When I buy a expensive knife ( admittedly I do this less frequently , as I grow older ) I expect to get what I pay for ( quality , fit , finish and so on ). When I find a inexpensive ( dare I say cheap.... ) knife that meets my needs , offers quality and value , there is a certain satisfaction that is lacking in the more expensive purchase . I agree 100%. I mostly collect cheap, and cheaper. And I find myself really loving any knife that is good far above its price point, regardless of what that price was .
That blue RR VG10 stockman is a great knife. I gift that to younger friends who have never carried a pocket knife before. It doesn't look all "grandpa", it doesn't feel big in the pocket, and holds an edge a very long time. The Old Timer Heritage series is great too. I would add the Buck 375 which is a great little two blade knife that is perfect for the watch pocket in your jeans. $11 and change at Walmart.
Good point about that RR being a good introductory knife for young adults. It looks cool and has different blade shapes to explore. What's not to like?

I've been massively impressed with the quality of RR knives and have only heard good things about the other models too. TK got me hooked after his Sowbelly Stockman collection video.

Recently started carrying a special gift Swiss Army knife. The blade stays wicked sharp with only infrequent dressing on a carbide sharpener meant for garden pruners. It is the fisherman model, so it has clippers and a true Phillips screwdriver instead of corkscrew.

I bought the Cinnamon Bone Stag Half Hawk for his graduation. He commented on my slip joint at Christmas, So I thought I would get him started with a decent pocket knife when he graduates. The D2 mables stockman was a choice, the Queen sawcut stockman, the Carbon Classic II half hawk, Capital Intern, the Senator and the upcoming Black Appaloosa Easy Open........... Too Many knives, not enough nephews!! 😂😂😂😂

All good!!! I like the Marbles Copperheads and their GI knife, wanted one since I was a kid (they were Camillus then?) but never got around to it. Slightly kicking myself there because you could get them in surplus stores, the American made ones for years for very little money along with German Army knives and British Army clasp knives.

Imho, you can't go far wrong with a Rough Ryder knife, on the other hand, Case leave a lot to be desired. I wouldn't hesitate to order a RR that I liked the look of,, but I'll never order another Case knife, I've been disappointed too many times..
I have a Case on special order and I'm a little worried now. Especially at the price of it. I'll have to check it over carefully. Is there anything I should be looking out for?

Love Rough Riders. I have given many away to kids. I carry a yellow lock back when I need a knife. I’m not a fan of USA brands like Queen and Old Timer that are made across the Pacific. To me they are just posers. With a RR it is what it says it is and if I bust one up, I go get another one. Hard to replace a Case or Schrade-Walden of which I have MANY.

Never trust a Rough Rider that is supposed to have carbon steel blades. Some do and some do not. Those that do use a very, very cheap carbon steel that is nearly useless if you actually use the knife for anything serious. But several I've tested were stainless steel, not carbon steel. Rough Rider makes some very, very good knives, but they have three tiers of quality, and of quality control.
There were some knives that were intended to be carbon that did end up being made with stainless, but was more a mistake of production/ marketing communication than some intentional deception. Rough Ryders can be hit and miss, but to say their carbon steel is bad is too broad a statement in my opinion. I've used it and found it to be similar to carbon blades from other brands.
