- From pine martens to slow worms, here are adorable creatures that make their homes in the United Kingdom. You can find them in other places around the world, but-sorry, Americans-they aren't native to the U.S.

They're no Hedgehog in america ? Am I the only one suprised by that ?
***** Gotta go fast
Genta I doubt, because of their size, that robins flew to the america's
Genta Robins would be unlikely to be able to fly across the oceans. Hedgehogs are not native to the United States/North America. You can get Nile Monitors at pet stores, too, but that doesn't mean they're native to the United States.
Genta the USA doesn't have any *native* hedgehogs I think is the point. Same with the robin - which is definitely not the same in the USA as the robin in the UK (www.allaboutbirds.org/guide/American_Robin/id versus en.wikipedia.org/wiki/European_robin)
Andrew Griffin Were they African robins or European robins?
My favourite English animal is Paddington Bear :-)
Well I'll disappoint you as he's from peru
Emanuel de Matos lol took me a while to figure out what you meant
Emanuel de Matos he's from the darkest Peru though
Emanuel de Matos eyyy
Well for a starters we dont have bears in britain
Siohban, we will miss you so much!!! Best of luck in your future endeavors.
She's leaving? When, why, where, how????
She didn't say, just dropped the bombshell that she was moving on at the end of this video. Sigh.
***** She's moving on to pursue a career as a chimney sweep, evident by her new hat
Blimey!
***** I just saw her on College Humor! The Gluten video. Woo hoo!
It won't be the same without Siobhan!!
Where did she move off to?
@@jamestorres1414 She moved to America to play some roles in College Humor videos and to work as a staff writer for the Rick & Morty TV series.
We have pine martens and red squirrels here in the US. But, like the robin, they are different species we use the same names for. We have badgers too. Ours aren't the cutesy Hufflepuff old brocks though. These things will face down rattlers and not bat an eye, and chase after trucks that get too close to their dens.
Those are honey badgers, I don't think they are the same species
Honey Badgers live in Africa. We have badgers that are different than the black and white ones in Britain, but those are not the ones in the Honey Badger videos. We have martens, but mostly we have blackfooted ferrets, weasels, fishers, and wolverines(the biggest kind of weasel). We don't have stoats either. They're like a light brown version of the pine marten in this video.
inb4 "it's rings not coins"
In England they collect coins. It's the Japanese hedgehog that collects rings.
Maxx B. Two different species, clearly.
we have something like this in florida. they are called glass snakes. they are really lizards. their tails come off too.
I WILL MISS YOU!!!! Man, it's like Doctor Who all over again. This next host has a lot to live up to...
Galen Alexander Deeds Moffat was the worst
Aw, Siobhan, you can't leave us!
Thanks for all the great videos, and good luck with whatever's next!
Siobahn, this channel can't possibly be as good without you. Please let us know if are moving on to some other media venue - you have fans!
I know I’m 3 years late but she now works for Collegehumor.
@@obsolete_5807 thanks
Nachiket Pradhan no problem
I'm sorry to hear Siobhan will no longer be doing these clips. I've enjoyed her delivery of this series immensely!
She moved on to CollegeHumor for awhile and I just saw that she's one of the writers for Rick and Morty.
Sonic collected rings not coins! Lol sorry I just thought I'd stick that in👍🏻😂
I noticed
d that too
+Maria Cowle I yelled "RINGS!" at the screen then quickly got over it
+Maria Cowle Maybe they changed it for copyright reasons?
We have Martins in North America. Along with other mustelidae, such as weasels, skunks, otters, fishers, wolverines, and ferrets.
HemlockRidge yes but obviously different species, so our one is not the same as yours.
@@Invader_Era Why yes! The American Pine Martin IS, in fact, a different species. Duh. BUT STILL, there are Martins in North America. So what's your point?
YOU DON'T HAVE HEDGEHOGS?!!
Not natively, no
+Sam I just had never thought that some countries wouldn't have little spiky yet squishy creatures bumbling about at night!
Not only that, but most pet hedgehogs in the states are African hedgehogs, so they don't have dark little faces like the British ones.
candiduscorvus wow that's really interesting Xx
We have American opossums and raccoons that bumble around at night here and cause a lot of nuisance sometimes.
I love the wild horses down southwest of the uk and also the shires, they're amazing :)
Robins are accossiated with Christmas because in 1950's Britain postmen wore red at Christmas time and they were nicknamed 'Red Robins'
NOOOOO Siobahn!! Dont leave!
Oh? And I just recently subscribed...
Well, farewell, Ms. Thompson. Good luck in your next venture.
You might not have heard of them because they're so rare but haggis come fro the highlands of Scotland and when boiled are delicious
Haggis is boiled and stuffed sheep stomach.
Your robins are so cute! So many cute animals!
i haven't heard of a slow worm, but if i saw one i would probably freak out thinking it was a snake
I remember when I found one was a kid. I picked it up because it was harmless but everyone ran away. :(
Sian Louise Greenwood
We actually have many species of legless lizards in the United States. I still probably wouldn't pick them up if I were you, because the mucous they secrete to get away from predators is completely disgusting.
I am glad i don't live in the U.S then lol
When I was working on the BT network some years ago , I found a gang of the little guys in an underground network box. As they are a protected species, we had to inform the local council to look after them. A few hundred metres down the road, there was another box with a colony of a hundred or so red and black spiders with hourglass markings on their backs. I was the only person not petrified to get into the pit... Fun times.
As an aside, I am surprised not to see the British badger included in this list.
Sian Greenwood Unfortunately she was wrong about them not being in America. We call them glass snakes and they are very common at least in Florida. Caught many of them myself. Not slimy and have no teeth to speak of and completely harmless.
You're leaving???!!!??? NOOOOOOOO!!!!!
I mean, best of luck in your newest project and be sure to let everyone know where we can see you. You will be missed.
Cheers.
:( You did a great job with Anglophenia I enjoyed it so much. We'll miss you! Hope to see you somewhere else :D
You were awesome Siobhan...hope u do well in whatever u do next
nooooooo i can't believe she's leaving :(
***** since when is she leaving :(
WibblyWobblyTimeyWimey I like your name.
WibblyWobblyTimeyWimey Since she announced it at the end of the video...
I know, but why? :(
WibblyWobblyTimeyWimey Because she's moving on.
A shame to hear you're moving on, the show won't be the same without you. Regardless, I wish you all the best wherever you are off to next!
Best wishes, Siobhan. You're awesome.
I absolutely love your channel! :D
rings! Sonic collects rings, not coins!
America does have pine martens and red squirrels, they're just considered different species. :) American pine marten and American red squirrel.
Exactly, therefore they don't have the ones in the video..
Don't be obtuse dipshit.
Chris Jenkins
Calm down, i was only stating a fact...
No you're still being obtuse, because you will find pine martens and red squirrels in America and even if they are different species the differences exist on a purely genetic level that is unnoticeable to the naked eye (in fact at one time they were considered the same species before genetic testing was possible). Clearly the aim of this video was to showcase animals that might seem unusual to Americans. By your logic they could have put brown bears, bison, crows, or pigeons in this video just because they are technically different species than the American variants but of course all Americans are very familiar with those animals so it wouldn't make sense to do so.
Chris Jenkins
No, but what I mean is that if they are a different species, they're fine to be shown in the vid, regardless if thre's an animal which looks the same but is genetically different..
I had a baby pine marten pet for awhile when it wandered into the backyard of our old house but it ran away when it got older. Also kept a slow worm for awhile before it too escaped.
Will miss you Siobhan!
I think there are some people here in The States that have Hedgehogs as pets, but no, they aren't wild around here.
***** Well, they aren't *in* the wild around here.
Same as in Canada, and I almost adopted one
Lol
America has hedge hogs.
You don't have hedgehog get your facts right
***** Well it sounds like those people need to read a book.
How about the endandered Scottish wildcat?
Dang! I half watched only for your perfectly humorous delivery. Farewell Siobhan, good luck and you'll be missed!
Love Siobhan.
What about the coconut carrying swallows?
+Brad Evans How can a five ounce bird carry a one pound coconut?
+Matthew Coullace No, they'd have to have it on a line.
+Daniel Lawson It's a reference to Monty Python
+Michael Panggabean he was referencing the next line
+evilmick66 Simple. Just use a line of creeper.
Blue hedgehogs collect rings, not coins. You're thinking of the Japanese-Italian plumber.
Girls can't play video games!
I will surely miss your chipper presentations. I do love your cute public school accent.
Siobhan, you will be missed! Best of luck in your future endeavo(u)rs!
i live in one of the last places in England where you wont find a grey squirrel
Where?
Siobhan you can't leave! No fair!
All the best to you Siobhan. Cheers!
Siobhan, I hope you reconsider your departure. You're a perfect fit for this gig. It's hard to believe that you'll be able to replace this with anything that's such a perfect match for your gifts.
Pine martins look like miniature wolverines. Very cool looking animals.
Same family.
Perhaps someone has mentioned it before, but Squirrel Nutkin is an Edwardian story, not Victorian. /pedantry
Thank you, Siobhan!
Farewell Siobhan you were both entertaining and informative. Hope that you prosper in your next gig.
*Sees Pine Marten*
I want one.
Thanks Siobhan, for your time! Just have to say, though, we do have wild, native martens here. The American pine marten is widely distributed on the East Coast, West Coast, and even in Alaska and the Midwest!
we have slow worms in the states mostly found in the southeastern us. one of the most common names is glass snake referring to how the tail can brake off very easily when handled
Great film ❤️ just subscribed hope to see more 👍
Farewell? :(
You mustn't leave! This is terrible!
Sorry to see you leave as I just found the channel. All the best in your future endeavours.
Growing up in the 80’s finding Hedgehogs and slow worms I’m your garden was commonplace.
I rarely see Hedgehogs now (I have a space set aside especially for hedgehogs so I get them coming into my back garden) and I haven’t seen a wild slow worm for years.
Curious........we do have hedge hogs here and we have at least in Florida what you call Slow worms we call Glass snakes. I have caught many of them in my own yard, in fact they are quiet common to the state, and you are right you have to be very careful picking them up because they will break off a section to be grown back later. Oh and yes they look exactly the same the same as their British counter part. Cheers!
ZombieGirl416 Where did you grow up and what schools?
I grew up in Naples, It's south Florida, the Gulf side. Went to Lely high.
I know Naples. I'm from Orlando.
Cool, I have family in Orlando :)
I've been to Orlando a few times
Gator land is cool
Your slow worms are similar to our glass snakes which are lizards that have no limbs.
I thought a glass snake was a Chinese grass snake
Going to miss you a lot!
I love your vids... I use to live in Glos...I miss is it so... Thank you so much....
Hey, we have cool animals too! Like bison, wild turkey, coyotes, armadillos, guinea pigs, mountain lions, panthers, bobcats, and porcupines. I'll put my porcupine up against your hedgehog any time. LOL
Sandy Lewis We have a good amount of those animals too... lol.
Sandy Lewis A bit of research would educate yourself tremendously. We may not have Panthers or Bobcats, but we have more than you think unfortunately for you.
Xqueros You certainly don't have our native wildlife, unless you imported them. Many of the animals you think are ubiquitous have been introduced to Great Britain in the past few hundred years. A little research and some examples would go a long way in supporting your mysterious statement. The only animal on my list that you "have", is the Himalyan porcupine which is terrestrial and very small and meek, while ours is arboreal and quite large. Ours is entirely native to all of the Americas. Yours originated from around the Indian sub-continent.
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_mammals_of_Great_Britain
Sandy Lewis Ummm I have a Guinea Pig and I'm in the UK...
Xqueros I'm sure you do. Do you know where they are from? Do you know what a capybara is?
Am I the only one bothered by the incorrect Sonic reverence? He collected rings, not coins ( that was Mario).
Anglophenia You're leaving us? :,( I just discovered this wonderful channel a few weeks ago, and will definitely continue to follow it, but we will definitely miss you! Good luck in whatever adventure you're heading off to ...
Farewell, Siohban! I always enjoyed your videos so much (despite the fact that I'm neither Brit nor American)! :)
why on earth have 41 people marked this down ?? WHAT is their problem? There is NOTHING to fault here.. I can say from decades of nature experience it is correct in every detail. I can only suggest that those nay sayers.. (plus the usual 20 plus on the other Anglophenia videos) are just insanely jealous losers who wish they could make such beautifully presented videos. I say this not to be ''nice'' or ''sweet'' or anything, but I give credit where it's due and it really annoys me to see thumbs down with no justification whatsoever.
wait America doesn't have Hedgehogs?
In the mountains of Oregon, we have American Martens, which are also called Pine Martens.
Sorry to see you go!
Pantalaimon!!!
flips220 Yasssss!!!
I once rescued a dehydrated hedgehog
+Tallie Watson Found one in my garden not that long ago. Bizzarely it had managed to get into the chicken coop and was attacking the adolescent chickens. I crawled in wearing oven mitts, rescued him, made him some boiled eggs and set him free. He hasn't been back since :)
Really! That's cool! The one I found was just wandering around the caravan site!
+Tallie Watson Irish Travellors consider the hedgehog a delicacy.
+john smith They cover whole body in clay then cook it on fire then just crack the clay shell open.
Ah, poor things.
Finally I know what a pine marten is! The Redwall books talk about them and I never knew what they looked like. Thanks!
It's funny... In northern North America in addition to robins we have animals we call "red squirrel" and "pine marten" which are also different species from their British counterparts. I want to note additionally that the only blue hedgehog I know is called "Sonic" and he collects rings, not coins.
We actually have Martens in America. They are actually so plentiful in Canada that they are commercially hunted.
M
2:54 yup, I thought you'd mention the swear word, haha.
+DMG02 It's not a swear word, it's a part of the female body
Iain Campbell But it is used as profanity these days because humanity is a failure.
good video, I hope one day to have seen all of these listed creatures and more as a British person who loves wildlife.
Great video❤️❤️
I swear more english people watch this and laugh than Americans
18th viewer! Yay! No, Siohban, don't leave us!
Robins know no fear. I've had them stand on my foot many times when I've been digging the garden.
We have Pine Martens in the U.S.. They are relatively rare but from time to time you'll see them in the Canadian border states (Minnesota, Michigan, etc).
So... porcupines and hedgehogs arent the same things.....
+aznfangrl612
They are completely different. A hedgehog is closer to an armadillo.
no
+aznfangrl612 NOOOOOO
No they look very similar but are DEFINITELY DIFFERENT XD
Ruby Rogers They look nothing like each other...
We have your starlings and I wish you had them all back. They are a nuisance bird.
+Kentucky 1950 Yes! They stalk my bird feeders and run the other birds out. (And the farmers aren't crazy about them, either.)
I'm sure they wish we'd take our gray squirrels back. Now THAT's a nuisance if you have a bird feeder.
We do have Pine Martens over here, mostly around the rockey mountains and up in to canada.
Aww where r u off to? I actually like this show because I like your hosting style! Hope to see you in another show!
I love your accent! I mean, I'm from Yorkshire in England but your accent is soooo beautiful ^^
My favorite is the wild Rowan Atkinson. Catching a glimpse of one in their natural habitat is breathtaking! :D
2:43 *lol* the sound made when that bird is drinking XD , 2:53 "Why are you giggling?"
We do have Pine Martens in America, but they are slightly different in size and color. We also have red squirrels, but they lack the tufted ears.
The slow worm is called a glass lizard or legless lizard here in the states. They are common in the sand land of the Southeastern US.
I MISS SIOBHAN!!!
We actually do have Pine Martens in the Sierra Nevada mts in California. They are very rare and endangered.
Pine Martens are a rare sight in some parts of Canada so yeah they do live in Canada and probably small parts of Northern us to
red squirrels also live in Canada
Lps MaineCoon yes but species are different, are you sure your one is the same to ours, this is a big common mistake.
We have lots of red squirrels too. Needed a bit more research on this vid.
We do have Pine Martens in North America. I'm from northern Canada and have seen them in the wild
I think it's really cute that Robins in italian are called pettirossi, which is translated like redchests
So sad you're leaving :( Will we see more of you on other CZcams channels in the future? Will the Snarky Sidekick series continue?
Hope the new Anglophenia videos will be just as great :)
Robins are associated with Christmas because Victorian postmen, at the time when Christmas cards were introduced, wore red waistcoats and were nicknamed 'Robin'. That's why, on so many Christmas cards even today, robins sit on post boxes or carry mail bags.
Oh no. Siobhan is part of what makes this channel awesome. Don't go!
Sad to see you go Shavone (spelling? give me a break, I'm American lol) - such a fun personality, sweet voice. All the best though!
When I was in England I sort of fell in love with the foxes. We have them in Poland too, but ours don't live in the neighbourhood and they don't scare you at night.
