Freddie and the boys worked on this album in 1990, and they were able to do some videos in 1991 for the songs that were released then. Innuendo was released in February of 1991 long prior to Freddie Mercury's death and he lived long enough to know this album went straight to number "one" just as the miracle album. "The show must go on" was released six weeks before Freddie Died. These bandmates were wonderful to work with him and put together all the music that he could put out and sing during the last final years of his life. I'm not sure that he was playing like piano in the last album, Innuendo, but the fabulous work that Freddie Mercury, Brian May, John Deacon, and Roger Taylor will long Be Remembered in those of us who in joy and love their music. They are music Royals and that's putting it lightly.❤❤

In case you didn't realize, the various visuals of the band itself are from previous Queen videos, with each one portrayed as if by a different artist. Freddie by Leonardo Da Vinci, John Deacon by Picasso, Roger Taylor by Jackson Pollock, and Brian May in the more general style of Victorian Era etchings.

Faith thank you for another great reaction. This one was priceless. It's also sad knowing that this album was Freddie's last. There are some other songs he recorded after this album but they are on Made in Heaven which was released in 1995. Some of the songs on that album were pieced together from the vocals that Freddie recorded in the last months of his life. He wanted to give the band as much as he could to work with after he was gone. He loved to sing and was totally devoted to Queen. He such an amazingly beautiful person.

May have been some Homer Simpson drool. Reminds me of the time I was in a pub in Spring with a senior vicar, someone who made suits and someone who had a massive thermometer. Oh yes. Phenomenal! I totally and completely agree, Queen's music is always full of surprises and they bring something to the table to satisfy every sense and put a smile on your face! I love to think of them as modern Mozart also! Not only are they a band of transcendent geniuses, but of deep thinkers that border on (if not totally) philosophical! Each member of the band was illustrated in homage to a different artist or artistic style: Freddie Mercury in homage to Leonardo Da Vinci, Brian May after victorian etchings, John Deacon in homage to Picasso and Roger Taylor after Jason Pollock. Your reactions are still among the best! Keep them up!

Unfortunately there aren't any other versions. This song was released on the last album Freddie was able to work on with them ("Innuendo" - this is the titular album song - in 1991). It was recorded less than a year before he died, I believe. :( The album after this, Made in Heaven, had a lot of songs that Freddie had worked on and that the band finished and remastered laster, after his death.

*Steve Howe met Freddie like a customer of Mercury and Taylor market stall, in 1971. In 1991 they meet by lucky in Switzerland. Queen showed him some songs, Steve say that he liked them and in special Innuendo, then the band said him that they wanted a guitar some like "Paco de Lucia" guitar. Howe thought that decission maybe will ruin the song, but he worked in the song and when he listen the ultimate version song he was very very pride and he was very amazed of the Queen's idea.
The song that blow my mind and change my life, I understand all your words. The first time I listened to this song I obssessed with it, I needed the song and the album. We didn't have youtube in that old-times, we only had cassettes. This album have so many great songs, and hidden gems like "Don't Try to hard" a message of a ill Freddie Mercury singing with a smooth delicate falsette voice (except one phrase very well choused), I don't have words in english to express I think it (english is not my mother language). And another gems, "Ride the Wild Wind" or "My Bijou" (a reverse song, the guitar are the lead vocal and Freddie has a "solo"). And of course I have the singles, the no-hidden gems like The Show Must Go On.
I remeber be in the car with the family and when my mother listened this song, the first time, in 1991, she don't undestand a word, but when the song end the flamenco (Paco de Lucia is the inspiration) she said "oh, that's beautiful" I never listened that again for any song.
"Was it all worth it" is the song before to Innuendo, the last of Miracle album, the first swan song of Freddie Mercury, he didn't know if he will be lived at 1990 so he guarded that song like he guarded The Show Must Go On. And It was all worth it.

  • @mmaloneym
    @mmaloneym Před 4 lety +14

I hate to tell you there’s no other version of this song. It’s from the last album Freddie did with the band while he was still alive. He was extremely ill. That’s why the video doesn’t have them in person in it.
Freddie had said in a documentary he didn’t like to write “message” songs at all, however, the closer he got to death things changed somewhat. His vocals were impeccable the last couple years he was alive.
The guitarist from the band YES did the Spanish bit. I can’t remember his name. That was a first. Brian killed it with his electric guitar too. It’s a great song- the whole Innuendo album is fantastic. The Show Must Go On is also on this album. Don’t Try So Hard is a great Freddie vocal on this album also!!!
BTW- there have been numerous requests to do White Queen live at Hammersmith Oden 1975. It’s early Freddie with beautiful vocals and a piano/guitar. Solo.

It was from the Miracle album. The song was written by Brian and there is a video that was done on a stage with no audience. The harmonies will blow you away and Freddie’s vocals are absolutely AMAZING! The man was phenomenal.... he was fighting a horrible battle for his life and yet he managed to give everything he had in him to keep giving his fans music. The video is shot in black and white and Brian’s guitar and Roger’s drums are off the hook. Freddie’s voice is as powerful and fantastic as it ever was. You will be asking yourself if “this” is your new favorite next. The harmonies begin in acapella and the rest is just history. Enjoy❤️

middle section was primarily Mercury's work, according to an interview with May in October 1994's Guitar Magazine. It features a flamenco guitar solo, followed by a classically influenced bridge, and then the solo again but performed with electric guitars. This section is especially complex, featuring a pattern of three bars in 5/4 time (reasonably uncommon in popular music) followed by five bars in the more often used 3/4 time. The end of the flamenco-guitar style is based on the 5/4 bar, but is in 6/4 time.
The bridge section ("You can be anything you want to be") features sophisticated orchestration, created by Mercury and producer David Richards using the popular Korg M1 keyboard/synth/workstation. Mercury had arranged and co-arranged orchestras in his solo career, and closed the previous Queen album with the track "Was It All Worth It", which included a Gershwin-esque interlude also coming from an M1 synth. The Bridge section in "Innuendo" is in 3/4, showing once again Mercury's affection for triple metres: "Bicycle Race" is another one with main sections in 4/4 and middle-eight in 3/4, and some of his best-known pieces (namely "We Are the Champions" and "Somebody to Love") were in 6/8, as would be his last composition, "A Winter's Tale".

I love your reaction to innuendo, I love your passion for this song. You have just hit all the points to why this is my favourite queen song. I love queen, I've loved them almost from their entire history. So to have a singular favourite is saying a lot. They have produced some of the greatest music from their beginnings to the present day. I truly believe their music is a special moment in human history, music that genuinely touches our very soul. But innuendo is truly a masterpiece of music. There is soooooo much happening in that one piece that it makes you have to listen to it again and again and again, just to simply peal through it's layer's. It is a song that deeply touches my very soul with so many emotions. The lyrics are pungent that hit fast and true, the music that brings you on the emotional rollercoaster. And yet they are so intrinsically entwined.
It's a song that you just can not have one without the other. I hope that makes sense. There are so many songs that we hear every day where we hear the tune but are not drawn into the lyrics. Innuendo just sucks you in, draws you and lays bare your soul. Genius piece of music!!!!

I remember the day the album came out and I sat in front of my stereo with those big 70s Pioneer headphones on my head. I was literally shocked and awed by that album. So many lyrics spoke of that terrible, terrible future we were about to see in November of that year (Freddie's death). I remember asking myself that evening, whether it meant what I suspected. I then laid those thoughts to the side and (mostly) forgot about them during the coming months, as Queen released some videos (like "I'm going slightly mad" for example), and all seemed well. (Yes, I know, in hindsight, we can clearly see that he wasn't exactly well during that video, but before his death, the perspective was quite different, you know. It was a fun video that didn't point to a dark cloud as "Those were the days" or "The show must go on, both of which were released as videos and singles after Freddie's death.) I was 16 when the album was released, 17 when he died. And had become a Queen fan about 3 years earlier.

I am moved every day by Freddie’s self motivation. As sick as he was he continued to push and work and play and record everyday right up to his death. He recorded music and he KNEW he would be gone before it would be released. One of my favorite Freddie stories comes from Elton John. Elton said Freddie had bought him a Christmas present and knew he wouldn’t be around when Elton opened it.

This album is I think their most mature record. Amazing to think Freddie was still able to sing. My favorite song on this album is I’m Going Slightly Mad. The video is fabulous. Oh I guess I should say Queen invented the music video. As Freddie said “we made a little movie today!” It was for Bohemian Rhapsody. Can you imagine if Queen had copy-written the music video Industry as their own ? EVERYONE and I mean EVERYONE would be paying QUEEN for the rights to music videos....just like Apps for your computer today....There were other videos most were tapes of bands playing their song from start to finish) I think David Bowie had beaten Queen to the punch with one of his videos. But Queen perfected the format. I’m amazed by the “style “ of this video. This is art. The full package.

Freddie and Roger wrote this together though it is credited to Queen. Roger has a very interesting genre of writing so I always see him as a wild card. He also is happy to address social issues though Freddie often said that anything political was not something he was passionate about so he tended to stay away from it. Freddie felt that a Queen show should be a break from that sort of thing. With all that said, this is a great song and I believe an award winning video. Steve Howe (Yes) played the Spanish guitar part on this song but said it was so involved he didn't think that he could delive it but he did a great job. Having four very different writers really gives Queen a lot to work with for each of their albums. I would love to hear just the orphans that they tossed into a drawer and never put on an album.

  • @ImperialMJG
    @ImperialMJG Před 2 lety

This is a Freddie Mercury creation. Many say its like Bohemian Rhapsody 2. Just heavier. And I think its my favourite of all songs. The Innuendo album (last when he was alive) is the best... Most "complete" album. I Just love this song. "Dont take offence at my Innuendo". I so get that. Its so true. People should chill. He created the riff etc on piano like he often did, and then Brian May knew how to play it. The guy doing the flamenco part was a Friend of Freddie.
Just believe the mind of Freddie. He was a musical genious. He is like Beethoven of our times. And he could play the piano like a god. Brian May sais people sort of forget his piano skills cause they focus on his Voice talent for the most.
Not to not give enough Credit to the rest of the band, but Freddie had that little extra spark in his mind when it came to composition. He created the more complex songs of them, and its Just mind blowing.

😊 So funny cause I say the same thing about Queen they are the modern day Mozart. I love seeing your enthusiasm and excitement ! It was the same way I felt when I was 8 years old in 1975 when Keep Yourself Alive came out. That’s what Queen does best, they bend musical genres, mash them up and pour them out in their rock music format. I knew I just knew it. When I was 8, I could see what they were going to be come and I was all in for the ride.

  • @sharonallforloveandpositiv5497

I love this...I see this as a brother to Bohemian Rhapsody with the changes in style...fantastic and yes..as you say.."awesome a masterpiece"..
The video contains images of Queen’s repertoire and pieces of previous videos. However these images have been reworked and filtered.
    1. Freddie Mercury looks like a pastel or pencil drawing on old paper. It reminds us of the famous music video by A-ha “Take on me”, where the protagonist emerges from a comic strip.
    2. Guitarist Brian May has been filtered with a punctual style, reminiscent of the art made with the technique of xylograph.
    3. The image of drummer Roger Taylor is treated with the filter of abstract expressionism and closely resembles Kandinskij’s paintings.
    4. Bassist John Deacon has turned into a Cubist opera by Pablo Picasso.
A music video, therefore, that announced the future: how many are smartphone apps and softwares that manipulate the images? And how much do we like to use them to improve our shots to post on social networks?
What is the pack of puppets in the video Innuendo by Queen
The location is a miniature cinema. In the room there are no people but puppets and dolls.
On the screen you can see black and white video of wars (in particular the Second World War and the Gulf War).
Bombs, armies that march, plane crashes, people in prayer and the emblematic image of massed locusts.
Capitalism makes us a bunch of small, huddled beasts. Use the mass media to entertain and shape our minds. It bombards us with information to make us confused and unarmed, used to the scoop and the sensational, eager for struggle and conflict. It massifies us like swarms of insects and takes away our identity as if we were puppets.
