How to Ride a Tandem Bicycle

Have you ever wondered how hard is it to learn how to ride a tandem bicycle? In this video, cyclists Lex Albrecht and Paul Thomas demonstrate three tandem cycling tips for cycling partners learning to ride a tandem bicycle. Alternative method for start stops (from days of toe clips and straps, still works very well, especially with newer stokers) is Captain holds bike both feet on ground, sitting on tob tube to stabilize while stoker clips in. Stoker then raises preferred foot for captain to clip in (or strap in if using toe clips and straps). Push off, pedal three or for strokes, pause or slow for captain to clip in (and/or tighten toe straps). Captain does one or both feet down at stoplights, stoker remains clipped in.

One possible reason you may want a tandem is if your partner is less athletic than you and you want to travel together
I can think of at least two more reasons

@@paulhunter123 distance and endurance. Two tires produce less friction than 4 tires. You can travel, farther, easier.
Easier to carry bags and install a child seat. If it’s a cross country trip.
