- JUDY GARLAND "GET HAPPY"
Though it's called Summer Stock, this marvelous "let's put on a show" musical - the final one that showcased the peerless pair of Judy Garland and Gene Kelly - is a delight for all seasons. The story is simple: a homespun farm family allows a Broadway production company to rehearse its new show on their property - if the performers "pay" their way by pitching in with all the farm chores! But the pleasures are abundant: a show-stopping, all-star "Battle of the Dances" that starts out as a square dance and blossoms into a cavalcade of high-stepping dance favorites; Kelly's marvelous song and later dance to "You, Wonderful You;" four of the most popular comedic screen actors ever: Phil Silvers, Eddie Bracken, Hans Conried and Marjorie Main; and Garland's incomparable "Get Happy," a smashing sequence that's one of her peak movie moments. - Zábava
Thumbs up if house DID bring you here, Because theres no shame in a popular TV show bring new people to a legendary performer who I didn't even know about before house.

She was a legend! She could sing, dance and act! Amazing :-)
"Happy Birthday Judy" to a very talented actress and singer.
Judy Garland really was one of a kind.
Judy Garland was a genius, nothing less.
I don't know what dazzles me more, Judy's voice, her costume, or the choreography. This is the height of 50s jazz-and it had just gotten started!
Judy's amazing talent and legacy brought me here.
I dressed up like this one year for halloween (any excuse to dress up like Judy tbh lol) and I had so much fun explaining to people who I was lol!
Judy, although you suffered mentally with depression and alcoholism, we still love you and remember you even now. Thank you for your skills :)
You can't say that music has only recently become repetitive... but this is still awesome
R.I.P Judy Garland :'(
we all miss you loads :'( xxxxxxxx
dang she's talented! what a voice! and I've never thought of her as a dancer, but her subtle movements in this number are so graceful and done with ease. truly a spectacular performer. She makes me proud to call myself a Minnesotan!!
I'm both slightly disturbed yet kind of stoked about the fact that Leland Palmer from "Twin Peaks" brought me here today. This will always be one of my favourite musical performances by one of my favourite performers of all-time.
possibly the definitive performance of this song.
Aw man, when music and culture was thriving and so original an beautiful.
Happy 93rd birthday to the world's greatest entertainer, Judy Garland!
Fall on your knees, pretenders. THIS is massive talent at work.
+Jonathan Kieran Absolutely right. And it´s never too late to discover Judy :-)
Amen.
It sure is :-)
Tears for this Lady and incredible talent and performance. I love Judy
Judy, you were/are wonderful. Don't believe what people may say- they don't know. I wish you hadn't believed your critics. You are great. May your memory be eternal.
The greatest performer of the 20th century... The greatest singer of all-time...
It's 2023. Imagine that! Seventy-three years ago Judy wowed 'em with this song...and tonight? My BFF and I are listening to it from opposite sides of the USA... I know we're both smiling. I know we're both belting out the big "finish!" (And I know my BFF and I will never have a "finish") Thanks, Ms. Garland! Thanks, BFF! Love you both!
Judy Garland was a legend. Rest in Peace Judy Garland.
I'm glad to see a lot more people are now discovering this wonderful clip, didn't have as many views back in 2007. :-)
Reminds me of 1993 Michael Jackson's Dangerous performance
She 's the godess ever! BRAVO for Hollywood historical memory! Emmanuel from Paris
I saw a video with and interview of Mickey Rooney, where he describes this song and dance scene as Judy "At the Top of her game". She's fantastic in this scene, that outfit is THE BOMB! Great Gams Too! Her life was so tragic, I'm glad we have this legacy she left us to remember the good times she and we had , of her giving of herself to us, and us enjoying her performances, loving and being enthralled by her.
TRULY AMAZING JUDY!! Her legend will stay here forever and no one can beat her performances
I have been here when everybody thinks your going to fail at the big moment.
This is why I adore her. She ALWAYS delivered when evryone else wrote her off.
This is just one more extraordinary day in Judy Garlands life. It ended up being one of the best, and one I will always treasure. I wish I could have known her, but glad to just keep her her in my heart as a legend. I wish she could have felt half the love in her day to day life that that we all say we feel for her today
Here because of Joker, glad they're helping to immortalise Garland's legacy
When my Mom and Dad went to see this in a theater in 1951, the audience gave this a STANDING OVATION!!!
This woman was so talented so amazingly talented, she was so beautiful, she really was I only hope as a fan, that her legacy and talent will never be forgotten and that younger generations of people discover the magic that was,Judy Garland the worlds greatest entertainer. She was like the female Sinatra, to she,is like Elvis or MJ,or the Beatles.

This one of her best performances of the 1950's. I love her voice.

What can be said about Mrs Judy she made this a better world to live in her an singing an acting something we all need more of the sparkle she give to all of us an are children for generations to come all my love always Giovanni I just love her.....
Happy Birthday Beautiful! We love you and will never forget you!
Nothing beats originality. Such an utter shame that idolised celebs no longer have morals and class. RIP morality
I understand what you are saying here but the fact is that MGM exercised great control over its stars at the time this movie was made in 1950 and that would have no doubt included control over every aspect of Judy Garland's wardrobe. I suspect her clothes were carefully chosen by the Wardrobe Department to make sure they conformed with the moral standards of the period and if you think about it, her legs are no more exposed than some of the other female movie stars/dancers of the 1930s and 40s - for example, Betty Grable, Eleanor Powell and Ann Miller (when she shows her legs in "Shaking The Blues Away" in Easter Parade). I agree with you that she is extremely talented though!
+smorgastorta Did you fall down and hurt your head?. What's the difference between Judy's Outfit, And Esther Williams bathing suit? Except that Judy was covered up more.
Can anybody walking down the red carpet in Hollywood today be able to top this performance? I highly doubt it. I was born in the wrong era.
How about Neil Patrick Harris?
me too, but thank God for film to capture the gifts of this supernaturally talented woman and bestow them on generations to come--
totally wrong era. God if only racism and sexism was more rampant right now. Ugh, I get you. Such a shame we're in the modern world.
Daniel Perez I agree. There's no racism today and past generations had nothing worthy to offer or learn from. Gotcha.
How about Hugh Laurie (a.k.a Greg House)?
Love you Judy. You will never be forgotten!!!!!
The last number she ever filmed at MGM and certainly one of her best.
The opening sequence is where Michael Jackson got the idea for the opening of his Dangerous live performance.
Plot twist : it's not a Lupus
thumbs up
yes! XD
it's never Lupus
It's never Lupus
Aleš Nezbeda too slow budd
Watching this with my BFF who is over 3,000 miles away. We just had a long and delightful digital conversation so it is too late... because I already "got happy" before watching this classic number from a classic Judy Garland movie. Good night, BFF. Sweet (and happy) dreams.
God Bless Judy! She went thru a living hell! No one can hurt her now! She is in Heaven! Best Movie of 2020 Oscar Time for Rene Zellweger!
So this is where Michael Jackson got that hat tilt move.
Actually, he got it from Bill Bailey.
Judy did the hat thing more than anyone I've ever seen. Bar none. Go check out her films starting about 1939.
Yes he fully testified to that , these were his inspiration , Gene Kelly etc
Max Jackson yes also watch his 1995 mtv performance when they were shooting the guns :) he got from this performance he loved Judy
He also got the moonwalk from Judy in MMISL ( Underneath the bamboo tree ) & The lean from ( Biddin my time ) in Girl crazy.
Broad City brought me here.
Yes! Broad City brought me here
same haha
she killed the wardrobe and little dancing stuff
One of the best scenes in the show so far IMO :)))
House did it right on the for the Cuddy problems of life hallelujahs!! The best House episode of all.
This is real talent. No auto-tune or over produced rubbish!
Wow that's where the dangerous choreography came from
BROAD CITY. VAL FOREVER.
YES
This is the same routine MJ used in his performance of the song "Dangerous" that one year at the MTV awards. He was such a class act. He took this wonderful era and brought it to the 80's, 90's and beyond fusing it with pop music. And his friends such as Lizza M and Elizabeth Taylor, Gene Kelly and Sammy Davis loved him for it, ad did we.
I never thought that a song about the Apocalypse could be so cheerful.
Holy shit! This and Fred Astaire's Dem Bones Cafe inspired Michael Jackson's live performance of Dangerous.
Anyone else think this song is perfect for fallout 4?
it suits well
Yes holy shit
or bioshock infinite it has the weird feel
@Totally Not A Banana
Or that game, "We Happy Few"
Too bad that game sucks horribly... ( ಠ Ĺ̯ ಠ )
MrReaperofDead relative to the others its terrible, on its own its enjoyable. Unless you are a Bioshock Purist in which case only Bioshock 1 played on low res with a potato from 2001 will satisfy you.
My favorite singer of all time
Oh my my my... Judy was such a amazing person, She never got a chance to be happy. her biography "Get Happy" Was truly captivating, It was as though you really knew her and she was not some mystical star people only dreamed of, She was so vulnerable and weak, and the only place she ever felt truly comfortable was on the stage with her fans. She will live on through the legacy of her Amazing voice.
House... strangely brought me here.
Newport County v Mansfield brought me here !
SAME HERE
I'm here because of Hugh Laurie (House MD)
love the way dance has progressed but this still makes me tingle .............. classy
Definitely going to watch Judy.
some serious leg envy going on here
Twin Peaks fans, gather 'round.
Linn Björnsdotter Leland!
Her greatest performance at Metro Goldwyn Mayer. Raw talent at its best
Hollywood's greatest talent!
2:02 .. male dancer next to Judy with crazily legs bending like that???? Whoa, I'd need a pair of crutches if I tried that!!!
HOUSE
yess ..thats what brought me here.... i love house!. they did a good job with it :)... this lady is great though. love this song.
that's what brought me here to yay house
I'm 16 years old and spend my days wishing I was born 50 years old earlier... This is music. I'm not saying that modern music is bad, but there are times when I wish that I lived in the age of Judy Garland, Ella Fitzgerald and Barbra Streisand. Inspiration indeed :)
So good. And once again, a perfect Harold Arlen song for her
This is marvellous!
Uncontrived and unaffected artististry, plain and simple!
Gaaaah-Rayt!!!
And, above everything: a religious song in mini-skirt and totally sexy! Hahahahahahaha ;-))))))
But I ask: why is everybody "dying" on the floor, when Mrs. Garland shows up?
This should be in Fallout 4.
i wish!
Damnit, It's not, I lose
omg yess
A cheerful, hoppy song about eagerly awaiting the End Times? That's a little on the nose, isn't it? :D
Lol I was thinking the same thing!
Dr. House did not bring me here. I have admired Judy all my life. What a shame what they did to her. She was a true natural talent.
I love House, I really do, I'm a giant fanatic but I love Judy Garland and she did it best.
I don't watch TV so I'm here because I wanted to see this again. She was brilliant. Anyone know who choreographed this? It's from 1950. Is that too early for Fosse? Anyway, love it.
Baranduyn NoIdea it was choreographed by Charles Walters who went on to become a director the started as a dancer at MGM
+john mathews, Chuck Walters directed this film. He directed Judy in Easter Parade 2 years earlier. I also he did
+John, sorry I hit the wrong key. Chuck did the couple of swells number with her Opening Night at the Palace Theater in New York. He thought that she would be less nervous if he did this for is very good friend. He was right, it did calm her down somewhat. After all she was about to attempt the impossible. And she was a smash. She was so good that she received a special Tony for her unforgettable performance.
Dr House
Get Happy - totally agree - Lovin the outfit and how lucky am I to have all this music in my lifetime from this to lmfao ... queen ... michael jackson ... mario ... etc etc ... it goes on so chase all your cares away xxx
nothing better!!! Judy Garland was an awesome talent... watch A Star Is Born, Judgement At Nuremburg, Summer Stock.... watch\listen to her concerts from Carnegie Hall... She was brilliant!!!! I have loved her my entire life... no one compares to her...
I'm here because of Broad City haha
broad city brought me here
Lol. The power of House. Just a promo and suddenly everyone knows this song! ^^
My favorite performance of hers.
Who's here 'cause of House MD?
What a great pair of legs. She can sing too...
Liza said that this was Judys' best work ever
i forgot all about she did this. outstanding
Little voice brought me here
Got a tattoo of her,
And your hair is red like hers, too! :) You're obviously a great fan. Congrats! You have great taste!
Man, she was so beautiful
Miss Garland had spectacular gams.
