I like that you bought this with your own money. We’re in the same boat. And I’ll trust your review more with that disclosure you made. Guest network with timer, device priority, so cool.
I got this bad boy about 1 month ago and I’m really happy with it. My property is only 2500 square foot and it’s a all brick house and even in the basement where I had no coverage before I get 200mbps up/down out of the 400 of my data plan. If you got a high speed data this thing is a must otherwise you’re just throwing your money away cause your paying for something you’re not getting.
I have Netgear Orbi System RBR50 Router and RBS50 Satellite almost 3 years old now and it still gets 440 mb/s download wirelessly on both my phone and computer connected to RBS50 satellite which is insanely good for a old system. I think you should compare Orbi Wifi 6, its probably better than AMPLIFI Alien.
I went back to my Gryphon router and have 450-500 mb/s speeds on all devices. I have no idea if it just does better in a highly congested signal area or what the issue was with the Alien. I will try a new WiFi 6 system this winter. Thanks for the tip!
I love had this router for about a month now and I haven't had any hiccups whatsoever with it and its definitely a conversation piece but for how advanced the router is, the app is a little too basic. Setup was very simple, closer to 3 min in reality. Just wish there was more customization for a router of this price but for the consumer who just wants to "set it and forget it" you cant go wrong with the alien
I know Im randomly asking but does anyone know a way to get back into an Instagram account?? I stupidly forgot my password. I love any help you can give me.
@Devin Cedric I really appreciate your reply. I found the site through google and Im waiting for the hacking stuff atm. I see it takes quite some time so I will reply here later with my results.
I just got lucky and bought a nearly new one on E Bay and soon I will buy a second / same full feature model vs adding a mesh unit. This gives me double the networking features to unifi* the majority of my network needs ( WAN, LAN, WiFi6 and all networked devices. I am lucky I have fiber optic 1G conectivity from my ISP and have wired by buisiness bld and adjoing apartment with Cat 8 cable as well. I feel I am future proof prepared for the next decade and beyond. Only my client devices will need updating if I feel the need.
Thanks, I appreciate that! Are you asking how do you know if your device is wifi 6 capable? Or, how you know your wifi 6 device is actually on the wifi 6 (AX) channel?
That depends. Nest is a cheaper mesh system. The alien can mesh but your looking at $700+ for two. On the other hand, the alien will future proof your new future devices that are wifi 6 enabled. If you don’t think you’ll be upgrading many devices soon than you probably don’t need a WiFi 6 router.
Hi, thanks for sharing does it run hot? It seems to have no vents for calling. Also how is it holding up so far any loss of signal or dropouts? Have you had to restart it at all or trouble issues thanks
Any update on the use of this? Have you noticed if the ipad is working better? I would be a little concerned about the explanation that they gave you about congestion because thats the whole point of wifi 6 is to improve congestion performance and seeing that you had to compatible devices i would have expected faster speeds. But there is the other side of the coin and it could have been a poor implementation on apples part which might improve with a few updates.
@@dad.0 Do you also have the wifi 5 radio turned on in the alien router? There is a third 4x4 5ghz wifi 5 radio that can take most of the wifi 5 devices and let the ax run on the ax...may be that too many lower compatible devices running on wifi 6 radio. Just an idea that could or could not help.
@@dad.0 Very weird..it could just be as they said... alien runs wifi 6 5gz at 80mhz channel band and maybe with the amount of interference you are around it is making it run at a lower band to compensate or simply not able to due to the interference

The iPad Pro 2020 and iPhone 11 have two streams in 80 MHz, i.e. theoretical speeds of 866 Mbps in Wi-Fi 5 (802.11ac) vs 1201 Mbps in Wi-Fi 6 (802.11ax). This is theoretical so never reached. In reality, you gain between 50 to 140mbps with wifi 6 over wifi 5 on these devices.
one question, if I have a mesh alien in my living room with my PC, can i connect that mesh alien by using Lan cable? So I have a main alien router connect to my internet cable on the wall, and I have another one alien2 connect to the main alien by air mesh, and my PC connects to alien2 by using the actual cable, what kind of internet speed should I expect on my PC if I have 1000 Mbps internet? thanks.
If you have two alien's connected together meshed using ethernet as what is called a backhaul and your PC is wired via ethernet into either alien, you will see maximum speeds of 1gigabit per second as that's the maximum speed the alien can transfer data. What your actual internet speed will be for you depends on what speed plan you have from your internet provider but the Alien itself is capable of a full 1 gigabit upload and download per second.
Very unlikely. 6e uses 6GHz radio channel. It’s not likely a software update would enable it. Most likely would need new hardware but we are years from 6e being mainstream

Skeptical in all honesty, it’s probably overkill for 25 Mbps speed. There are cheaper options that will get you that speed.
It will only be blazing fast with in your own network, the bottle neck slow down is limited to the internet provider limits / service.
At that speed the benefits I see is the additional smart devices at once and the range.
