The LWB makes a huge diffo IMO . I have had 5 VW campers over the years , and this is the first with a full toilet and shower in the back . Although the shower isnt used TBH , having a private onboard loo and WHB is absolutely game changing , esp for females .
What's WHB?
@@benohanlonWash-hand basin
Yes I was thinking that . Make more sense than bigger kitchen space
I like the long wheelbase for space but the short wheel base for equipment and finish
Looking at buying a transporter and can't decided what to get. Brilliant video thanks for helping me out!
I prefer the SWB and I also prefer the 2020 look.
Only thing I would say is the black vw rock roll bed the wheels on front start to mark the floor, red one is the better bed wouldn't say no to either but take the good bits from each van to your preferred options and what a van you'd have 👍
We've gone for long and love it. With double front seats swivelled gives so much space. Don't use it as a daily so parking in multistorey cp etc not an issue. I'd be happy with either but lwb works for us.
Thanks for sharing! Mike 👍
I suppose it depends how much room you have on your drive? I prefer the long wheelbase as obviously more space is best and I prefer the red as with black you will need to constantly be washing it! The interior on the long wheel Base is very nice too.
Having been a Vanagon owner, I have to say the shorter van is easier to live with off the road. Day to day, as a grocery getter the Vanagon is easy to get along with. Better mileage, easy to park, rear deck for trapping groceries in place and still room for four.
The longer means the more you can pack in there. Bicycles don’t have to ride outside, more room for everything.
I have owned a class B Winnebago View and loved it. It had room, 24 feet of it. It was just a lot to deal with.
Vans will never have those things Class B folks value: toilets and showers. Also, bigger fridge, rear view cameras.
Different audience, especially in my case(2 me).
Thanks for sharing! Kim 👍
I have a SWB, although the LWB is not that much bigger the extra room is deceiving and does really help. I went SWB as it was my main vehicle but I would definitely go LWB if I could.
Long wheel base all day long 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻 but both are nice looking
Agreed!👍
Great video. I've Never had a camper, but it's my next thing on my list to do. After watching this, I'm preferring the long wheelbase, but both of these look really nice.
👍
Don't bother. We sold ours. Was a 2016 and had nothing but problems (typical issues with VW brand). It cost a fortune in fuel, tyres, maintenance. It was unreliable VW junk. It just didn't make sense anymore so we traded it for a hybrid and got a roof tent. So much better, cheaper, more reliable. Two best days of ownership - buying it and selling it.
SWB for me. Couldn't afford a VW though, have an Alphard with similar conversion and love it.
From these 2 I would go for the LWB but I prefer the Ford Nugget to the VW as I think the layout is better also you get hot water and even a cassette loo on the Nugget Plus, but for the money these costs I would actually prefer to buy a coach-built van,
Ah great video, an idea that came across my mind but couldn’t get hands on a LWB!! Great video, hopefully helps a few people out with their choice.
Glad you enjoyed it!
We have a short wheel base great for parking.
. long wheel base overhangs in carpark bays. You will be getting parking fines also. Our table is stored behind drivers seat.
Where does the Camper
van man give demonstrations from
Give me the short wheelbase anytime. In my opinion it’s a lot nicer van all round.
The 2020 for me. But great explanation of both and should make up the mind of interested parties
Both impressive. Great video 👍
Love them both! 💛
Love the LWB that extra bit of room and storage is just the best. Parking it in a carpark could be a challenge tho... Need the bigger one due to being rather tall...
👍
Looked like the lwb would struggle to fit 2 people for dining at that table? As the fwd seats did not move in like the swb did.
I don’t have a VW, I have a Citroen Dispatch LWB, pretty much the same layout as the standard VW type. The extra space when the bed is down is what steals the show for me. Room for the portapotti to left out and usable during the night.
Great video, LWB offers some great extra space if needed!
Very true! 👍
Very nice campers all the ones you have shown long wheel base for me
I would probably go for the long wheelbase vehicle, as more can be fitted in the vehicle
👍
You reckon?
Long wheel, love the grey and white, and the big vw on the outside.
👍
They both beautiful vehicles inside and out the only draw back for me is a shower and tv its horses for courses some people will love them i cant seperate them🌞👍
Black transporter is a highline model spec 150 bhp with the new trim that came in , in 2020. Red transporter looks like a trend line 102 bhp. Big difference between the two vans
very good your videos. I'm building a camper and the information is very important.
Great to hear! Mundo 😃
2019 long wheel - 100% - colour wise, size and style
👍
That red van is bloody lovely
👍
Nice Van's, so many people who have built their own van or day van are going to have problems soon as so many areas are going to have clean air zones , Birmingham, Bath , London , Plymouth, Greater Manchester, all will be live in the next 18 months tops , some are live now , and from what I've read it seems if the van is not a type approved motorhome or camper on the V5 , and if it's not fitted with a euro 6 engine , it's going to cost the driver at least 8 quid a day , charged 24 hours a day 7 days a week ,to drive in any of these areas , type approved motorhomes look like they are exempt from the charges upto now , plenty of discussion to be had with local councils on that one 👍
I have a T5 and live in the Greater Manchester area.
Looking at £10.00 a day just to get to work on top of everything else.
Looks like the scheme is being delayed for now 👍👍
I moved to Australia 4 years ago and this is the first I'm hearing about the clean air stuff... insane!
So unless you have a brand new low emission car you have to pay $8 a day!? That's madness, surely that will price everyone off the road?
lovely cab in the 70 plate
👍
The black one is more practical inside as can sit more people at the table. Also easier to maneuver for parking
👍 Josh
love the styling on these lol, sick rims
👍
Have had both LWB every time
Do you ever get any LHD campers?
Love both!!!! You can’t do me an absolute belting deal on one can you fellas?!! 😀
😃
If you have 2 dogs, means 2 dog baskets - Got to be the LWB for the floor space!
👍
I would choose the black with a good diesel engine.and towing capability
I love em both but the spec on the swb is awesome but love the xtra space of the lwb.. Personally I would love a lwb but with a swb kitchen n bed n then ave the xtra space in back 4 storage n 4 a shower.
👍
Awesome cool
Love all VWs but short wheelbase is for me better parking too
👍
Like the longer one
👍
I prefer short wheelbase. I also prefer sliding seat systems where the whole seat can slide forwards and backwards.
The funny thing you never buy these Campers in Germany from VW. LWB was never available as camper. Very nice
Thanks 😃
Saw you at the NEC. You commented for the price of these vans you can get the roller teams. It's a no brainer.
👍
I would love to own the Red VW
T6.1 always 😍😍😍
I would prefer the LWB but parking would be more a issue for me and I think SWB vans drive better to.Both them vans are spot on I wouldn't mind ever of them vans.
👍
Definitely the lwb, just prefer the lwb
Thanks for voting 👍
LWB....plus the red matches my WV Beetle
SWB for trips to the supermarket and seaside when you're out and about much easier to find a parking space.
👍
I prefer the lwb for the space. Its interior is a better colour. Only advantage on swb is the new cab layout & swivel chair
👍
SWB for me as I need a smaller vehicle. Who has done the conversion? I love the interior.
👍
Yes would also like to.know who did the conversion..!
Long Wheel Base 😍💖
😀
LWB the internal space wins. Plus that's the longest van that fits on my drive.
👍
Both are nice but yeah, you know me, I like the bigger vans. LWB wins for me 😊
Fair enough!👍
I do prefer the long wheel base van myself
In summary of this video:
I have 2 vans for sale so they are both great.
LWB has more room than SWB...
2020 cabin is much nicer than 2019.
Oh and "Kev, after searching thee sexy sexy vans, I couldn't find Luke anywhere!"
😀
Always the longwheel one .
Intéressant
How do you sit either side of the table om the LWB version?
You swivel the front seats Glady's 😀
@@TheMotorhomeMan What and eat off a tray? 😆
@@TheMotorhomeMan still looks to far away to eat normally🤔
LWB with the sliding rail on the captains car (mod)
Why don’t VW produce the California ocean on a Lwb chassis? Seems odd to me. I prefer the look of the SWB defo but the practicality of the lwb as a camper wins but then if room was an issue why would you even look at a vw transporter??? Could get a motor home or even the crafter
don't the black and other dark colours get mighty warm in the summer?
🤔
@@TheMotorhomeMan With the rapidly changing climate in most areas I would avoid black.
100% the LWB is nicer and more practical but I do prefer the interior of the black one
👍
The SWB spec on the LWB van. We would need the extra space with two dogs.
👍 Tony
God I want one of these. Lwb even
Only one left Pete
Looks like their worth buying because they keep their prices better than cars.
Too true Mark 👍
What weight can those roof beds take ??
Not sure sorry 😐
LWB, we have one on a 2017 plate 😎
👍
What about feul economy and insurance?
Fuel economy will depend on the way you drive but I'd say 35 mpg is an average you could expect. Insurance depends very much on the driver so can't answer that one unfortunately as it will be so different for everyone. 👍
0:12 what is brand that carrier ?
caravansandcampersltd.co.uk
A bit of a confused vid guys! On the one hand you're comparing the looks of the base vans and the choice of conversion/styling options, and on the other hand you're comparing the inherent practicality of SWB vs LWB.
LWB wins hands-down for camper practicality.
SWB looks better for base van looks and for conversion/styling options.
Noted! Bav and agree about the swb 😃
A road test to find out the drivability of LWB and SWB on country roads and sharp turns would be useful
Not a bad idea 👍
I wish I could afford that short wheel base VW. i would use it as my car as well as a camper but I can't run to £50,000 plus.
👍
Bit of a nonsense comparison really as you were comparing which interior etc you preferred rather concentrating on the subject matter, which is which is best, short or long wheel base? Both vans with identical interiors and you could have a proper argument. I know some people prefer a short wheel base to long and vice versa. I have a 2007 T5 LWB with two captains chairs and a rock n roll bed, that’s it. No cooker or storage etc (apart from under the bed) but that’s what I wanted. With the bed down there’s about 5 foot of space between the bed and the front seats, it’s great. I’d have a LWB all day long, they look better too, apart from the LWB T4, short wheel base looks better on them. Both nice vans though, but the LWB in black would’ve been a killer!
Why do you need swivel wheels on the lower bed, if the bed only goes front and back ?!? Just WHY ?!?
The black one, around 08 minute's time.
Short wheelbase
the replaced the vw t5 camper vans
SWB is so much easier to drive. Interior space of the LWB speaks for itself.
Great points👍
👍
Also.. I just had to Google where you’re based as you sound like a local Stokie to me. ☺️
Hard to choose
🤔 Wan
@@TheMotorhomeMan 😅
if i was to get a camper van it would have to be on the lwb as i feel like there is a bit more room in a lwb compared to a swb
VW t6 have 4WD ?
The 4motion ones do yes👍
The black short one looks smarter.
👍
Space wins it for me. Prefer the looks of the swb.
Red
good choice 👍
I don't like vws don't have much room, no shower and loo, it's to small and compact both, I think if I had to choose it would be the red 2019
Love the VW vans as they are great to drive, however without shower and loo on board they are only really good for the warmer months and no good for off grid.
long wheelbase for me so much extra space
👍 I can not decide
Longer is always better 😜
👍
It’s just me so short wheel base just for better parking
Lwb is better no bigger foot print than a Volvo v70 estate and bigger inside (400)mm never saw point of swb unless for work but after 5 mins your video didn’t tell me any of this
Just comparing 2 different vans
V70 is similiar length as swb. Lwb is 400mm longer than v70
This is what is the difference between a black 2020 and a red 2019 more than lwb vs swb.
👍
Lwb not so hot for multistorey car parks and standard modern parking spaces
👍
The wheels look nice as hell but why use low profile tires on a vehicle that is designed for comfort?
👍
Nuts, looks horrible as well.
long wheel base every time.... on a campervan conversion space is king
Who is Luke?
I don't know why, but I found it really annoying that he was referring to them as 2019 and 2020. It's simply a T6 and a T6.1.
Also, they are comparing features like pop tops and cupboards that are conversion specific.
👍
