Pixar and Disneys relationship is like watching a married couple who so desperately wants to get divorced, but stays together for the sake of there kids.
Ah yes my childhood. When I was 13 and my brother was 16 we basically said “hey we are totally cool with y’all getting a divorce. In fact we’re asking y’all to”
Disney is the abusive partner that gaslights pixar into thinking they need disney to survive, no shock that 99 percent of the big pixar people are going to skydance.

One time I was trying to explain Fight Club to my dad and said it's a lot about the fear about what it means to be a man. My dad very confidently said "oh like finding Nemo!". I was completely shocked at the connection. My dad went on to explain Finding Nemo apparently emotionally destroyed him as a young father, because I have one disabled leg similar to Nemo's fin.

I really appreciated Marlin and Dory's strong, platonic friendship, and how they both learned from each other as the movie progressed.
As a kid, I just assumed Dory became like a step mom to Nemo. And I thought that was so cool. I grew up disabled,with a step mom and dad, so seeing a actually nice step mom in a movie was really cool to me.
They said this is a break from their female-centered film reactions, but I'd argue a lot of this movie is about Dory's sincerity and purity and forgiveness (whether intentional or not) winning out and being the reason Marlin and Nemo didn't lose each other forever.
Yeah, I definitely like that they didn't try to shoehorn in a new love interest, and instead we get to see him treat Dory like a second child, in both a good and bad way. It's heart-warming while giving him an outlet that's not his son, all the while showing us and him that he's overbearing with his protectiveness.
Fun fact about the water animation:
When they were animating it, they showed it to the boss, and they were promptly told to do it all over.
The reason? It was TOO realistic. They said if the waters too realistic, the audience would mistake it for a documentary, and fall asleep.

As a child, you're more invested in the colourful characters and the adventure. But as you get older, and possibly become a parent yourself, you begin to relate more with Marlin and his journey to stop overprotecting Nemo, and to enable him to take some risks.

Fun fact: the sea turtle being „high“ is not just a funny parallel to humans, but it's also biologically correct. Some sea turtles actually eat jellyfish and as a result get high from the jellyfishes toxins.
And they found them at a field of jellyfish 😂
I'm studying towards marine biology, and this is correct. Some species of sea turtles eat more jellyfish than others as a primary food source. Crush looks like a green sea turtle or even a hawksbill. Both of them do eat jellyfish as a usual food source, but they also eat coral and other vegetation as well.
Ellen DeGeneres is pretty much the epitome of “You either die a hero or live long enough to see yourself become the villain.”
It's great how Marlin treats Dory like a child. He treats her like an overprotective dad, in both a heartwarming and condescending way. It all leads up to the moment where he accidentally calls her Nemo, and I absolutely love that moment. I think it was his big realisation moment, not only that he's been treating Dory like his son, but also that he's been desperately holding his son back out of fear.

"50 kids" marlon lost 399 kids and his wife. this movie series is one of the best for disability representation. as a disabled guy who also has memory loss finding dory made me sob the first time i saw it. marlon is a great example of an overbearing parent of a disabled kid. fun fact if this was more realistic marlon would've changed sex and nemo would have become his mate
orcas are dolphins and are actually called whale killers but that got translated to killer whale. they're incredibly intelligent and white sharks avoid them for safety. orcas have been found removing shark organs with extreme precision because they feed on the nutrients in them and then leave the bodies behind

I love how Nemo's side of the story is basically "mental ward goes on dirty protest".
I’m disabled and this film came out when I was a child. It was so influential and so awesome for a character to have a weaker limb be so independent.
I remember watching this as a child in theatres and telling my mom that the part where Marlin was giving Nemo a safety briefing around 5:30 was my favourite part of the entire movie. The anxiety really spoke to my soul LOL
I watched this movie 5? times in theaters. And it could have been that part for all of the 90 minutes, and I still would have loved it. So, same.
As a person who became disabled at 13 and is currently 19 this movie means so much to me because that was around the time I wanted to start doing things on my own but my parents were very cautious about letting me go and I often have to remind them, even now that they need to trust that they raised me right and that they can't protect me from everything. the part where he learns to let go and trust in more ways than one makes me cry almost every time because I have PTSD and lupus so I'm disabled in more ways than one.
okay, so finding nemo came out in 2003. at the time, i was 3 years old and my mum and dad had lost 2 kids before having me premi (26 weeks). the opening scene broke my dad, and it still does; if i ask him about disney scenes that made him cry, and he talks about this one, i notice that he stars to cry every time. that shows how effective it is, and also how painful it lol
100% I am a marine bio student now because of my habit of watching this every single day after school as a kid. This and ponyo, my aussie mother did some things right and that was turning me into a ~fish kid~. 🥰 this was very wholesome and so so comforting, as always, good job lads.

I genuinely studied finding nemo in university, as an example of narrative structure during a scriptwriting class.
This was my little sister and I's favorite movie when we were kids. We would watch it nearly every day (multiple times) for months. Definitely a big comfort movie
That's part of the reason I don't think I'd be great having a kid. I don't think my sanity could handle having to watch the same kids movie over and over again haha

Wow never thought just seeing a title of a video would make me cry 😂 I lost my dad this last January and this is the movie we used to watch together everyday when I was little. We quoted it at each other my whole life. Thank you so much for what you guys do! You help others in ways unexplainable

this movie is such a classic and I'd forgotten how much mental illness or disability was in this movie. for example, the fish in the dentist's office also showed signs of certain mental illnesses like OCD, etc...a film definitely worth revisiting as an adult for invaluable lessons about family, friendships, and mental illness/disability. thanks for the reaction guys! I hope you do Finding Dory next because it's just as good imo and has even more lessons to teach ❤
This is the movie that gave me Thalassophobia. I had this as an audio book as a child and hid under my desk everytime the scene with the whale came on.
Also, there is a theory that the Barracuda is a figment of Marlin's imagination and that it was actually his wife that killed his family. You see, Barracuda's don't eat fish eggs and generally stay away from reefs and clownfish. And it is not uncommon for female clownfish, which are stronger than the males, to go berserk on their own eggs. Theory is that she attacked and in repress the insane trauma that would've followed, Marlin replaced the image of his wife with a Barracuda. This goes hand in hand with the theory that Nemo is also just imaginary because Nemo literally means "No one".
And a not so fun fact about clownfish: If this movie were incredibly accurate, Marlin would've switched genders and turned into a female and proceed to mate with Nemo. If the female of a clownfish group (which is also the leader of the group) dies, the next strongest male (typically her mate) literally turns into a female and starts mating with the next strongest male. It's incredible.

I hide during the whale scene too because I have Cetaphobia. Whales are way too big for me to be comfortable with, and they make those horrible noises! I’ve been scared of them since seeing Pinocchio as a kid

My first ever "date" in the 7th grade was to see this movie. And by "date" I mean a group of middle schoolers all going to the movie, but you get to sit next to your crush 😂
We ended up dating for 9 years after that until he cheated on me with my best friend... Oh memories 😂

Since you guy's mainly do female lead movies, Finding Dory would be a great follow up to this since it goes into her background about how she lost her family, and follows her trying to find them, while Marlin and Nemo look for her as well. Dory's story is actually quite sad tbh.
I first watched Finding Nemo when I was three years old. Fast forward a couple of years later it still remains as a classic masterpiece of an animated film. The plot of this has layers to it. It gets you really emotional when you least expect yourself to become emotional. Great reaction as always. Continue the good work.

I was in high school when this came out and I still say escape the way Dori says it 😆... I watched this movie soooooo many times. My favorite part is Nemo's initiation... that whole scene is epic lol
What I like is that I can see both perspectives between Nemo and Marlin.
Marlin undervalues Nemo and his capabilities and as a result, Nemo believed it.
Then, when Marlin blatantly said that he just can't do things, he said that he hated him (I think he meant this side of him). After being shown from Nemos words how he felt, Marlin continued to devalue his capabilities to the teacher and his classmates. To prove him wrong, he swam up to the boat quite quickly on his own where not even his dad noticed, touched the boat, proving to his classmates and was on his way back, still angry to face his father.
THEN THE DIVERS HAPPENED.
Marlin lost his family on that drop off. Then, divers took his son there. He has ptsd and coped by fixating on his son and his safety, even if it meant sheltering his from everything all the time, EVERYWHERE. It was unhealthy, but it didn't get in the way of him forming a positive relationship with his son, it just hurt Nemos growth and self confidence.

I'm 90% sure that angler fish is what gave me a fear of the deep sea. I remember not swimming mid summer as a kid because there was an angler fish toy in the pool.
Marlin's reaction to thinking Nemo is dead sucks, but it's realistic. For example, a lot of married couples end up getting a divorce after the death of a child. You would think they'd lean even more on one another, but it's an incredibly painful thing to go through that I thankfully have never had to experience.
You're right about Aussie accents, the first time I met my Aussie boyfriend, I swore he was from the UK - because I was so used to hearing Steve Irwin type of accents in American media, I didn't realize there could be a more general Aussie accent out there. His boss, on the other hand, has a very strong broad accent that I sometimes have to listen to closely or I'll just completely miss what he says coz there's no subtitles in real life. It's still wild that that Paul Hogan commercial lied to me and you in fact call your shrimp "prawns".
I adore you guys! I always look forward to your videos! As a parent I can understand Marlin's paranoia. As an adult you know the threats that are out there. Also fun fact, it's not PTSD anymore, they changed it to PTSS (Post Traumatic Stress Syndrome) since it's now acknowledged as a serious health issue.

I remember watching this in 3d in the theaters and that shark scene was actually kinda scary then. Now knowing a little more about nature, this movie would have gone pretty differently in real life. Finding Dory was actually a great sequel 👌

This is one of the first movies I remember seeing in theaters, even though I know I saw others before Nemo. The opening scene was so impactful to me as a kid and Thomas Newman’s score for the title card was like a warm hug after that.

This came out when I was 23, and I was instantly in love with this movie. Just start to finish love it all... But when I became a parent, I suddenly related *so hard* to Marlin. 'You don't have to go to school. We could wait 5 or 6 years.'
LOVE this movie, particularly the score. its also just a great movie to help people understand how trauma affects your current behavior and relationships. also love the hair on you both! excited to watch the editing evolve
I (an American) have seen this movie a bunch of times and this is the fist time I really internalized that it takes place in Australia....with the Sydney Opera House and everything....wow.

I would recommended Surf's Up if you're looking for another animated movie to react to - just watched it and I think you would enjoy it; it seems like your style of humour.

My favorite memory tied to this movie is when my family were on a trip to Disney world and we rode a finding Nemo ride, my sister asked what animals from the movie represent us? I said for my mom dory , my sister the “mine!!” Birds, and my mom and sis said for me the child octopus 🐙
Omg the fish net moment at the end was giving me serious Nope vibes! Also, I never put together that all the characters have some form of disability from physical to mental illness and even addiction - really well done 💛🌙🌟✨

So fascinating watching this through the eyes of Australians... Hearing all the comments and details about coral, seagulls, surfing, accents, landscapes just made me appreciate the work that went into this movie☺
I'm from Vancouver in Canada and can safely say that the seagulls are accurate for here as well. Ours are the size of corgis and will steal food right out of your hands. We also have the same problem with tourists feeding them even though there are signs telling them not to everywhere. There seem to be a lot of universal things about living by the ocean regardless of hemisphere haha!

A freaking good movie to watch that just released this week on Netflix is Do Revenge I watched it and it’s exceedes my expectations for the movie based off the trailer… the twist at the end was something I wasn’t expecting for them to do…
We absolutely wore out the Finding Nemo dvd, the main menu and special features section was so aesthetic 👌
Totally sympathetic about the accents. I'm from Texas and the misery index is off the charts hearing fake Texas accents being over-exaggerated. BTW - check out the post credit scene for Nemo if you haven't already. It, and the rolling credits, are really funny!
Exactly! I'm also from Texas and Australia's "crikey" being a thing that used to be said, is like Texas' "Howdy". It's still said a little but it's not really common in everyday life or in today in general.

Loved this movie as a kid, watched it repeatedly. I ended up being an overbearing paranoid parent like Marlin due to my own PTSD. It’s definitely hard to let go, but you have to. My daughter started kindergarten this year and I cried the entire first week because I wasn’t there to keep her safe 😢
