  • Education systems have made great strides to close gender gaps and tackle sexism. However, there are lessons to draw from taking a closer look at student behaviour and performance, which can help reduce discrimination, including when it comes to choosing a career, according to this OECD PISA report from 2012. The ABC of Gender Equality in Education looks at gender differences in education and addresses policies to help boys and girls reach their full potential. Learn more: www.oecd.org/pisa/keyfindings...

I like how this video has the decency to imply boys are lazier than girls, and still call it "equality".

They learn differently, with boys showing a greater aptitude for practical learning & end of year examinations.

I definitely learned a lot of stuff from playing video games, but I think it's more about time management than actually learning. As we all know, middle-school/high-school is not about learning about subjects but rather the discipline to get an A.

so what this video show is that boys do less homework, read less (which is btw complete nonsense and only true if you count books as only reading possible which is absolute madness) and still do better at applying their knowledge?

Gender Bias in Education can be so rooted that we do not notice it. For instance remark by a teacher "I need five strong boys to move these desks to the next class"

    • @johncrow5552

Gender bias actually favours girls. Reports show girls in class are given higher scores in exams (due to most teachers being female) but when tests are blind, boys do just as well.

I think girls are capable of doing sciences just like the boys. What is important is to prepare them for opportunities available and encourage them to work harder and together with the boys. The issue of inability of boys to read during their spare time seem to suffer from the 'fallacy of generalisation'.

There has been a well publicised campaign by the UK government in making maths and science more open to girls in school, and a push and drive for more girls becoming scientists and engineers.
One thing concerning in the video is the fact of 'controlling' children not spending much time on video games. Ever brought-up children in this modern digital age? Because with ever increasing of diminishing parental responsibility in the UK and other Western countries the children these days are the ones in control, and less disciplined than they were, unfortunate as it sounds.
