20%"
The statement makes no sense 😆
@@maxlvledc but I get it trying to quantify things like that is not easy
I fitted these to the the plier head in my Charge without modification, i assumed that the mod detailed in the vid would be required but a trial fit showed that it was unnecessary. I wanted the EOD cutters for there superior electrical wire cutting performance, the Charge is a tti fitted with an early wave/charge+ plier head. Anyone else found this?
The newer cutters available on LM website seem to be made uniform now!
Do the tips of the plier come together like they would originally? Cool mod
Yep, no issues
Loving the videos. I just watched a video that popped up on CZcams from ZapWizard. I had never heard of him before but he makes some really cool 3D printed accessories for Leathermans. Would love to see if you could review his stuff. Thoughts?
I already have 4 of his addons in the wings lol, been following him for a long time. He first came on a few years ago on multitool.org
Leatherman signal blade change for the wave blade would be cool or adding a hammer like on the signal to the P4
Adding a hammer to the P2 is never going to make much sense. It was never designed for heavy use.
Anyone know if the same can be done with a gerber centredrive?
Are there any advantages of the standard replaceable cutters? Or is the EOD version better in every direction?
Definitely not better in every way, only when cutting soft wire..or cabling.
Are the plier heads on the wave plus noticeably weaker than the wave without replaceable cutters? A test would be much appreciated as no one on CZcams has done one and a ton of people like me want to see the difference. Thanks.
It would require a lot of equipment I don't have sadly.
I was thinking a simple test where you grab a nail with one plier at each end and twist to see how much it distorts.
I did this to my surge, but the cutters somehow don't sit really flat. This resulted in some chipping in the back part of the cutter, where the cutting edges hit each other... but: despite this, the actual cut is still cleaner than with the original cutter. It's weird 😅
That is wierd..mine line up well
@@maxlvledc not exactly sure what caused it, I thought maybe I got a little dirt understand them or something. Removed, checked, put back on, same problem. You feel when the hit each other (the chipping appeared later).
But I kept as is, as I said the cut in copper wire or other soft stuff is still very clean, and my surge is a workhorse, it looks pretty beat-up anyways 😜
Hi there mate wil they work on the leatherman OHT please?
And if they do where do I get them from please?
100% yes
