Oh man, I actually had that red Koopa Trooper toy as a kid. It didn't have the hose and button, so my mother probably got it from a 2nd hand store or yard sale, but I had that thing for years, and it was one of my favorites. I had completely forgotten about it until I saw it in this video, so thanks for unlocking a forgotten memory, Peebs!

That 30 year old Eggman toy has better comedic timing than most stand up comedians out there.
And eggman doesn’t even stand up for it
There's also the fact that because of the contract with McDonalds, Sega had a hard deadline for the release of Sonic 3. So the developers set aside half the levels originally planned for the game just to make sure it got out on time, and then put them in Sonic & Knuckles. Which means we have Ronald and Friends' lawyers with their McThreat of financial penalties in the event of non-compliance to thank for Lock-On Technology.
The Japanese version of the Eggman toy actually used his game design.

Tails is the kind of toy I'd love as a kid and hate as a parent.
Funny you're saying that as my country had the exact same Sonic Happy Meal toy set in this video but the Tails one was different.
It had the same flat plastic piece with stickers but everything else was different.
Ours was basically a slowly wobbling chunky beyblade plus a ripcord with the plastic tails part spinning fast.

I had that Dr. Robotnik toy as a kid. I remember being excited to buy it in a thriftstore, as I was incredibly young (like tol young to eat a burger, nevermind a happy meal) when the sonic 3 toys were being released, then being super upset by how crappy the toy itself was. Just moving less than an inch was laughable and frustrating when i spent a dollar on the grab bag just for one toy lmfao.
i used to have it when i was a kid from the mc donalds close by. It did work then

@solid_justice5855 gotcha, maybe it's because I got mine like 10 years after it was released. The toy was slightly older than the 1994 release so it could've been a damaged or slightly worn because it was used previously.
Animal Fun Fact: The Japanese version of Dr. Robotnik's Happy Meal toy has a design more accurate to his video game counterpart, rather than the Adventures of Sonic the Hedgehog design that was used in North America and Europe.

The Robotnik toy actually had his game design in Japan, but it's significantly harder to find than the one released in America.
I used to have it with the bag, bought it off buyee(Proxy service), along with Sonic, tho I eventually sold it

Wow... This is the first time Peebs is doing fast food toys whose commercial I actually remember seeing (SMB3). Really showing my age now.
I was unfortunately too young when those toys were around. I definitely would have gone nuts for the Sonic launcher. I loved those types of happy meal toys.

Last year I had my sonic fast food toys on my shelf in celebration of the sonic 2 movie releasing, and this year I had my Mario fast food toys on my shelf in celebration of the Mario movie coming out.
I used to have all of the SMB3 McDonald's toys except the Raccoon Mario. The Goomba was never able to stick a landing for me lol
Their actually is a game version off eggman but it was only available in Japan

*A little fun facts about Sonic 3 Happy Meal promo!*
The Sonic 3 Happy Meal box is actually hella cool, since you can cut some parts of it, and make like little stages for the toys and other figures, the boxes were:
- Angel Island
- Marble Garden
- Ice Cap
- Launch Base (This one haves a cool sunrise background tho)
The reason why Knuckles haves that random ass cloud it's because of one concept text of Knuckles before he was finalized. If i remember right, the text says something about Knuckles doing some Taz type of thing. Idk if i got it right or not.
The toy set actually had a 3 year old toys. It's a ball with Sonic printed on it, and one for Tails.
They're balls, so yeah, the Sonic 3 toy set wins lmao
Tails one was kinda recalled, i'm not sure, but they changed it for one that it's just Bayblade. And even in Japan they removed entirely of the set. (Also yeah, JP one haves the actual Eggman design lolololol-)
Somehting something McDonald's promo was one huge reason why Sonic 3 was split into two parts, yadah yadah.
What people don't know is that Flying Battery in the first half (As it should be) was snuck in the promo bags. Those bags had some sort of mini games, involving places from Angel Island, Marble Garden, Carnival Night and Flying Battery, yeah.
As random bonus, SEGA was hella dumb. They should have brought back that promo to promote Sonic Mania, but noooo, SEGA liked Hooters for Forces, why the fuck not! SEGA, IT WAS RIGHT THERE THE PERFECT PROMO CAMPAIGN

I had that Knuckles toy as a kid and took him everywhere with me. I was also 11 when it came out and Sonic 3 was fresh and new :3
So: There are TWO Dr. Robotniks used by Sega of America. One is kind of a halfway point between the Dr. Eggman look and the more cartoon version; the second is the one used by Milton Knight on AOSTH and in a more nefarious way in SATAM.

Well i think the toys were manufactured and mass-produced in 1989 to prepare for the release of smb3 in America in February 1990, since they knew the game would be a big hit.

Knuckles is functioning how a real life beyblade would and Luigi is functioning like a beyblade in the anime does. I take crazy unpredictable Luigi over Knuckles any day. Still love both characters thought!
Beyblades actually work more like SONIC did irl. There's a device to launch them, and when you do, they shoot forward and spin.
Referring to the Dr. Robotnik, I had a McDonald’s toy of Doc Hudson from Cars that had a wind up feature but eventually stopped working
The Knuckles toy is actually a reference to a cut concept from Sonic 3 in which he would’ve been able to produce small tornadoes as an attack.

I had the tanooki mario one. Never used the spring, but i had a wrecking-ball car toy thing that had nothing to do with mario. So, my friends and I attached Mario to that and named it ‘Wreck-It Mario’. It became an inside joke with my friends, thanks for giving me these memories back

Lol theres like 5 years between the release of these games, def didnt come out around the same time. Sobic didn't even premier until about when Super Mario World came around. And ya i had those Mario toys as a child, i loved the jumping Mario one!
