I went to High School with Mel @ Glynn Academy in Brunswick, Georgia. I was in 10th grade & he was a Senior. It was my first year @ Glynn Academy & I had just moved from Omaha, Nebraska. I was a sprinter in Omaha & I'll never forget hearing an announcement over the speakers for home room that Mel ran a 9.4 100 yard dash. My mouth hit the floor. I decided that second I wouldn't try out for the track team, lol. Mel was a great athlete. He was great at Football & Basketball too. He also was a great dancer! I remember being entertained at the High School talent show, with Mel & his friends, performing as the "Lockettes" Mel had some moves & did a mean Robot. Anyway, thanks for putting this up. I love to tell my friends about the best athlete I ever went to school with. Mel didn't know me but I sure knew all about him. He was someone I admired very much in school. I was so bummed when Carter boycotted the Olympics. I was really wanting to see Mel @ the Olympics. Anyway, Mel had a great career. No one can take that away from him.
Thank you for the Memories; I have been looking for these races and the only left is Crystal Palace races in the Rain over 100M.
You are welcome Mel! Respect to a great athlete and Gentleman.

No, Thank you the memories!
I was at that 100m in the rain at Crystal Palace! What year was that @latt996? Earlier than 83 I think?
Very cool video. I've forgot about Mel Lattany. Wish they would run more 300m races.
Very True!
CZcams still waits for the 80 Koblenz showdown after Moscow. The boycotting Americans called Koblenz the real Olympics.
Cologne GP 1980
Mel was an excellent sprinter. Salute brotha.
Thank you
Good upload, thanks. How good might Mel have been had he concentrated on 400m?
I had 400 meter relay duty at UGA. The First 400 meter, I ran at the UGA I broke the School record. I slept for 2 days. LOL ha ha ha ha ha - something never forget. The Pain!!!!!
@@Latt996 Great story hahaha
Funny how the runners in the 1981 Zurich 100 pretty much had average runs when it came to the Golden Sprints in West Berlin held just 2 days later, Allan Wells thrashed them all on combined times over 100 & 200 even though he admitted he wasn't having a great season up to that point. Just to point out the Zurich relay was in 1982.
201081hero Ben Johnson made a lot of improvement from the 1981 Zurich Weltklasse. He must have been 19 at the time and he admitted under oath he started using them shortly after that race. It was clear that he had ability to make it at a world class level naturally. I think his PB would have been around 10.05 drug free.
typo
Wells did not win in 84. I think he won in 1980. US boycott
Wilbur Hoffman Wells made sure he was at his peak on Olympic year.
Berlin was cold, and Well train and love the cold weather, but in World Cup 200 he got beat that day soundly. I was upset the US Team Manager would not let me run the 100 meter and they know Lewis was hurt. It was Bad call
Todd Bennett rip
Ben Johnson looking young and lacking his finishing speed but his start and drive has never changed. A slow start for him in this race
Ben always had great start
This was also 7 years before Seoul
