I don't want to hog the comments, but I just went to the Rose Craft Blades site. Many of their knives are named after rivers in the Smoky Mountain region. I will have to get one of these since the French Broad carves through the center of the town where I live.

I am curious if you know anything about the origin of the name for this knife? The French Broad River runs south to north through western North Carolina. It is considered to be one of the three oldest rivers in the world. The name French Broad came about to distinguish the river from one a few miles to the south that was called the Broad River and flowed through land controlled by English.

A 5, 6 pull is ideal I think.. An 8 is way too tough.. had several springs of particular RR broke by opening them with an 8 pull. I use them everyday though.. but I only keep ‘em when the pull is not to hard. You have a nice collection. I own 16 Barlow knives as well. And I own 53 RR knives. 😅😭

I'd love a good traditional USA made scout knife, but there hardly seems to be any made anymore... few chinese made for sure, but to be 100% honest Victorinox makes the absolutely best scout style knives... alox pioneer blows everything out of the water in the scout category..

I got mine in high school. I’m class of 1975. The electricity shop instructor sold everybody one of these Camillus made knives. He had a huge box of them.! I love that class had it for three years,,, I lost that knife sometime during my first years, working on elevators(installation at that time) ,,, later years became a big Camillus fan.. not too long before they close their doors,,, really loved their Cuda line of knives, in my minor collecting and use of knives I tried to stay away from more popular case knives… just to be different I guess… so many knives out there so little time/money. ( space)

Post COVID, all manufacturers who do warranty work are STILL having issues in 2024. Fact is, many people retired, moved on, found other jobs, etc. Buck, Case, all these companies are rebuilding their staffing. And the people coming in have NO skills. That is evident by the products being sold. It is going to take some time to train and bring up people, and they will likely lose some along the way and have to start at ZERO with whomever they hire, making it even harder and a longer process. Let me be clear...COVID messed up the entire world. Knives included.

Nice design but I think it would be better with a Drop Point blade, not a big fan of Wharncliffe blade, good job we all don't like the same things. 😁

I’ve got the bourbon bone. Now you go and tempt me with this grey one…😆 This grey kinda reminds me of the handle on my briarpatch jack.

I have a few RC knives, and they’re really good quality. I have the Bourbon bone Barlow, and it’s really nice, I wish they would do a 2 blade with a spearpoint, and a pen blade. I love the spearpoint on the Nolichucky Jack, and think it would look great on a Barlow. Thanks for sharing. God bless.

I really like the gray, but hard to choose a favorite color> I still agree with you about the etching, not a fan of it. Stamped on the bolster, or blade would be much nicer. I think wood would look great on this as well/ Great video John! Congrats to Matt as well!!!

Cool review. I think I’ll pass, a little too much $ for my tastes, especially without brass liners. I always thought the Chinese made OEM knives that are so prevalent in today’s knife world, are a little deceptive with not putting china anywhere on the knife. I realizing ppl don’t prefer that, but it does seem like these companies don’t want us to know where it’s made. I mean, I thought Jack wolf were USA made cuz of the $300 pricetag. It’s def not from the cost of labor over there. Thanks for sharing
