      Oh my 50 yrs ago! I’m 24 and I grew up there until I was 11! There were so much developments in the last decade . The last time I went was in 2017 and so many of the buildings didn’t even exist back then. Crazy how my memory of Iloilo in my childhood is so so different. It’s mind blowing! I remember the empty old airport as a kid and now it’s the festive walk. They did really well with the development. I’m so proud.

      ILOILO CITY is now the "IT" place of the BPO/IT/Call Center industry. Several months ago, the respected property consultants/developers in Metro Manila, Colliers and Leechiu Property Consultants /developers issued separate press releases stating that call center/office spaces in Iloilo are selling like hotcake because almost all of the bpo/IT/Call Center companies in Metro Manila now prefer to set up shop in Iloilo than in other cities. Iloilo City has livable amenities that make it attractive to young people, young families, professionals, retirees, and expatriates who are used to the conveniences of western living. Iloilo has all these. There are well-stocked airconditioned supermarkets and grocery stores in every major neighborhood. Another advantage Iloilo has are its plentiful well-maintained parks, Spanish plazas, squares with monuments, public flower gardens, extensive riverside Esplanades with gardens and walking paths and trees, hiking paths, biking lanes, wide and landscaped avenues and sidewalks. All these are enticing qualities in Iloilo City and suburbs that are desired by Filipinos. It's nice to be living in Iloilo.

    • @denniszenanywhere
      @denniszenanywhere Před rokem +1

      @@armandosune3839 I feel like it's a cross between San Francisco and San Diego, as it's a coastal city with hiking paths, biking lanes, etc. Visited in both. Also lived in San Jose, CA. Any listings of the BPOs there? Any good population breakdown -- pop growth of young vs old, type of jobs. I know I should just Google it but you may have more info.

    • @armandosune3839
      @armandosune3839 Před rokem +3

      maycusa I am not familiar with .most of them, but I can tell you that one of the latest BPO companies is TELUS, from Canada. ILOILO is their first branch outside Metro Manila. After only several months of having opened their first branch in ILOILO, they are opening a new site at the Robinson's Cybergate in Pavia, Metro Iloilo. Telus is just one of those that have opened their second sites in Iloilo. Almost all of the bpo/IT/call centers in Metro Manila signified rhat they want to open in ILOILO instead of the other cities because Iloilo had plenty of graduates and skilled professionals, and most important reasons for them is that Iloilo is very livable, very beautiful, had plenty of amenities that are similar to western countries where convenience of living is the key . There are well-stocked airconditioned supermarkets and grocery stores in all the major neighborhoods. There are plenty of parks, Spanish plazas, open public squares with monuments to patriots, public flower gardens, and very long and beautiful riverside Esplanades that are well-maintained, with strolling, jogging and biking paths , trees, flowerbeds, gardens and winding pathways very delightful for strolling and nature tripping. There are many museums and art galleries. Free award-winning films all week at Cinematheque theater on B&C Square bldg, Iznart corner Solis Streets. There are at present 50,000 call center/BPO/IT Center employees in Iloilo.

    I'm gobsmacked that you were actually able to get an interview with the Mayor of Iloilo City! It was fantastic to hear his comments about his city!! I had looked at Iloilo City in comparison to BGC City and Makati, and I note that his area is newer and hence he is forward thinking about the infrastructure. It's a very important part of the character of a City, which can often look like spaghetti wiring as new electrical connections need to be made. "The most livable urbanized city" is a spot-on description of the City.

    Wow, that's awesome you guys chose Iloilo to live in. I'm from Janiuay in Iloilo. Live in the US now. It is nicer to live in the quieter areas close to the cities and not in the actual city. Much more peaceful. You guys make me want to consider moving back there one day 🥲

    We Ilonggos are proud of our mayor, especially to what they have done to the Iloilo river, I hope soon there will be some additional tourist attractions in the river, I suggest a river boat cruise for tourist and commuter passengers from Mulle Loney to Molo vice versa.. Boats i may suggest to be beautifully lighted so it will be a beautiful sight to everyone walking along the Esplanade, additional income for the city also..

      I was recently in Con Tho, Vietnam. They have a couple of Mississippi style paddlewheel river boats that are lite up cruising on the river in front of the entertainment district of the city. Also lots of lights along the malicon and lite up buildings.

      I wish the city has an iconic bridge though, like a suspension bridge (think Golden Gate, etc), tied arch bridge, cantilever bridge etc. Most of the bridges there are just of the generic kind, with some colourful paints and all.

    • @swordfish7505
      @swordfish7505 Před rokem +1

      @@zenvirgil I hope they will build a small bridge for pedestrian and joggers that will connect Esplanade 1 & 2 along side the existing bridge in the diversion road and add some iconic design to it.. I hope the Iloilo city architects and urban planners can read our comments.

    Iloilo is the best place to reside.
    Food is cheap, and fresh.
    The progress of the place was not the responsibility of One
    person but the cooperation of everyone. In fact it was started by a previous leader and was continued by the present leader .
    Congratulations to All👏👏
    But my comment…you haven’t explored the slums. There is more to see.
    😅
    Manila and Cebu is for a 2-3 day stay for shopping and short vacation .

      We have only 2 seasons, wet and dry. 2 private medical schools and 1 government funded. 2 government hospitals plus one on the way, 4 private in the city and 2 just in the outskirts of the city. The city is full of doctors and lawyers.

    • @jchavez1431
      @jchavez1431 Před rokem +5

      We have dry season and wet season (it literally rains every night these days 😆). Western Visayas State University (Iloilo City) is one of the best medical schools in the Philippines with 100% physician licensure exam passing rate every year. The cost of living is less compared to other major cities in the Philippines. The next towns to Iloilo City are mostly farmlands and fishing villages, so the prices of goods are not that high.

    • @armandosune3839
      @armandosune3839 Před rokem +5

      There are 8 universities, 5 of which have celebrated 100 years of existence. There are 3 medical schools each with its own hospital facilities. These three are consistently producing high-scoring board exam passers and topnotchers. There are plenty of both high-end and tuition-fee-affordable colleges and schools. Ateneo de Iloilo , Assumption, San Agustin, Westbridge (branch of Southridge in Alabang). They're all here.

    Nice move guys, getting to meet the Mayor, first class move..
    The thing I enjoyed about the island of iloilo was you could drive or get a bus from iloilo to Boracay, plus as you say Guimeras and so many more islands we can't wait to visit..but do go on a road trip from one side to the other, rent a car and see iloilo, Oton is a nice area , Santa Barbara, and Jaro. But the further inland you go then of course it will be less expensive. Pototan is another nice area..we are 45 mins from iloilo centre, but still close enough to pop into the city..
    Happy house hunting guys,
    Regards Tim and Jn from UK 🇬🇧
