  • Before we have JC Wings, Gemini, and Inflight, do you still remember we had Japan’s Hasegawa?
Back in the 1980s and 90s, Hasegawa gave us the best 1/200 scale airliner model kits in the market. It had pioneered and shaped the 1/200 scale model world. It is definitely not exaggerated to say that Hasegawa is the founder of our 1/200 world. Today, if we take a look at its old products. I’m sure you’ll be amazed by its remarkable quality 40 years ago. Their moulds are exceptionally good and detailed.
I was a public school kid back in the 80s. My first Hasegawa was a UA 747-200. My second was a Cathay Tristar. All these years, I’ve bought 4 boxes of this Cathay Tristar. The first box was poorly made as I was only 12. I’ve kept the fourth one untouched and kept it as a collectible item. I still remember the happiest moments of making a Hasegawa model: It’s putting the cockpit windows and applying the livery decals.
Do you still have your Hasegawa models at home? Which ones are your favourite? Leave a comment to let us know!

When I was a teenager in the 90s, I had close to 100 Hasegawa Airliners!

so far, I have 2 completed Hasegawa 747-200 model kits. One of which is painted in the Airport 1975, Columbia Airlines livery and the other is painted in the Northwest Airlines final livery that was in service from 2003-2009. Will post a short clip of them soon! Also, I have 2 near completed Hasegawa 747-400s. Both are in Northwest Airlines livery in the "bowling shoe" livery and final livery. Due to the poor design of the Hasegawa 747-400 engines, both my completed 747-400 are lacking engines. I'm looking HARD for a 1:200 scale PW4056 engines that can replace the stock Hasegawa GE CF6-80C2 engines that doubles as PW4056 engines, which they did a poor job of such! I'm currently, as of this very moment as I'm typing this comment, am constructing a Hasegawa 747-400 to represent the Cathay Pacific, "green stripe" livery that was in service from 1989 to about 1998 or so. Unlike my Northwest Airlines 747-400s, this one has the RB211 engines to go with it, thus creating an authentic representation!!

Back then, I was so disappointed that Hasegawa 747-400s don’t come with RR engines. Its QF model comes with PW!
