Stuff we use:
LENS - Most people ask us what camera we use, no one ever asks about the lens which filmmakers always tell us is more important. This lens was a big investment for us and one we wish we could have made sooner. Started using this lens at the end of 2013 - amzn.to/2tbtmOq
AUDIO
Rode VideoMic Pro - The Rode mic helps us capture our backup audio. It also helps us sync up our audio in post amzn.to/2t1n2hx
Audio Recorder - If we had to do it all over again, this is probably the first item we would have bought - amzn.to/2tbFlM9
LIGHTS - Although we like to use as much natural light as we can, we often enhance the lighting with this small portable light. We have two of them and they have saved us a number of times - amzn.to/2u5UnHv
COMPUTER - Our favorite computer, we each have one and have used various models since 2010 - amzn.to/2t1M67Z
EDITING - We upgraded our editing suite this year and we’re glad we did! This has improved our workflow and the quality of our work. Having new software also helps when we have a problem, it’s easy to search and find a solution - goo.gl/56LnpM

Writing, especially within fiction, is most definitely cathartic. It’s how I’m able to keep myself together even during my worst days.
I have some "type of characters" that I could write for years, and I think is because I feel them... and putting it on paper helps coping with them... does that make sense?
@@pirate-life it does; let’s DM so we can discuss what kinda characters we write when coping with life’s struggles
Strel?

One thing I do in my novels is take an experience I've had, one in which I couldn't say or do what I wanted to for fear of getting hit, and having a similar experience occur to my protagonist and allow my protagonist to say or do exactly what she wants.
His most useful comments start around 8 minutes in, when he starts talking about writing what you love vs following trends. Up till then, nothing useful, mostly questions that didn't seem well suited to what he has to offer. Once he starts getting into balancing what you love with what will sell, he's clearly on his game and talking about what he knows quite well.
The final minute has some of his best, most useful comments. Good video! :)
THANKYOU!
Seriously thank you. Coz I was thinking it’s gonna be hard to get through this video lol
Thanks for your comment, because at 4 minutes, I paused the video to have a look at the comments. I was wondering whether his 'lecture' was going anywhere. I'll resume the video now, :)
Sometimes it feels like interviews from Film Courage reinforce conformity, like how to get into the business or how to crack this or that formula. Helpful, yes. But THIS guy! This is refreshing and sooo helpful in a much more important way. What this guy is saying about writing what you know instead of reacting to trends or formulas is big picture and I believe will help creators remain creators over the long haul. More content like this, please! This guy’s perspective is super healthy!
And give this poor guy a cup of coffee next time you interview him! :)
It's ironic in a way that so many speak of trying to be original, when simply being yourself makes you original. Not in the sense that your personality is incomparable to everyone ells, but that by focusing on what inspires and drives you, you begin to shape your own path.
Being yourself makes you original, yes, but we live in a world in which the ironic thing is that people tell you to be yourself then proceed to tell you what you can and can't say, how you should and shouldn't act, what's offensive and what isn't, etc.
Watching this has been the best 16 minutes I've spent in a long time. He articulated being true to yourself, and using that to fuel and hone the craft of storytelling...perfectly. Well done. Thank you for posting this.
Glad you enjoyed it! Thanks for watching Casey!
what i take from what he says here: don’t try to game the system of screenwriting. get good at writing what you feel passionate about, then something good might happen.
Peter Katz: _"Until you're dead, you have time"_ Yep.
This is soooooo on point.
It’s your art at the end of the day. You do what you want with it. No one else knows it best other than yourself.
This guy is very cool. Subdued but right on the money. Film Courage: come for the glamour, stay for the life wisdom.
dang much love, i love this video, so much authenticity and sincere answers from Peter. be your true self
“We have time… Until you’re dead, you have time. So you should focus on becoming the most YOU version as a creator.”
Do more with this guy

I admit that there are some days when the ONLY thing holding me together are Film Courage videos.
I think the pressure of how to break in and what is sellable or popular is why we all get so discourage. Time was always my thing. Haven't written screenplays for many years but in my late 30's just now moving to L.A. I would beat myself up thinking that time is running out. I see so many youngsters on twitter say they have sold this or option that. They got a job at this studio or promotion here and it's like what am I doing wrong? Why is it that I've been at this craft for over two decades and the only thing I have to show for it is a bunch of scripts and CZcams videos no one watches.
I needed to hear this today.
The musical version of this advice came from Duke Ellington: write what you hear
Amazing. needed to hear this
This guy one or two joints in for the talk🔥
This is such a great video, I feel like every content creator of any kind needs to hear this
Great interview
How do you match up questions to interviewees? Do they choose the questions? It seems like these weren't really fitting for him (the meta question, for example, was embarrassing to hear him respond to).
I wonder if the questions are submitted to the interviewees beforehand, so they can adequately prepare their answers. It doesn't sound like it.
When are the new videos with this gentleman coming on film courage? Thanks.
Loved his illustration of Frankenstein
Ultimately it comes down to one thing: MONEY.
Dose anyone know any good action, cop, gangster, jewel thief, horror books or books with twists to get ideas for movies?
@William Flynn James Elroy writes really good books about police and crime in the 50’s. His most successful film adaptation is L.A. Confidential ( which is a great film in my opinion).
It is not a book but look up the story of thief Carlos Hector Flomenbaum.
Good luck to you! 😀
Exactly 💯

No one goes to #drimen the great spell caster on You Tube for a love spell and comes back disappointed... I can testify and vouch for him that he made my relationship the sweetest.. so much love from me
modern movies are just govenment propaganda -> FACT but there is a bonus to be gained from that: i save moneis not watching obvious propaganda 👍 YAY WIN!
You say modern movies are just government propaganda. What's your cutoff? When was the last film you watched that wasn't propaganda, as you call it?
This is a bunch of crap
Say the one who don't understand anything of the video
Irony haha
