And yet "Coming in at No. 1 is the hard-touring Dave Matthews Band, which banked nearly $530 million from the sale of 11.6 million tickets since 2000. His tour stops included the New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Festival, most recently in 2009. Not too shabby for being "under-rated"!

You will have a field day getting into DMB if you like the drums on this one. Carter Beauford is one of the best out there right now and one of my favorites of all time. His cymbal work is so fun to listen to. There are probably others more familiar with the totality of DMB's catalog who can suggest good songs but their first two albums ('Under The Table And Dreaming' and 'Crash') are the best place to look in my opinion. The drumming is incredible throughout.

DMB is the rare rock band that is not electric guitar-based. Matthews himself plays acoustic, but the sax and violin sounds fill the space that in other bands would be an electric guitar. Made them unusual on the jam band scene in the 90s. Obviously, the rhythm section is off the charts great.

I love all their albums before 2001. For some reason, just everything after never did it for me. RIP Leroy, you are missed dearly. I also wish that Boyd didn't fuck himself over. For me, Dave Matthews was like the song on the radio that you would listen to and enjoy, but not the one you really craved. It was a safe party selection because it was generally accepted and something everybody knew. It was omnipresent through television, radio, and people's personal recordings. Hell, it was good stuff you couldn't get away from even if you tried! But I was the bad boy. I was still in a grunge grog stupor when I started mainlining Stevie Ray Vaughn. When I'd get my fix, I'd be, "Dave who? Tell me, is it still flooding down in Texas? Radio? What radio?" That just reminded me of a song. I think it's called "Mexican Radio" and I think the band is called Wall of Voodoo. Does that answer your question?

Perfect choice for 1st listed of DMB. Welcome to the fan club! 😂 Carter Beauford is one of the best drummers to walk this planet. Look up his GoPro video ...mind blowing. You MUST seem them live!!!!!

I love your reaction to this, and your takeaways. Carter's background is jazz, which may explain all that hi-hat tastiness ;-)

Just found their first 3 CDs at the thrift store... This is from their second LP which has several tasty tracks. The first LP is really sweet. This reaction was before I found you... Glad I searched to see what else you've done on these guys... Only see one other tune from their 3 LP... Really surprised... I'll have to see if you do any research on the next one to see if you discovered that these guys are really really philanthropic and gave back an awful lot to charity... Not only were they noted for very animated live shows but they liked to never play the same song exactly the same so fans really enjoyed the unique riffs and solos which changed with every show.

I highly recommend Bartender from Folsom Field so you can see how the band performs live, Warehouse, Tripping Billies, Lie in our Graves, Seek Up from live at Red Rocks (not to be confused with Weekend on the Rocks), You Might Die Trying from Live at Wrigley and Jimi Thing from Live Trax 2 ( I was at that one). Oh and Too Much- any live version.

There's no doubt, if you ever wondered about Dave and the boys, all u have to do is listen or go to a show. The hook is real and subtly pleasing to the soul.
Dave Matthews Band is the 2nd most popular band in the history of the world, behind U2, based on ticket sales.🥁nugget from a drummer fan. See...Carter Beauford on drums. 🤯blowing bubbles, wearing golf gloves....lol

Hi ya JP. Well as one drummer to another I would suggest that you invest in an electronic drum kit. I've been a drummer for 61 years and just invested in one last year. I bought an alesis dm10 mkii studio kit with mesh heads. It is awesome. The mesh heads make it very quiet when using your headphones. The monitor has approximately 65 different drum kits on it and another 170 different drum sounds. You can play everything from conventional acoustic kits to steel drums. The kit is very responsive and is just as sturdy as a conventional acoustic kit. It feels just like any acoustic kit. Check them out. And your neighbors will never know you are playing.

Start by listening to Crash start to finish, move on to Before These Crowded Streets, Then jump to Big Whiskey and the Groux Grux King, then just keep exploring, eventually move on the live versions! Have fun! They are my most favorite band of all time, and yes they are very much relevant, touring every summer and creating new music all the time! The options are endless :)

#1 "Dancing Nancies" from "Under The Table and Dreaming" (orgasmic at the end)
#2 "Warehouse" from "Under the Table and Dreaming" (intense)
#3 "The Stone" from "Before These Crowded Streets" (dark, intense and forboding)
#4 "Satellite" from both "Remember Two Things" and "UTTAD". I like the "RTT" version best
    (dreamy and joyful)
JP, fan of your critiques since JPMP. Your reviews are always on point and articulate and I appreciate that a lot. When I saw the video title of you reviewing #41, I had a big smile on my face, thinking, JP is going to love this. Best song on the album. Posted above are songs you must check out by DMB. listening to the album Crash, always mellows me out and helps me to think clearly. Oddly enough, my least favorite song is Crash Into Me. It's more so about how people say, "oh this my favorite love song!" or "This is mine and my boyfriends favorite song!" Any real DMB fan will understand why.
