I was a kid when the Wizard of Oz dolls were in happy meals. I loved them, especially the witch.
Thank you for watching and sharing your thoughts on them!
The Wizard of Oz dolls were fantastic. And kids who didn’t know who they were needed a better education. Every American child should know these uniquely American stories!
Same!! That’s the one I got too
They look like collector items. Very cool to me.
I loved them too! I wish I knew where mine were now tho :/
When I was a kid I was obsessed with the Madame Alexander Wizard of Oz dolls
Thank you for watching and sharing your memories!
SAME hahaa
Me too! My mom didn't want me to collect them for some reason, so I snuck over the the local McDonalds and got a Happy Meal after school. I eventually ended up collecting all of them, and about half of them ended up disappearing one day. They were actually some of my favorite toys when I was younger.
Nooo all the ones that came out
How old are you, I remember those as a adult
I remember MCDonalds most successful happy meal toys, which were the Ty Mini Beanie Babies.
Those were some great ones. Thank you for watching and sharing your memories!
And the California Raisins!
I had like a billion of those things
I wish they did that again. I'm an adult but still would get them. I like any of the stuffed animals they do.
The Hot Wheels ones were always popular. I don't know if the Barbies that came out along side them were as popular.
That plastic bag hand puppet dates back from way before Happy Meals. It was exciting to get one because it was rare to give out anything to kids. Usually when you went, you got nothing but your food. Restaurants rarely ever had kids menus and they certainly weren't giving out prizes. Those only came at the bottom of a box of cereal! Fun fact- the McDonalds near us was a test market for the original happy meal in the late 70s. They were called Fun-to-Go meals and were thin like briefcases ( just wide enough for fries & a burger on it's side) and your prize was either a bag of McDonaldland cookies or an eraser either shaped like a high top sneaker or a race car.
Agree!
yeah kids now are ungratful craps so all of these toys in the video are awesome liek teh et poster!!
Wow!
Yes, yes, YES Regina!! Spot on! I posted similarly above before I read the comments. My brother and I were very entertained and appreciative. Only issues was pulling the puppets back off our sweaty hands in the hot car lol!
How about all the restaurants that gave out those cheap ass knock off crayons 🖍 to kids to keep them entertained while we waited 3 hours for a burger or pizzia. Maybe they lasted six seconds before the point broke off and shattered into multiple pieces.
I used to work for McDonald's in the early 1990s. The most popular Happy Meal toys were the plastic Barbie Dolls. They had six dolls in different colored dresses and hairstyles, and many young girls wanted them for their collection. I remember many mothers and daughters coming into the restaurant and paying for all six dolls, not the meal. I had to make multiple trips to the stockroom to find each of them in several large boxes. On the cash register, it was called a Happy Box that included the Happy Meal Box and the toy.
Thank you for watching and sharing some of what was popular when you were working there. I could definitely see those Barbie's being popular.
I am a adult and collect them. I still have them. Barbie was my best friend. Too bad we grow up
I distinctly remember these Barbie dolls and was excited to go back and collect a different one. 😆
I remember getting happy meals in 89-90. The toys were a plastic hamburger or all the nuggets, or a McShake. They were in a package that had to be opened to put on the decals.
I worked next door at a competing pizza place.
When I left work I would stop at McDonald’s.
I never opened them. I wish I knew where they were.
I still have one.
The Madame Alexander Happy Meal dolls were just miniature versions of the current line of dolls the company had in their line. They were more of a collectors item, like the full sized dolls. It’s one of the few Happy Meal toys that weren’t complete junk.
When i was little they had a gardening kit with small shovels and seeds. This would never go down now.
I do remember those. The shovel and rake were plastic and really weren't functional. Now days many kids don't have the patience for seeds to grow. Thank you for watching and sharing your memories!
Probably my favorite was when they gave out small Lego kits. Great because they could be added to your other Lego bricks.
That is true about those and they were good ones to get. Thank you for watching!
Came to say this too!
I have some nice toys collected from McDonald's over the years. Most of these I agree with you but the dolls are wonderful and not creepy at all.
Thank you for watching and sharing your thoughts!
I loved collecting the dolls so I could cut their hair. It was always fun to see which one I got.
The McDonald's Madame Alexander Dolls are hot sellers at flea markets.
"Kids want a Happy meal ,not a hygiene meal" Rhetty says 😂😂😂😂
Thank you for watching!
I read that at the exact same time he said it 😂
@@stevew2192 😂😂😂😂🙌
I laughed
The E.T. movie had a re-release in theaters in 1985, so having posters at McDonald's again is not so crazy after all. Remember the VHS release of E.T. did not even come until Oct 1988, a full 6 years after it first debuted in theaters. Things were done differently back then.
I do remember the late release on VHS but I do not remember the re-release of the movie in theaters. Thank you for watching and sharing that.
Surprised they didn't put an Atari 2600 E.T. game cartridge in every happy meal... Atari had a whole landfill full of em... but to be honest, if they did that, they would be sad meals.
80s kid here, I remember the plastic bag puppets. I don’t recall them ever being HM toys, they would fill these bags with handi-wipes and a few other items and attach them to the high chairs for parents to use. The puppet was supposed to entertain a baby/toddler, I guess. I actually liked the Popoids, they were just fun to stretch out.
I feel like the worst HM toys are most everything from 2019-now. I have kids now, and the toys are mostly junky, plastic figures that don’t do anything, with the exception of a little lever that jiggles an arm, or something.
My all-time favorite Happy meal toys were the changeables.
I had the fries, Big Mac, and egg
McMuffin
Wendy's had the go-bots around the same time. My golden age of giveaways
Hard to find today!
Those were popular ones! Thank you for watching!
And my daughter absolutely fell in love with those wizard of Oz dolls we made sure she had the whole set she's 25 now and she still has them and she still loves them for her it actually took some of the fear out of some of the scenes in the original movie because now it made them look cute
How about a story on the history of Cracker Jack surprise toys and how they've REALLY cheapened out on them in the last couple of years!!
There not even toys. It's just a sticker now.
@@zSpirall IKR??!
The last COUPLE of years? More like the last three decades.
YEAH! Such a disappointment
@@zSpirall I'm pretty sure they've just been stickers since the late 90's I think I got a little plastic toy a couple times at an Indians game as a kid.
My son was so in love with the Nugget Buddies toys from the late 80s. I swear we were there every day just buying the toys lol. He played with them for such a long time it was worth every penny. I loved the sturdy round drinking glasses and I wish they would bring them back. They were kind of heavy at the bottom, so my cats couldn't knock them over and they exactly held a can of coke with a bit of ice. We had Mickey, Shrek and Baltimore Orioles. I will always grab those glasses when I see them at a thrift store.
Nugget buddies were very fun 😃
I predated Happy Meals, but I remember those plastic hand puppets. I didn't think they were too bad, but then I was never expecting a toy. They just gave those out to kids.
They did give out things more freely than they do know. Some thing happened with some bibs too. Thank you for watching Joe!
@@RhettyforHistory I remember the gloves. I can remember sitting in the corner of table at the window opening the box and taking it out and being like "WTF is this??"
Agree!
The bibs were great too! 💗 Had arm holes and actually kept the little ones clean enough during their meal.
They didn't stop using him because of the clown scare, they stopped using him well before that because he was losing his appeal. Using mascots to get kids to eat fast food no longer worked as it once did and McDonald's didn't want that to be their image anymore.
That's so true. After the whole super size me debacle they realized it was just bad PR to market garbage food towards kids. Honestly I'm surprised kids meals with toys is even still a thing. You still some happy meal commercials now and then
All the Mcdonalds in my area are either all grey, beige, brown, or green at best. Most of them used to be bright red. So, that makes a lot of sense to me as it seems they're trying to be more formal now?
When was this "clown scare"?
Um actually it's because Ronald Mcdonald is white, so he stands for racial injustice and white supremecy. So they didn't want to use him anymore.
@@ass_terism It's the same with every fast food place now, they all look generic.
I loved the Madam Alexander dolls 😂
They did multiple collections over the years, not just a single run of Wizard of Oz dolls. And Wizard of Oz is timeless. If you don’t know what it is, you’ve truly been living under a rock.
And TBH, those sunglasses are aesthetic as f*ck!
@@AllyBentin Was probably a Disney characters collab, so it’s likely.
I'd say I loved their Mickey Mouse heavy glassmugs. I collect Mickey Mouse stuff so I made special effort to call ahead to the restaurant to be sure they had the next edition. Course you had to pay 3.00 a piece in addition to a happy meal but I still have those glasses on display today in my outdated home decor lol.Welch's jelly jars had a mickey mouse series as well and I'm missing #4,5,and 6 so if you have any of those holler at me lol
McDonalds really had some great Glass mugs and glasses over the years. I haven't seen them do that in a long time. Thank you for watching and sharing your memories.
I think I might start collecting those too,
Try being back in the 1970s prior to happy meals. Kids were not disappointed not getting a toy when they went to a burger joint. But, in 2nd grade twice a year the entire elementary school got to pre-order and pre-pay for a McDonald meal. For $1 you could get a burger, fries and orange drink. We were happy then. And no toys.
Thank you for watching and sharing your memories Sue!
Sue M, I was a 70s kid too. At our school, we got Shamrock Shakes for St. Patrick's Day.☘️
Sue M, I, too, was a chid in the 70s. Several years ago, one of my childhood friends said, “You were always happy with whatever you got”. I told her, “I think if I had sat in a pigpen, I would’ve found something to be happy about!”. She agreed.
I remember McDonald’s Day. They had it into at least 1986 at the Catholic school I went to in Missouri from kindergarten until 2nd grade.
Rather not 😂
The greatest happy meal toy for me was getting a hot wheels car! Even the happy meal box got bad. In the late 70’s to early 80’s when I would get one, I could stare at the happy meal box when it had puzzles and pictures on it plastered all over it. Now they are just plain.
Those hot wheels were a great toy. There really haven't been many as good as that. You're right about the boxes being entertaining. Cereals were like that too. Thank you for watching and sharing your memories!
One of the greats was the set of McDonald’s food transformers. There was an ice cream cone, burger, I think a nugget box. I played with the ice cream cone.
Those were definitely good ones. Thank you for watching and sharing a little more!
I have the fries still amd the big mac!
Absolutely all time best toys ever!💗💗💗
Arguably their best ones ever
I recall those horrible hand puppets used to be on high chairs in the restaurants. Just what you want to give a toddler - a plastic bag.
I love some of the Madame Alexander dolls; they did a bridal party series once. I have the bride and groom on my wedding shelf. I also love the teeny Beanie Babies.
Not terrible; the opposite actually. My sister and I got these plastic boats…the meals came in them and afterward you had the plastic boats left to play with. Those suckers were durable! We had them for at least 4 or 5 summers and used them constantly. That and the Halloween buckets(the originals not the new ones)were probably the best toys ever from McDonald’s.
I was so excited fornthe relaunch of the halloween buckets. I raced to mcds to get them for my kids this yr n i was disappointed. They didnt even have lids..just a crappy piece of flimsy card board. Kids liked them tho.
I remember those toys. Unfortunately, my family didn't go to McDonald's often. When they had the muppet baby toys in the 80s, I had to have all four. My dad told all his friends at work to get happy meals when they got food there. I had almost three complete sets. Loved those toys.
As kids, we didn't go to McD's often, so I don't have memories of the toys. About the only time we went was when my mom wanted to collect the themed glasses, but you had to pay separate for those.
Alot of these were definitely undesirable and ended up in the trash, Which, ironically makes them rare today. I bet there is a collector out that would like to get some of these.
Tons of households had those themed glasses. They were very popular. Thank you for watching and sharing your memories!
I remember those Popoids toys. My parents did keep going back, and I had enough pieces to make a laser gun - though I had to tell everyone it was a laser gun, so I guess it wasn't as impressive looking as it looked in my head.
I was born just after Happy Meals debuted. I remember the plastic hand puppets. We had McDonald’s Day at my school in the mid-80s, but I remember not really liking hamburgers then, and you couldn’t get McNuggets. One of my older brother’s still has a few boxes of toys from when he worked there in the early to mid-90s. My favorite toys were the plush ones from the movies and tv, but I think those were extra. I still have my Muppet Christmas Babies. McDonald’s did have great holiday commercials.
I never had a McDonalds Day in school so that is really cool! I also think it's great your brother still has some toys from when he worked there. Some of those could be worth money. Thank you for watching and sharing some of your memories Lisa!
My fav happy meal toy was snoopy chilling on his doghouse. Another one I remember playing with a lot was the sheep girl from Toy Story. Aaah memories!
Thank you for watching and sharing your memories with us!
I remember it wasn't in a Happy Meal but you could buy a McD's calendar to color in the late 70's/early 80's. It was a yearly calendar that could be hung on a wall. I also remember kids could spend a big wheel inside the store to win prizes like a box of McDonaldland cookies featuring all the store characters.
Thank you for watching and sharing some of your memories. It really is interesting to think about how calendars were such a big deal at one time. They are just about something of the past.
I love those McDonaldland cookies, I wish they would bring them back.
The Batman Forever glass mugs in 95 were surprisingly awesome for a Mcds idea.
I can believe kids might not have been excited but I collected all the Wizard of Oz dolls. I think they're absolutely brilliant!
I loved my Fraggle Rock McDonald's toys..also the Christmas muppet babies mini stuffed animals
I had a lot of the Muppets glasses. Eventually they all broke but I sure loved them. Thank you for watching and sharing what you enjoyed!
Yes, but I just have Red :(
As a kid who loved the wizard of oz growing up I loved the little figurines. i had several of them.
Thank you for watching and sharing what you had!
I loved some of these! The Wizard of Oz dolls, the Michael Jordan stuff, the Skydancers, and those character glasses are really neat!
I remember going to McDonald's just to get the Beanie Babies for my kid. I haven't eaten at McDonald's since then.
Those were super popular toys to get. Thank you for watching and sharing a memory Gregg
I think one of the best toys that Adults took over was the Ty beanie babies. I remember hearing about it on TV an I think (not sure here) it was in the Newspaper's too. We just didn't really take the kids to McDonald's. Didn't have the money for one an Hubby worked long hour's. I think we took the kids maybe 1 or 2 times when they were young. We took the Grandkids alot as it was a good place for them to play indoors espically during rainy days an or Summer sometimes during the winter but the Trip down Memorie Lane was fun. Thank you. Some toys I remember from TV others never saw them.
Those were Beanie Babies were a big hit in Happy Meals. That was one of the great ones. Thank you for watching and sharing your memories!
You are right. The adults loves them too. Every single McDonald's for miles and miles around us were completely sold out. Couldn't find them anywhere. As a kid. I was very upset lol
I loved those Madame Alexander dolls when they came out! I have a couple in storage boxes still lol
I'm glad I got to experience the large outdoor playground McDonald's used to have growing up. Big Mac tower/slide, rocking French fry characters, automatic merry go round, slide into ball pit, all gated in and a ground cover of astro turf. Sometimes they would have to shut the playground down for a few hours when somebody's weak stomach child threw-up on the slide 🤮. Weeeee. 🤗 🤣
Those old pieces of playground equipment really were the best. It was sad to see them fo. Thank you for watching and sharing your memories!
Loved the old outside play areas! Grimace was always my favorite and riding on the burger was a blast!
You should do a vid on how every 15 years or so McDonald's tears down most of their restaurants to update the style. It's a waste of both money and resources, but they do it. Personally I think the best style that really archetyped them was the style they had in the late 70s/early 80s.
I had one by me that was torn down just to be rebuilt like 30 yards away. The main road it was on and the intersections nearby were evolving and it would draw more traffic for them to be on the other side of the street so they just up and moved.
I agree! They look like soulless prisons now!
Going into a McDonald’s these days is a sterile disappointment. Horrible environment. Or lack of. Too loud crapy music. Its a told bust. I will say the 70s/80’s was a fun experience.
When I tried to explain to my kids McDonald’s used to be a fun place to grab a meal as a kid back in the 70s and 80s they look at me like I just stepped off another planet. Sad really.
Maybe the Corporate monkeys should pay a visit to the individual restaurants. See how dull they are. Sad.
Its called "moving with the times" & it really does make a difference
I had a bunch of the Madam Alexander ones, including the Wicked Witch. We used it in my school's production of the musical!
Can't believe they stopped using Ronald McDonald as a mascot. 🙄❄️
It is a little strange because he has been around for so long. Thank you for watching!
I never liked him. But it´s strange when things change......
I have to be honest and say that I fall to understand why so many people these days are afraid of clowns. Pennywise is fictional and the fact that John Wayne Gacy was a clown isn't enough incentive because a serial killer could be of any number of professions. I wonder sometimes how many people actually are afraid of clowns and how many are pretending to be so they don't get weird looks for saying they like clowns
I've never understood the fear of clowns or of dolls. There have been some statistical studies done showing that about 1/3rd of Americans are afraid of clowns. I have met people that are but it seems strange still. Thank you for watching Jeffrey!
I remember in the early-mid 2000s McDonalds had these beanie baby bears designed to look like their characters. My grandparents took me to McDonald’s because I wanted the grimace one (purple is my favorite color). Imagine my disappointment when I opened up my happy meal to find not a beanie baby, but a pack of Mickey D’s themed cards (cant remember what kind exactly). Worst happy meal toy ever
Dude, I LOVED that teeny little camping gear! Who was actually expecting to use it in Yosemite??
Their Halloween McNugget Buddies were cool. So was their 1995 Power Ranger Movie figures with Ninja Megazords.
They really have had some great toys over the years. I think a lot of people loved those little nuggets. Thank you for watching Scott!
@@RhettyforHistory
The McNugget Halloween commercials from late 80s/90s are still fun to watch.
I remember when I was really title, like 4 and going to the McDonald’s by my house. They had the outdoor playground equipment with the characters on them. And fake green grass. And surrounded by a short black iron fence.
I remember receiving a bath sponge a couple of times. I actually liked using them though.
Thank you for watching and sharing a memory.
I remember a lot of those toys. Thanks for that walk down memory lane.
You're welcome and thank you for watching Carol!
I don’t remember any of these. My daughter’s favorite HM toys were the small Ty plush toys. She is 25 and we still have all of them, stored of course.
I’m 22 and I remember those small Ty plushies, definitely a highlight of my time visiting McDonalds.
Those beanie babies were really popular! Thank you for watching and sharing your memories as well as what your daughter has.
I remember getting the Madame Alexander dolls! Really loved them and still have them. Also still have one of the Mighty Ducks pucks. We generally just rolled them around or did like an air hockey kind of thing.
Some of these I remember having and weren’t that bad. Here’s why: Thrift store toys were cheaper, but were often had discoloration, broken, or missing parts so I was happy to have a new little surprise along with my food that I got to open from the sealed bag they came in.
Your profile picture looks like a Skittle
@ Bingles Praise YTP It’s the default one from CZcams but I left it because it looks like a wrongly dyed Skittle as well as an M & M with a typo. Glad you picked up on that!
I remember those plastic bag puppets, pretty sure I got some as the toy of the week or treat of the week. Same with have some fridge picture frame magnets aswell from the weekly toy/treat you could aske for.
I always loved the toys that were tied to kids' movies and TV shows. Every time we went to a McDonald's I was always eager to beg my parents for a specific toy that came with the Happy Meal.
I don't really remember my kids being disappointed in the Happy Meal toys. McDonald's made a killing off of Happy Meals. The disappointment was when they took away the caramel that came with the apples.
I was 8 in 2008 and loved the wizard of Oz toys knew exactly who they were cause it was one of my favorite films cause of how magical and colorful the film was. I think they were made incredibly well compared to the other dolls MCD has put in bags
I'm sure you'll say it somewhere in this video, or someone has, but their worst toy was the one that wasn't in the box when you opened it...
You are 100% correct about that! Thank you for watching!
in the mid 90's I found a junk shop with a large box of happy meal toys cheap. even had the train set. so, many of the things you showed are remembered by me from that. fun vid as always! also, from Texas, did you get bad weather yesterday?
Thank you for watxhing and sharing what you found. Sounds like you hit the jackpot with that find. Some of those could be worth money today. Just depends one what they were and if they were in good condition. We just had rain where I am but I know Idabel, Oklahoma had some horrible weather. Thats not something you really think about there too much.
Bit late to the party here was recommended this video randomly on the front page so decided to take a look brilliant work have a lot to catch up with but am now a new subscriber love the content always so informative yet entertaining you have such a nice voice suited for narration :)
You're not late to the party! Welcome to the channel and I'm glad you are here. I appreciate the kind words as well as you taking the time to watch and comment.
I can think of two (early 90's). The plastic chicken mcnugget friends; and early 91 they re-released toothbrushe, the reason I remember that is we stopped at McDonald's for supper and I got terrible food posining later that night. How appropriate.
Thank you for watching and sharing your memories. The food poisoning would be the worst thing to get. Thank you for watching and sharing your memories!
Your humor and puns are great all throughout the video, Rhetty! I don't know if it made national news, but here in San Francisco, CA there was a big issue with trying to ban the inclusion of toys in the meals some years ago!
Thank you for watching and I'm glad you enjoyed the humor in this one. I did not know about the controversy you mentioned.
@@RhettyforHistory here is a blurb about it. San Francisco's so-called "Happy Meal ban" goes into effect Thursday, but McDonald's has already found a way around it. The ordinance prohibits fast-food restaurants from including free toys with children's meals that don't comply with nutritional standards. McDonald's answer? It will charge 10 cents for the toy.Nov 30, 2011
Your puns are spot on...😂
I'm glad you enjoy them and I appreciate you watching Ed!
@@RhettyforHistory I thought you were gonna use another word instead of "shady" when describing the sunglasses. 😉😁
I can only remember the plastic dolls at the very beginning and the airport, and I loved them both.
I was a kid when the hockey pucks came out!! I totally forgot those existed until just now!! Mind is blown. Memories unlocked.
Dang I remember some of this stuff lol. Star Wars, popouides, camp gear,
Thank you for watching and sharing what you remember.
The only happy meal toys I remember liking were Hot Wheels cars. My most disappointing kid's meal toy experience was actually from Wendy's. They had this series of little toy vehicles that would connect together to make a robot. I wanted that robot so my mom took me to Wendy's for lunch every day to get the toys, even going to the counter for me to ask to swap a duplicate for one I still needed. On what would have been the last day of this collecting spree, Wendy's changed their toys and I never got my robot's right arm.
Willard Scott was the original Ronald, and started here in the D.C. area.
Original "toys" were card weight paper, and folded into airplanes, or a pop-up hat. In 1963, that was a big deal: kids weren't entertained, and had to behave decently.
Those plastic puppets were typically used for babies in high chairs. They were plastic so they could encourage children to eat and they would not get dirty. Cheap does not always mean not useful.
I very rarely ate at McDonald's as a child; there were other burger places located closer to our house.
I do remember one Happy Meal toy, probably from around 1980: it was a sponge shaped like Grimmace (in purple, no less). Even as a child I thought it was pointless.
Thank you for watching and sharing your thoughts and memories!
Oh my gosh the madame Alexander dolls 😮I loved collecting them as a kid. I think those were the more memorable happy meal toys honestly. I had the Dorothy and witch ones from this collection, I especially loved the witch. As an adult collector now, I really wish that I kept them all in better condition… I really miss those things 😢
I remember having one of those glove puppets when I was about 4.
Thank you for watching and sharing your memory of them.
I can remember getting one of the toothbrushes way back in the day when I was very young. I can remember being disappointed at first, but I later ended up really liking the toothbrush. It actually made me want to brush my teeth at night, and I kept it for... far too long.
I remember popoids. They weren't just a McDonald's toy. You buy them in buckets or kits in the toystores, and they were fairly popular. They had a similar appeal as legos, but oriented toward a slightly younger audience. The happy meal kits just added to those collections, just like with legos (the lego happy meal kits were a little more complete than popoid, but still very minimal)
I totally agree the plastic hand puppets and popiod toys were the worst. After the 80s I don’t recall many of the toys after ‘92 since I was too old then to want a happy meal.
Thank you for watching and sharing some of your thoughts and memories!
I left my 1985 ET re-release poster in a hotel room in Niagara Falls on a family vacation. Those posters were rolled. I still wonder who found it. Were they disappointed?
Thank you for watching and sharing your memories of the poster. That's sad you left it behind.
I remember getting happy meals as a kid; They never gave me the cardboard boxes. 😢
Duuuuude, I just went to McD’s two days before Halloween just to get my meal in a bucket. I was up in drive thru talking bout how I’d like the pumpkin, but the ghost would be ok cause it glows. Then they handed me a box. Bro, I was so dang mad!
Worst toy I ever got was a Chick-Fil-A cow shaped dental floss holder. It didn’t even come with dental floss. All my friends went there to eat and I was so excited, but that toy was the worst one I’ve ever gotten in my whole forty years of life thus far
That would be disappointing to not get the bucket. I guess they were so popular they ran out. That dental floss case definitely sounds it would be the worst. Thank you for watching and sharing a little more with us.
I loved those racers from the 80's. You pull the little car back and let go, and it shoots forward. They had the big heads on the small cars. I still have the Hamburgler one!
When I was little I remember when happy meals came out. And the crappy today I remember most is the glove. They also used to have little boxes of tiny chocolate chip cookies or animal crackers in the window to make kids want them. I learnt real fast that the fried apple turnover was much better. Oh how I miss the fries that were fried in lard. Aka beef tallow.
My first job was at McD's in 1980. I still miss those cookies!
Thank you for watching and sharing some of your thoughts and memories!
That toothbrush would be the last thing you would think about after eating chicken nuggets and dipping them with sugary honey or bbq sauce. Then washing it down with a Coca Cola. The book sounds like it's shaming the child for eating food bad for you.
Thank you for watching and sharing your thoughts on some of these.
Oh, man… instant flashback! I remember getting one of those cheap hand puppets! They were every bit as disappointing as said in the video! This had to be in the late 70’s, so apparently they were still being used then.
Thank you for watching and sharing some of your memories and thoughts on the hand puppets.
I’m pretty sure I actually still have a couple of them packed away with my childhood toys.
i liked the star wars one. they're funny looking and really nice to put on a shelf where there's almost no space left.
I do remember back in the day. My kids always wanted to go to McDonald's. To get a happy meal. Thanks Rhetty great memories. God bless and stay safe
Thank you for watching and sharing your memories Tommy!
Memories... lol I loved the popoids, not so much for putting together, but for stretching and collapsing. I think by the time the Wizard of Oz dolls came out, they were trying to create the beany baby success they had and cater to the adult collectors.
actually teh madam alexander ones some are worth a lot
Thank you for watching and sharing some of your thoughts and memories. Those beanie babies were super popular!
@@tyrashelm6014 Not saying they weren't. Just saying they weren't for made for the kids sake. They were pulling on the nostalgia for adults.
@@Wysperfauna ueha but those toys compared to today seem good.. kids today suck attitude wise admit it.. they want electronics and crap at age 3
@@tyrashelm6014 Oh, I know. I used to work for a cable company when the iPad minis first came out. (2012) A mother called to have us help connect 2 of them to her wireless. They were for her 5 year old twins. Those were like $300+ each.
I don't think that a lot of their toys ever really impressed me much but it was kind of exciting to see what you'd get lol
I had a couple of those Mighty Ducks pucks, I kinda enjoyed them!
Thank you for watching and sharing your thoughts!
The camp gear happy meals DID have one good item, that collapsible cup worked great. Heck, I kept mine from childhood in my car glovebox as an adult in case I was out somewhere and needed to get water to take medication or just really needed a drink.
Thank you for calling these out! I still have my little witch doll, but yes these were mostly awful!
The little digs and insults after every description have me rolling! 🤣🤣🤣
I got a princess rollerstamp back in the 90s. I used the hell outta that! 💜
My parents bought an ink pad so I could keep using it.
Best. Toy. Ever.
Just a fyi: I love your content... You do a terrific, professional job... keep em' comin' and I'll keep watching 😉... Thank you
I have no recall of any of these toys. In fact the only toys I do remember were the tiny beanie babies. They weren't awful. Another fun video,
Those beanie babies were probably McDonalds most successful toy of all time. It wad definitely a good one. Thank you for watching and sharing a memory!
I had the Camp McDonald Land utensils. The fork and spoon were useable to eat with and were at least made of plastic that wasn’t thin and flimsy.
Some serious research went into this one. Good job Rhetty. Glad I was old enough to miss the Happy Meal craze of the eighties. My wasn’t but intelligent enough after two disappointments that he wouldn’t buy the con.
Thank you for watching and commenting George!
Not really, he totally whiffed on the hand puppets.
I totally remember the plastic hand puppets 😂😂😂
That bedtime collection actually went hard
I remember the Birdie sponge. It was just like that tickle feather except Birdie was printed on irl I actually didn’t mind that one so much even though I couldn’t do much with it. Kids today don’t know who Birdie is. She represented the chicken nuggets. McDonalds characters usually represent a menu item like the Fry Guys for fries, the Hamburgler and Cheseburgler for the obvious, and Grimace I can only imagine represented the toilet plop You’ll get later that day. Heck! They even named him Grimace! The face a kid might make from said toilet plop! Oh yeah, was there a Grimace sponge too? Maybe that was what the sponge was for. 🤔 yeah??? Where they flushable?
Grimace was just a fun friend. Liked the treats so milkshakes and I remember specifically the grimace cookies. Just a fun and sweet character after his debut.
Grimace represented the milkshakes back in the day, if you can believe that!! Birdie actually represented the breakfast menu :o) the old ads had an “early bird” theme, since her name is Birdie the Early Bird.
I remember, those plastic hand puppets, back in '78 (yes, I'm obviously older). They had the same hand puppets, for balloons you blew into , and it would seal itself. But there were cooler, better toy options, such as the Universal Horror, action figures!!! About 5" tall, and in color. One of The Wolfman, The Frankenstein's monster, Dracula, and The Creature From The Black Lagoon (which was, a clear green). My wife managed to get them all, except Dracula. Like this documentary iterates, you couldn't select your choice. We tried and tried, but couldn't wrangle Drac😔.
I had a Neighbor who worked at a plastics factory that made many of the toys. He was able to give me most all of them. When the popoids came up and they said they were no fun, I was surprised. They were fun, but I had like probably 50+ of them.
