This show was genius and even better it was always written by some news that happened during that week so they didn`t have that much time planning it. Atte Järvinen is my favorite Finnish writer.
Those "Ihmisten puolue" (or "People's Party") sketches are insanely funny! 🤣 I recommend watching them more if you can find them at all!
The subtitles aren't telling the whole story lol..she said "My booze has pills (tabuja, Finnish slang) " 🤣😂🤣

They did a whole series on this. Hilarious.
The real difference is that in Finland you have to plan drinking. So you make sure you get enough alcohol to your event and not too little which leads to drinking excessively. But in the case you could buy int in any store at anytime the store is open would temporarily lead to drunkards get more drunk, while the rest would stop planning for drinking as you could get your wine/liquor/beer when you want it. Amd you would just buy what you need for the occasion.
I can promise you that drinks running out is WAY more common that having too much of it...Even in countries that do have more free alcohol sales, you are drunk, run out and can't be arsed to even walk two blocks to get more. The sad truth, no matter what side in the argument you are is that Finnish system is not much worse or much better. The true test is when we get proper wine in the food stores and my guess is that it does not have a huge effect but if we let vodka in.. it'll be a disaster for small portion of the population. Spousal abuse and suicides will increase immediately if you let strong liquor in the stores. Wine.. is not going to be a big deal.

I think the psychology of denying something causing it to seem more appealing also applies to things someone can't have. If something is out of your reach you really crave for it, but once you have it the magic and excitement of having it quickly fades and it becomes the new "norm" and you crave for something even more grandiose.
One of the best shows.

Smh the subtitles are so lame XD At 1:07 When Topi-Petteri says "Kyllä minusta tässä taas mennään käärme edellä perseeseen", the subs say: "We are doing this the wrong way", when he's actually saying something like "we're going head first into an ass with a snake". I know it makes no sense in English, it's an odd saying I haven't heard before, and there's no easy way to translate it. So I guess that's why the subtitles are the way they are, but I just wanted to try and give people who don't speak Finnish a more accurate picture of the humour of this show, because I really enjoy it.
In the beginning the expression for doing things wrong was "entering the ass snake first" 😂
It's a pity that the translation takes away so much of the humor of the series. I know it's not professional to translate literally... but there's just so many fun sayings the people who don't speak Finnish won't get there x'D
I really do think that these would actually work at least to Finns. 😂 We are so stubborn people.

The show is quite good way to understand Finnish political spectrum, the group has representatives from all "sides" and they are caricatures.
Also: if this is something you like, definitely check Yes, mr Minister and Yes, mr Prime Minister. They are UK shows from the 80s and are the absolute best of topical political comedy shows of all times. This show here is wonderfully written but it pales in comparison with the grandad of this exact genre of comedy. It is just brilliant.
Before this show there was our version of Yes, mr Minister but it was quite distinct and was about "sauna politics". It was not as good as Ihmisten Puolue but ground breaking at the time. A lot of important deals have been made in sauna over the years in Finland, specially important it was in the 60-70s in the Kekkonen era for getting deals that benefitted us economically.

Yup, most of the quips were just translated straight, "from the snakes arse" became "not great" or something like that..
@@Kerppu68 Nah, they are not good at all. The problem is that they are accurate enough to convey the discussion in a sensible and direct manner... like on a technical Wikipedia translation.
*However!* This is a comedic script, not a Wikipedia page! The translation completely fails to convey all the extremely important subtexts and wordplay that are crucial for conveying the comedic value of such a script! since they have been lost in translation
If, unlike you and me who obv. can, one can't understand Finnish and is solely relying on these English subtitles, then half of the jokes will either not land at all or feel extremely bland
Must say that odd, that you add money if want to send msg. This clip is Finnish and also political. But, good for you to make Finnish comedy and ask money to ask anything from you.
