Those wildfires must have been so scary. I’ve been really enjoying your channel, love the music you used today!

That soil conditioner looks amazing. I wish they sold something like that where I live in Southwestern Ontario, Canada. I can only find the larger kind of bark mulch, which takes a while to break down & impact the soil. I guess we always want what we don’t have! Lots of intense thunderstorms here too, but no wildfires thankfully. They’re so unpredictable, which must add greatly to the fear you feel. You have my sympathy. I hope that you can enjoy your summer without any close calls this year. 😊

The explanations you give are so helpful! You have a real gift in teaching. Are you a Master Gardener?

I recently found your channel and I am enjoying it so much. I planted 3 butterfly bushes this spring & have had so many pollinators visiting them. I love them.
Your gardens are so inspiring & I learn so much from you. I also have clay soil & it’s very challenging to garden in.

I covered my hydrangea with a sheet during our hot spell, also some of my friends used umbrellas to shade theirs .

@@mardisteffenhagen Great tip! I also did that last summer over trio of hydrangeas, with a large patio umbrella. It made such a difference for those newly planted shrubs! ❤️

Question: why use bark mulch if you're in a fire-prone area? Just curious...here in south central Kansas our upper level winds are bringing in smoke from fires in the northwest. It's very hazy here!

@@cathiechaffin5469 Hi there! Good question! Unfortunately our surroundings are really the threat, not so much my mulch. We’re surrounded on 3 sides of our house by established fir trees, and for thousands of acres beyond that. 😣 I suppose as far as my gardens go, the only thing I could opt to do to help with fire resistance would be to set all the beds away from the house and use a mulch such as gravel nearer the house. Actually, I live near the Oregon Gardens and they have a house on the property with fire resistant landscaping, for display and inspiration. Had I had some idea and motivation way back when, I could have taken their lead and planted as they suggested. 😔

Butterfly bushes are considered invasive and harmful to ecosystems outside of central China. Maybe there is a native species like Oregon Grape you can feature?
