@@noahbien2563 I hope so, but I've nothing to do with that decision, I'm no longer with the companies that own the rights (which itself could be the complication: a combination of Activision, Gracie Films, and possible EA who may still own the rights to Simpsons games in general).

Me and my brother would play this for hours, swapping the controller whenever one of us got busted by the police 😂 I also remember the last level took us months to complete! Man racing to that UFO in time was hard!

All these years later it is satisfying to me to hear that the game brought some small joy into your life. It was one of the best teams I was ever on, we all loved the show and the game we were making, and had fun together too (I remember many great early morning ice hockey sessions!).
The mission timing, interesting story: my personal instinct was to tune things a bit easier. A couple months before the game was final I met Richard Mul, who was a designer and producer on the original and early Need for Speed games. I had a lot of respect for Richard, and he was more experienced than me at fine-tuning the difficulty of racing games. He sat with me for a week and we tuned up every mission, making most of them a bit harder. While that can result in some frustration, I still think I was right to give my trust to Richard, and it made for a more engaging game.
This game was a huge success here in Brazil. Parents let children play instead of GTA. Good memories! Your remake looks really great.

@@reubs have you considered opening this up to be a community project? I think there are enough fans of the game to want to finish it for free. TimeSplitters Rewind is an example of it, granted they never finished but Free Radical recently announced they were working on a new game so it was a success in the end!
@@nomoreheroes93 there would be a lot of copyright issues as the project relies on original assets, so it’s probably not possible as Activision and EA (who I believe may own the rights) generally put their foot down on this stuff. Reubs already removed the demo link for copyright reasons so… yeah
It‘s incredible what you achieved! I loved the simpsons hit and run so much as a child. It was like my reason to live for. My dad died when I was 10 years old and this game was the only thing that still made me happy. I had no friends at school and got mocked, so I had lots of time alone and to game on my old laptop. I was such a nerd, I finished everything at 100%, all cards, all bonus level etc.
I could never had imagined that the fanbase is still so big till this day. My heart fluttered when I saw your video, thank you so much!

The simpsons and futurama sure have helped to fill the void throughout my life, when i was in my early teens, two tv channels each played 2 episodes of the simpsons a day, so 4 every day, it was bliss it helped me feel much less lonely when i had them to love!

AI doesn't enhance it, it just makes it look better. It can't add any detail like it does in CSI

It's really good at the flat textures and text because its well-trained and they are easy to predict. Completely different from enhancing 3d live-action gas station footage. I do think a neural network could eventually learn everything it needs to know to enhance those too, but some information is always getting lost forever with that kind of footage.
This guy literally practiced the concept of working smarter and not harder when remastering this game . Amazing work !

Never heard of this game, never played it, but it's really amazing how you solved so many apparently intractable problems in a week. The range of disparate online resources you used is fabulous, some of them are just works of genius in their own right, but the skill in drawing them all together is really impressive - bravo!

I wonder how well AI could enhance a photo of a potential crime suspect?
@@hypnotoad28 Not very well, its good for doing general things, but what it does is it makes up the missing parts, so if you gave a blurry image of a person to the AI and it manages to perfectly upscale it you will get an image of some random person. No matter how good it gets, it will never be able to get information that isn't in the original image.
@@hypnotoad28 you cant use it to enhance faces, the AI is just guessing. a picture only has the pixels it has so you still can't "enhance it like in CSI" . watch 2kliksphilip video "Using AI to make pictures 'better'".

I LOVED this game as a kid too! ♥ Still have it and my original Gamecube ☺ My favorite was the "__ days since a tornado" sign at the trailer park, and when you hit a specific pedestrian, they'd say: "my bones don't bend that way!" So many hilarious little details in such a brilliant game.

Make sure you clean it
Wolfz Music take it apart and look for the problem. They can easily be fix! Mine broke a lot but I was always able to take it apart and make it work like new at the age of 9
just buy the original game and use pcsx2
that's what I did with my PC version except I instantly then looked into the All Story Missions speedrunning and did that for a couple weeks :D
This is what the game looked like in my young brain. Being an adult it's a fascinating realisation of how good tech is nowadays. And how impressive the previous effort was.

I WOULD PAY FOR THIS TO BE THE FULL GAME, this is absolutely amazing and a huge upgrade. i'm in love with this and it's mind blowing to think that this was made in a week. literally my childhood, i used to play this game on the gamecube all the time, it's soo amazing to see the modern remake of this. I LOVE IT.

Honestly, more than a remaster, Hit&Run deserve a remake.
Imagine being able to go all around Springfield without being restricted to the loops (line in the case of the last level) of the original.
As frankly, that was the biggest flaw of the game: the environment felt a bit too restricted.

I am skeptical, sure the GPU has made graphics much better but game physics and gameplay hasn't really improved. Compare mario 64 to mario odessy and pretty much it is the same (except for the graphics).

I think he means you can't do it as much or as smoothly or easily as they do it in shows like CSI where they can use it to do things like pick up a reflection in a person's pupil from a picture because before iphones or gaming laptops were even a thing (not kidding, this is something they actually do)

@@lol-de4lo Well that and adding missions, npc's, lots of menues etc. It would take a long time but he's already done to heavy lifting of finding out "how", now he "just" needs to do A LOT more. It's understandably why he stopped here. Although with help from just a few with textures and stuff the full game could be done with like 1 years time. But it's not worth it seeing as it wouldn't be allowed to sell :(

until i saw this video, i was skeptical that rockstar had actually remade their GTA trilogy in unreal as the rumors have said. i thought it seemed like too big of a task, but if you did this in a week, it's entirely possible a team could accurately replicate classic GTA over a couple years.
Blizzard Entertainment remade the original World of Warcraft with WoW:Legion’s engine in about the span of around two to three years if I’m accurate. Most of the heavier tasks are probably done (such as creating the world) for Rockstar and I know with Blizz a majority of the work was porting the old assets into the newer engine and databases. As long as Rockstar has their source code I can’t see it being super tedious.
