Nice build man! So nice to see someone else tackling the same annoying little bike repair problems without just buying a heap of new shit and throwing it on. Looking forward to more!
Cheers man i appreciate that! I try to save what I can and if I can’t I will try to replace it with a 2nd hand part. Feels great freshen up old parts and reuse them!
Just finished cleaning up some wack old v-brakes for a gravel build. Tempted to replace them with lighter ones but after all the other BS single-use tools and incompatible old seatposts I bought for this build maybe I'll use em anyway >.
Hahaha tru tru I hate single use tools!!
Aside from another great build, I just want to say I love watching your videos on weekends. It sets the tone and I always find myself tinkering with my bike and or going for a ride. Thanks Gary cheers
Cheers that means a lot thank you!! Glad it puts you in a good mood 👍 have a great weekend ! 😊
you can remove rust from the small bike parts by using a dremel with a circular wire brush attachment, it makes things faster rather than using tin foil.
That will save the fingers for sure !
Drill press buffing wheel is a good idea! Optimising the toolkit headcount there.
Hell ya it helps heaps!
Great to see you remove pedals, crankset and BB on ground on wheels, rather than on flimsy stand (like so many others). Quite possible on a very sturdy workshop quality stand rather than a freestanding home use stand. Great bike. Great era when Bianchi outsourced and used asian frames. Made them competitive somewhat.
Cheers man! Yeah I find it easier this way haha, I only really used the stand for setting up the gears 👍 thank you! Yes frame seems well made, and pretty solid!
Leather and shoe makers use rubber contact cement. You apply it to both sides, let dry , then stick them together. It sticks to itself tenaciously and instantly on contact.
Get yourself a box of disposable latex gloves, the solvents in those chemicals, greases and oils are absorbed by the skin and have to be delt with by your internal organs.
Edit, I see you have the gloves , but didn't always use them when you should.
Cheers mate thanks for the info ! I will be sure to wear the gloves more often !
This sanded place looks avesome! If i work with my scott sawtoth, i make's all rusty places looks like this! Elegant rat 😁
Haha cheers mate ! Ya quite happy with how the sanded area turned out , looks pretty cool too I think
new fav channel
Ayyy thx u my dude
it is actually possible to take apart sealed bottom brackets, clean and re-lube them, RJ the bike guy on youtube has a video on the exact procedure, cheers mate!
Great to know cheers ! I actually just did one but was only able to get off one side haha , will need to do more research!
I just love the handlebar suspension it's different and looks really cool 😎 👌🏾
Thanks man me too! Also so fun!!
Great video first one where you describe which way the bearings face on the headset thank you!!
hahah thank you , sometimes i forget to explain stuff because i think people already know but good to know it helps people!!
absolutely freakin flipping awesome build mate ..... deb is all over me know for a Bianchi of her own just like this one hahahahahahah ... keep up the great content mate.
Hahah cheers mate ! Better get on it then 😂😂😂
Nice build! I have a Bianchi ocelot, same era. Love, love, love that bike! rebuilt it many times. Current edition is a 1x8 commuter with all sealed bearings and Fincci urban tires.
Cheers Steve i appreciate that ! Yes they are great bikes super solid and can build them up to whatever you need! Your bike sounds cool cheers!
Love your videos man, so relaxing. Also you build really cool bikes.
Cheers I appreciate that! means a lot thank you!! 🙏 😊😊
Perfect color match on the tire sidewalls, and quite clever as well ! Thanks for another great video and bike build !
Thank you Peter, I appreciate that! The color matched pretty well indeed, got lucky with it. Cheers!!
@@garysprojects those white marks aren't age defects; they are part of the tyre construction.
Oh I see thank you
Cool cool bike!
Thank you !
1X are my favorite setups. I do that to almost all second hand bikes I buy
Hell ya ! Def cleans it up a bit
The piano song at the end somehow took me back to the 90s. And looked at the title of the video again.. make sense! intentionally or not. Anyways, the bike look awesome👏
Hahah I think the song suited well! Glad you like it cheers !!
I'm 42 miles away from Santa Cruz I've been to that store a couple of time it's still a business. Wow. Lol.
Hahah wow that’s crazy, well the bike is here all the way in Australia !
Looking at the bike it looks like a lot of fun, a nice combination of parts. Great build👍
Thank you Glenn! Super fun ride for sure Cheers!
Cool build yet again. Appreciate the hard work putting out these vids. 🤙
Thanks man glad you like it!! Cheers! 🙏
Cleaned up nice. I think it would look great with some fat smoothies too.
Cheers ! Ya that would be sick! Good for commuting
Nice job Gary. I'm looking at a similar Bianchi Alante now. I like the CroMoly lugged frames.
Thank you Jason! They are nice frames 👍
i think the black stuff from the bottle cage mounts is from a spray can someone kept in the cage, and it leaked or dripped onto the frame lol
on my daily 1x7, i reupholstered my saddle since the vinyl on it was peeling really bad, used an old free brown leather purse (looks way more expensive than it is!).
used a similar narrow-wide deckas chainring flipped backwards, was glad to find it so cheap.
Oh yeah that could be it ! Nice always good to save an old saddle! Great to be able to get things running on the cheap 👍👍👍
Still doing awesome bikes with interesting parts that the most eyes haven’t been seen before…keep doing it👍🏻😎Hopefully I’ll get into bike building when the weather is more friendly again☀️😃Cheers, Achim
Haha yes I will try my best!! Interesting parts are fun to try out !! Hope the weather is better soon so that you can enjoy bikes, Cheers !
Good job recomended
Thank you 🙏 😊
Another awesome build, thanks!
Thank you mate I appreciate that !
I've always been averse towards suspension stems but you made it damn cool to look at. Awesome build by the way! Would take this rat bike over anything brand new.
Cheers man I appreciate that!! Haha yes turned out to be a “nice” rat bike, always happens 😂
That handlebar stem is the mutts nuts!
Hahah yesss I’m into it! Soooo fun !
Hi. Instead to buy not cheap pedro's bb socket holder you can use screw with a fine thread. Pease!
True! You can use a bolt washers and and a spring if you have one laying around 👍
I have the same sickness as you. Great video. Cheers mate.
Hahaha yesssss , makes me feel better 😂 cheers!
ma man..never fails. Another clean build
Hahah ayyy cheers buddy
That Vaporust must be great for your hands
Yes! All natural
DUDE, 10:16 that bike frame has a "Bicycle Trip" sticker on it, which is a shop in my home town of Santa Cruz Ca. I recognized the logo with the Gecko and the last four of the phone number and took a closer look. What are the odds of that?
damn that is soooo crazy! such a small world huh. someone musta brang it over from there
i got the same chain breaker lol. It was part of a specialized tool kit that fell apart on me. i use two pliers for leverage works great
Hahah I feel your pain , I need to get a new one but once I use this one I forget 😂
Great video man.
Thank you my dude!
Thanks for the video bro
Thank you for watching !!
Nice build, looks cool with that stem. I think a 7 speed is perfect for casual
Cheers mate I appreciate, I dig the stem too. Yep 7 speed is nice for around town , I consider making this single speed too, but didn’t have semi horizontal drops, so went with the 7 👍
Excellent build, really enjoy it! Maybe next time you can check if there are cracks in the frame by getting some light between the tubes.
Cheers I appreciate that!! That’s a good idea, I actually did that the green sleeper bike build I did haha, I guess I was satisfied with this one so didn’t bother. Good tip though ! 👍
I have the same exage crankset. I actually like the look of it a lot.
Hell ya ! It’s a goodie, pretty solid
Ahhhh yes 26 is quite versatile! And can run thick tyres. Pretty good !
Luv your intros 🎉
Hahaha awesome! Thank you Scott 😊
Super nice
cheers my dude i appreciate that!
I'll be the first to say that it was a cool project, just excited about it in advance)
hahah thank you my dude i appreciate that!!
Great skills in the clean and rebuild, just wondering if you apply grease on qr skewer or not?
Cheers man I appreciate that! I honestly can’t remember, but a thin coat is good 👍
nice bike
Thank you mate 😊
What you need is a dremel and a sonic cleaner. That's what I'm working on purchasing next.
Hahah yes!! Would love both of those things, would come in handy
So sick
Cheers Daniel!
Epic!!!
Thx g!
Very clean build! Great craftsmanship. I am thinking about doing a similar 1x set up on an old MTB as well, but your lowest gear doesn’t look very low at all, how is it for climbing??
Cheers mate! The gearing isn’t too bad at all for climbing because of the long stem, puts your weight over the front more
@@garysprojects ahh okay you can sort of kick your way uphill that makes sense. I think imma go fer it!
Been checking out your channel, you've got some sweet builds man! I love your taste and your quality standards!
@@ErrybodyGetTypsy thanks mate that means a lot thank you for taking the time !!
Tell us how to deal with worn wheel rims ? Or what to do when rim walls are not flat any more ?
Have to replace them I think
Any thought on suspension stem with Moth bar style handlebars..?
I thought about it but might not be good because it would increase the side flex 🤔
Sweet build, as always :). I'm riding the Deckas cheap Narrow-Wide chainrings on several bikes for years now and they hold up really well. Would definitely recommend them. Well besides the weird graphics, but I guess thats just a small "downside" ;).
Keep up the good work!
Cheers man good to hear!! I realised I bought a similar ring in 4 bolt for my Kona and it’s holding up well too!! Thank you my dude will do my best!
the graphics should come off with nail polish remover - at least that's what I've been told
Ahh yes acetone , it only works if the graphics are painted vs laser etched
Keren ini bro, tapi menurut saya yang kurang suka stem bersuspensi kurang nyaman untuk handling
Cheers mate ! Ya suspension stems are so wild ! 😝
@@garysprojects tapi stem suspensi punya sensasi tersendiri 😁👍🔥
With something unusual like the suspension stem, do you ever forget how to reassemble it and have to check your own recording to figure it out? 😅
Not for this one funny enough! This one wasn’t too complex as it had different size bolts for all the parts. But ya photos/ video always helpful just incase !
WD-40 should sponsor your channel at this point
Hahah I wish
I've had a few bikes were the headset cups have come out by hand. No play in them ! I wonder if it is a manufacture issue? Good to work on though. Nice build!
Yeah super strange! Cheers man I appreciate it! 😊
Why aren't you using housing ends? It'll improve the function and longevity of the braking and shifting performance
I stopped using them when I first started because I didn’t have any and then I didn’t notice the difference so never bothered since. I try to finish my ends pretty clean with a files so maybe that helps. Maybe I’ll try them again in the future!
@@garysprojects You can probably get away with it on coiled brake housing. But if you use compressionless derailleur housing the ends keep the strands from exploding outwards and punching through the stops on the frame. Things will obviously "work" temporarily but long term its going to make for a less reliable bike. If you're going to the trouble of re-doing the cables and housing why not add a couple cents worth of housing ends right?
@@MrJonas2255 true! I haven’t had any trouble even for my oldest bike (3years) but ya good point! maybe I’ll grab a pack , can’t be too expensive !!
Contact cement is better than hot glue when repairing bike saddle
Cool! Why’s that ?
@@garysprojects i tried hot glue but it did not last long so instead i use contact cement
@@mmbatrider2 nice! Is it easy to work with ? How long before it dries ?
@@garysprojectsi accelerate it with hair drier and to soften the leatherette aswell
@@mmbatrider2 ahh good technique thanks
the evaporust looks like orange juice in this vid
Hahah def does
Where are you finding is the best place to get bike parts in Melbourne?
Fb marketplace 👍👍
Are the the oury lizard grips on that bike? I have some in blue on one of my bikes. I can't believe I get existed about handlebars, grips, pedal handlebars, and everything else Gary 😅
Hahah nice, these were the grips that were in the bike so not too sure what brand they are! Cheers Rory!
I have those exact grips at home, they were like 2 dollars and only branding on them says Made in china😅
@@komoonkh hahah nice!!
damn - so purty
Cheers Carson i appreciate that ! 🙏💕😊
Hey Gary, how's the Deckas holding up?
I sold the bike already but it was holding up good until I sold it. I have another one on my Kona chute and it’s been a year also already and still going strong 💪
@@garysprojects cool, planning to get some of those 110’s. Thanks mate!
No worries ! Cheers
How did this bike end up in Australia from California?
Honestly no idea!!
Comment algorithm compliance
Thank you 💕🙏😂
@@garysprojects From what I understand comments help your channel on CZcams’s algorithm. Sometimes I just just don’t have anything to add. I love your channel either way! Thanks for the content
@@chesterossa yes I think they help! Thank you I appreciate it !! 🙏🙏🙏😊😊 cheers
Another excellent project completed! Looks bad a$$ed
Hahah cheers Brad i appreciate that !!
I just stumbled upon this video, and it's mostly a nice job on the bike, but I have a couple of issues. The piece of cable housing leading to the rear derailleur is rather long, and what's with cleaning the factory lubrication off a brand new chain? No, absolutely, no! It's on there for a reason, and that's the best it will ever be.
Thank you I appreciate that! Let me explain, the factory grease is sticky and to protect the chain, it is thicker and only to protect the chain for storage /rust / transportation. It is not made to be used for performance. If you did use it , so much dust & dirt would stick to it after the first ride, thus ruining your chain - hope that clears things up. Cheers !
49:13 can't go out with it loaded n dirty
Hahah trueee
dope ! gary its shaun yo, would you want to try a 3d printed bash gaurd??? shoot me a message !
Ayyy cheers mate!! Sounds interesting! I won’t say no if you wanna ship it to aus 💕🙏
So you can just throw the whole derailleur in the juice, spray some wd, and it's good to go?!?!
Hahaha that’s basically it!! I guess you can do a few drops of lube in the pivot points and the jockey wheels but yeah 😂
@@garysprojects cheers, mang! Appreciate your reply and your videos!
@@bhotsnax 🙏🙏💕💕😊😊
Be safe and wear a helmet.
thank you i appreciate that
butchered that tyre change transition, ha ha. shouldve gone to the old bianchi shop on the corner in carlton
Thank you 🤣🤣🤣
Is the shop still there? On lygon st right ?

Hahah yes u can
