Many expect immediate riches to be made from publishing Low Content Books on Amazon KDP but it's tough and a lot tougher than many people get told and expect. What some CZcamsrs share as revenue might be OK at the surface level but how long have they been publishing? What are they spending on Amazon Ads and are they really being honest about the journey?
In this video, I share with you why I've been so close to quitting on several occasions and what advice I can give you if you are thinking that KDP isn't for you.

started with KDP in February 2022 and earned a few dollars from it. I have 500 books in different niches and types. I quit after a year, but after watching this video, I’m motivated to come back with a new strategy. Thank you for your motivation

I am 71 years old with health conditions and so on. I have been trying to follow videos that are real and sincere in doing this business model. There are only a few real ones. Just after my surgery in 2021, I had looked at this model, but got a set back due to an additional health issue. Well, here I am in 2024 trying it again. However, it just seems much more competitive and have to do a lot more work to see if there is even a possibility of starting and whether health wise I can keep up. Would probably have to farm out a lot of the work so it is professionally done though. I just thinking about this to keep mentally busy with some income opportunity. But, let’s see how it goes from here. Thanks for the video (and honesty); I subscribed.
Well done and sorry to hear about your health conditions. Yes, the marketplace is more crowded but there will always be room for quality books that are published. If it's to keep you occupied and to keep your mind busy, then why not give it a go. Even if sales are slow to begin with, the enjoyment through creating and publishing books to benefit others is so much fun!

Thanks Romney. I write and illustrate children's books (7 so far, and as my hubby is retired and I'm not working atm its been challenging to get the books to sell. I could do this fulltime if hubby was working but I can see that ads has to be the way to go.
Ads are certainly important to boost your ranking, sales, reviews and long term organic growth.
I do it b/c it is a passion, not for the money. If it generates sales thats great, if not then thats fine too. I just enjoy creating❤

Thanks for showing the truth and reality and not just clickbaity numbers and fireworks. Could I ask how much you spend now on ads? you mentioned $300 on the first month where you made $100 but how about the last slide for example where you made 5k - how much went to ads for that month? I've heard most spend about 30-50% of the income on ads but not many talk about it
For the first 90 Days, it averages approx 30-40% of total revenue. After that and once you optimize your Ads, it drops to approx 20-25% of revenue.

Great video! I’m a bit frustrated right now because Amazon terminated me and I don’t know why! I haven’t been able to contact any human. No email responses either. But I plan to keep trying every Avenue I can. Your video has encouraged me in the worthwhileness of Amazon.
I’m really sorry to hear that. I’ve known of a few people in this exact situation. Termination with no Explanation! It’s why I always encourage diversification so you are not reliant on one income stream. My books are across 4 different platforms so that provides a level of comfort should anything ever happen to KDP and I’m not reliant on it for business cashflow.

I was impressed when a CZcamsr said they were making $6000/month until I learned they have 2400 books listed. Plus they were taking half their income and spending it on advertising.
Yes, happens all the time.
@@globalselfpublishing A good point is that after a while, every dollar spent on advertising gets you less sales than the last dollar. You have to keep track.
I have a pretty good little YA book on KDP. I even have an accompanying coloring book that goes with it, featuring illustrations from the book. I have tried to pay for some marketing but nothing I do seems to work. I even bought a nifty video trailer for YT and TikTok and Instagram, but I have learned that if you just can't get the product in front of the right audience, no one knows it exists and no one buys it.
Absolutley! You are exactly right. How will you ever get a sale if the right customers don't even know your book exisits?
Thank you for sharing your thoughts. How about 2023 data for your books selling? In 2020 you got 379 books. Did you get around 1000 books now? I am really wondering about current situations in the world. Is it really worth?
Since Year 1, I have unpublished 70% of my books! The initial ones were poorly designed and didn't provide a great customer experience. For me, it's best I have a portfolio of 50 books that are high quality that I can maintain with Amazon Ads etc if required.

Chris Raydog would be one. I'm not convinced there are others now as they all appear to have more of an agenda to pushing puzzle book generators and earning affiliate commissions.

The one one that would be challenging would be using Canva on an Ipad.
I started really good followed your advice & great lessons but Amazon keep trying to stop me? I already have them stopping my bank acc saying its not viable wtheck They paid me 2months using it and it took me 4 months to get them to turn it around and unblock my ac now they have messed up one of the insides of my books. I ordered one and the middle 4 pages were a mixture of THEIR print copy details ie publisher plans wtheck I have just uploaded another so lets see...

No, do not quit your day job until you are getting a 'consistent' income stream and are diversified not just on KDP, but across other publishing platforms too.
It's been two years I am no way near your 3 months result also, but Now I am giving all my focus let's see
FOCUS is a huge factor. Try and avoid too much 'consumption' of content and place more of that time into taking action and 'DOING'!

I just started Mar 1st and have about 11 or 12 books out there with only 3 sales😢I watched numerous CZcams videos where they all talking about making 1,000.00 a month how is that even possible when you only making about 1.44 per book and they fail to mention how long it takes to get to 1,000.00
You’ve had more sales than I did in my first 3 months so that’s great! It takes time and remember, some books might be sold at $14, therefore you can make $5.00 per book. For me, it was approx month 6 and approx 50 books when I reached my first $1,000 however, someone may have 20 books but they’re all terrible books and will NEVER sell! It’s all to do with the quality, reviews and your launch strategy!

As an average per month or over specific months as it fluctuates significantly.
Right now, I'm the closest I've ever came to quiting. Locked out my my kdp account, I can't follow through with the two step verification to receive the one time password. They have the wrong phone number on file, and I need to change my bank account number. My computer is down and out and I don't have the money to get it fixed.
My first book isn't getting anywhere, don’t have any reviews, and I don't have money to promote it.

Sorry for your luck, there, Neil. At rock bottom you may have thought about opening up a second KDP account. Under no circumstances should you do that. Amazon will ban you immediately if they find out you have two accounts, even if one is never used.
Did you write your own books or use ghostwriters? What were the topics?
Wrote my own. Mainly around Habit Develp, Goal Setting and Mindset.

Unfortunatley you can't cjhange your title r subtitle once published.

Just try and mitigate the losses. If you are still losing on Ads, I’d consider you do some more training if you haven’t already. This knowledge could save you $$$ over the long term.

Hey Romney, You and Paul Marles have kept me on a good track. I think I have been fairly lucky with early sales on 2 or 3 of my 24 books. My frustration is BSR and I have asked about this before. How can sales be going fairly well on a book and the BSR tumbles it into oblivion the next day? I literally went from a 71,000 on my book to today 840,000 over a week. I can’t help but think that BSR is calculated on more than just sales, yes? Thanks, Rick M.
The BSR is still a bit of a mystery with its daily fluctuations but it's supposed to track your book against every other book on Amazon. I'd suggest there are other factors but I'm not exactly sure??
You never really said what you did to turn it around! You mentioned widening your selling platforms beyond Amazon. Was there anything else?
I really made a conscious effort to focus on one particular niche that I was passionate about. I also worked really hard to develop better copy for my book descriptions, improve my book covers and finally, increase my expertise in Amazon Ads. That ws KEY!

Amazon KDP is more about marketing than anything else.
It becomes more about marketing when you have a great book to sell! You can’t market and sell a book that stinks!

With respect, your results after one year are great but back in 2020\21 the market wasn't nearly as saturated as it is now. All the people making great money in the first six months were doing it years back. Seems every man and his dog is mass producing colouring books and planners now. It seems to me the people that got in there early are reaping the benefits. I've been going at this business hard since last November and the time invested to make a couple of quid back for your efforts isn't great. Just my thoughts.

@@globalselfpublishing I’m not trying to downplay your results - as I’ve said your results are great - and I’ve no doubt you’ve bust your ass to do it but I’ve seen quite a few people that have had similar results get results quicker than the ones that started just a year or two before. Sorry that I got my back up quickly about your comment. back when I started, there were still millions of books on Amazon KDP. I didn't jump into the normal No Content Book that many people do. In the early days i was getting up at 4am, then doing a F/T day job then working till 10.30pm for the first 12 months. I spent SO MUCH time to get my books ranked and performing and also made lots of mistakes. I just find that when others have a crack and suggest it was 'easier' than what it is now that they really have no idea of what it has taken to create and publish books consistently and have then continue to perform.
