Haiku is a wonderful little platformer that came out back in 2022. I meant to play it closer to its release, but...you know...
But now that we've got (a little) free time, it's time to finally finish the game and its DLCs, all while getting one of the harder achievements : beating the game without using the healing wrench.

i still cant believe people don't know about this game even today, i remember it was a very big deal when it came out but it is what it is, i hope you enjoy playing the game as its very unique as much as a metroidvenia can be unique.
It is the price of the curse that it must be passed to another.
My only resistance is that I don't really enjoy metroidvanias from a gameplay perspective. But it's so great to see the love and effort that goes into them.
Not really irony, but I hope you enjoy it.

Hey lemon. JK Leeds uploaded his bloodborne canon video, and he found a move in Martyr Logarius' second phase where his projectile shield isn't active. Meaning you could try the Molotov only and see if you could beat him now.

i love that the creator of this game put in so many references... both easy and hard to spot.... easy one being the double jump room looks a LOT like metroids powerup rooms
in the sunken wastes town, you can find wally from the pixar movie wall-e
One hell of an review. Gives enough to pique interest, leaves enough to motivate us to get the game, and demonstrates a glimpse of the skill ceiling possible

I was like "why do these characters seem so familiar" and then he walked up to Rusty from Rusty's retirement and it all clicked xd
I like how the game sells you the healing wrench later on in the game in case you missed it earlier.
It's hard to miss and 99% of players probably grabbed it when it first appeared, but it's a nice touch

I've been saying for years that one of the absolute rules that we need to introduce in games is "if the enemy spawns a minion, their hp MUST be linked"... finally one dev having the right ideas!!!

I think it may work if the boss spawning the minions has lower health than other bosses. It's harder to end up dealing damage but it goes down faster.

This is lovely pixel art. It's too often used as a shortcut or poorly thought out style choice. This may have been done to save resources but there's clear effort, no cut corners, and TONS of detail.

So I started playing Rusty’s Retirement around the end of April and have never heard of this game until now then I see this video and think “hey I know that character!”
I played Haiku last year while working on my backlog and it really took me by surprise. It's a great MetroidVania with a surprisingly good story that just oozes charm. Awesome to see it getting more love!
In all honesty, I wasn't expecting this game but I enjoy that you like the game, and how cutesy this fairly violent metroidvania looks

this game is so beautiful and charming with its style and amazing bits and nods to other games, even if its not that obvious there is a lot of references in this game hidden behind its art style, i loved this game so much and I'm happy you did too lemon, praise the cogs.

Very cute game, love all the similarities with it and hollow knight. It's like hollow knight 1.5, it has the dreamers, watcher knights, godhome, quirrel, hell even hiveblood. But ontop of all of these similarities is everything different and I love that
The premise reminds me of the PSP Rengoku. The story is you're a robot in a battle tower area and you fight your way to the top of the tower and drop everything on death for the entertainment of people. It just happens that the people all died off and the robots were still stuck fighting forever.
Magnetic footing… smells like steady body to me.
I must acquire it immediately.

Totally agree on the sentiment of giving players control over their environment and mobility options. Nothing feels better in a game, especially a platformer of some kind, than to be given a bunch of really cool mobility options, and feeling yourself slowly get more skilled at using them efficiently.

This is like a Sonic game:
- lots of jumping segrements and stompers
- saving your robot friends from a virus infection
- rolling mode
- sawblade rolling mode
- chaos control to teleport
- Grappler is knuckles glide, in dangerous
That actually makes me wonder if a Sonic Metroidvania could work?
This game kicks absolute ass. Played through recently. Definitely did a few things harder than needed with jump timings over water, before getting upgrade to begate such challenges.

This game gives off extremely strong "Hollow Knight at home" vibes, and they just get stronger the more I watch. Though of course it does seem to be much more than that.

Haiku is one of my favorite Metroidvanias, I almost 100% it (which is very unusual for me) even! It's not long, I've got 9 hours of playtime on Steam, but that's a feature in my book. It doesn't overstay its welcome. And it has a new DLC I missed so it might be time to revisit!

I love when you do metroidvanias! Please, PLEASE do something with Ender Lilies. It’s legit one of the best games in the genre imo, yet very few people have ever heard of it. There’s a sequel coming out called Ender Magnolias too.

for some reason, I feel like a need to see Lemon play Ori, preferebly both games, and maybe see him cryiing as he finishs the game. not because it's a frustating game, just because of how beatiful, and sad, the game is. also feel like he's going to absolutely love the game, even if he do a hardcore challenge, HECK i dont even care about the challenge, just wanna see him playing through Ori and Blind Forest and Ori and the Will of the Wisps

I’ve never heard of this game, but it looks awesome! So many similarities to SMM Hollow Knight. Very impressive to be made by a solo dev
This is a pretty good game, I played it with a while back together with my mom, it has very clearly taken a lot of inspiration from hollow knight but you don't feel like you are playing the same game which is pretty nice.

I started playing Rusty’s Retirement after hearing it mentioned on a Second Wind podcast. If you like idle games it’s a solid recommendation.
