Looking forward to this series! Love to see some humble beginnings! Hopefully this project won't be as overbearing as some stuff you've tackled! It's a long road to God hand but I'll wait!
Thanks man!! These smaller, more bite-sized episodes have been much easier on me and I’ve been going a little less crazy on animation and editing which makes everything a little more manageable.
I don’t want to even think about how many Capcom games there are before God Hand. See you in 2053! 😅
Let's goooo! I had no idea this game existed, and I've really been getting into STGs, I should look into it and the follow-up. What a neat idea for a retrospective series!
Thanks, glad you enjoyed it! Honestly, Vulgus is just okay as a shooter, but Neo Vulgus/Titan Warriors on the NES is a lot more fun. You should be able to track down a ROM of it pretty easily.
Fever chance would probably make me go into debt ngl, 20/10 video my dude
Haha, thanks dude!!
What a great idea for a series! Definitely looking forward to more of these!
Side note, it’s great to hear all that Mega Man music, especially that semi deep cut towards the end 🎵😎🎶
Thanks man!! I knew that you in particular would be loving the music I chose for this video, haha.
I absolutely adore the Complete Works arranged soundtracks if you couldn’t tell. 😅
@@RewindArcade The CW arrangement of Toad Man is absolute gold, one of my top favorites of that particular soundtrack. I also don't think I've ever heard anyone use music from Mega Man Legends before! 👍
The entire MM4 CW soundtrack is just a massive improvement on the already amazing OST! Pharaoh Man, Ring Man, Toad Man, Dive Man. Every arrangement is a home run!
And yeah, the MML OST doesn’t get enough love. I actually bought the original Japanese CD soundtrack like 20 years ago and somehow still have it.
this is awesome! What a nice surprise! Love all the historical details
Thanks a ton man, it was fun to put together!
ITS DEZ!! What's up mate
@@chid255 yooooo!
Christ, that intro was so good! I replayed it a couple times not gonna lie lol The Yulgus (Im sure I am spelling it wrong) is interesting! Didn't know that but recognized it from MM immediately. Good fact to know. Keep up the good work
Thanks dude haha! I actually made the intro a little while back just for fun before I even had committed to the video series. And yeah, the Yashichi's are pretty timeless and pop up in soooo many Capcom games!
This was a fantastic video, can't wait for more
Thanks Slope, appreciate it!
Crazy that Capcom was releeasing EM games in 83, whilce the Famicom had just came out and Namco was in high gear producing home versions of their existing arcade games. We all have to start somewhere, I guess!
Agreed! The Japanese gaming market in the early 80s was so bizarre and crazy with a lot of devs trying to quickly hone their arcade/console tech and the wild Japan PC video game scene. Such a fun rabbit hole to go down!
So excited to see the start of this series!
Thanks! Looking forward to releasing more episodes soon.
Absolutely love this series so far! Great editing as usual and nice bite sized stories that work really well with your usual flare. Interesting that Capcom poached Konami devs....headhunting was no joke back in the day!
Thanks man, much appreciated!! Yeah, I always thought pseudonyms being used in game credits back then was a bit much, but headhunting was happening so often that I guess I kind of understand why companies did it. 😅
The voice sounded familiar, but the name not so much, was a (or in case the creater sees this, did you use) another name used in the past?
and to answer my own question, i am guessing yes? as i def seen most of the vids available here. But then again, wouldn't be the first time that my memory fails me :D
@@NLSagat My original channel name was "ChrisB Crisps", but I changed it to Rewind Arcade earlier this year.
@@RewindArcade Yup def remember that name. Well good luck with this reboot? you quality is constant, and to be sure i mean this as a good thing because i thoroughly enjoyed your other vids, even kid icarus which i don't even like as a game :D
I love this as an idea for a series! Wonderful job, lookin forward to the next vod🙂
Thank you!! I've had this idea for a while, but wasn't sure how well it would be received. Next episode shouldn't be too far off hopefully.
Excellent work as usual, good sir! I can't wait to see what else you do with this series.
Thanks man, appreciate it! I’m curious to see what I do with it myself. 😂
Oh I LOVE this! Can't wait for more. Welcome back! 👏
Thanks!!
This is a really cool idea for a video series. Vulgus... what a weird name, probably why I havent played it yet, I gotta try it out!
Thanks man! It’s certainly not the most amazing shmup out there, but still some good fun to be had.
Hyped on this, can’t wait for more!
Thanks! Hoping to get new videos out a lot faster than my old ones, haha.
This is going to be quite the undertaking looking into every CAPCOM game; I wish you the best of luck and sanity. Will be looking forward to watching. How are you going to handle iterations and "expansion packs" like the 30 (joke) different versions of Street Fighter II? haha
I haven't really mapped the whole project out yet since I wanted to see how the first few episodes turned out and how they would be received before I really committed for the long haul, haha. 😂
Very nice video! Looking forward to the next ones!
Thank you!!
Great video! Never knew Capcom's original name!
Thank you!! I wish there was more info about what the company did in the years before Capcom was officially formed.
Cool Series already! I recently bought an untested PCB of Vulgus, but it's unfortunately not JAMMA. Hoping it works once I get an adapter
Thank you! And that’s really awesome you’ve got a PCB of Vulgus! Hope you can get it running with an adapter.
coming from Shmup Junkie's channel: great content here! Super subscribed!
Thanks so much!!
Great start to a new series. Cant wait to see more episodes
Thanks!!
Good video, I love Vulgus! Didn't know there was a sequel! I'll try to find it :D
Here's some extra info/impressions I gathered about the gameplay and scoring when I got hooked a couple of years ago.
- The game has 2 versions: Set 1, the original ROM, which is the one included in Capcom Arcade Stadium and probably other collections, and Set 2 which you can play through emulation (MAME) and the one I recommend since it fixes an exploit* in the scoring system. You can easily tell them apart: Set 1 allows 10 characters in the scoreboard screen while Set 2 only allows 3 characters.
- A loop on this game consists of 3 planets and 3 space areas between them. Then it loops indefinitely. Small enemies are random making each run fresh but waves and big enemies are fixed (they do change between loops, but not between runs). The 2nd loop adds a new enemy (quite annoying), mixes enemies from every planet (sometimes looking a bit spammy), changes wave formations to test your missiles, adds extra bullets to test your dodging and basically wants you dead... it's fun! XD The third loop is similar and then the game kind of resets on the 4th loop, lowering the difficulty (it's like a 3 loops game on repeat, kind of).
- The SCORING SYSTEM is great as well if we ignore the optimal strategy.
Basically, kill full waves to get a bonus between 500 and 5000 depending on how many waves you've destroyed without dying, and line up enemies with your missiles to get combos (if you finish a wave with a missile the wave bonus won't show up on screen but it'll still be added to your score). Big enemies give 1k points as well and stars award 10k. Take into account that you can despawn enemies, which can help with survivability but also break waves and lose big enemies
- The items E, S, D seem to have a negligible effect (if any), so think of them as items you need to pick up to get more missiles and stars (if your missiles stock is full, you'll get more stars).
*The optimal strategy involves not using missiles and (ONLY IN SET 1) infinite CP milking: Vulgus, the last boss, is worth 50k points instead of 10k if you didn't use any missiles in the loop, and it also gives you an extra life when it dies so... yeah... czcams.com/video/r6laTZBQYb4/video.html. Thankfully you can ignore it or play Set 2 which only lets you do this once. In that version, the second time you kill Vulgus the game will respawn you in the next loop after a death no matter what. That's still 100k which rewards not using missiles, but at least the game continues and there's no infinite anymore.
I just typed out a very long response to your original comment, but I guess you deleted it, haha. So I'll just say thanks for watching and for the info. 😂
@@RewindArcade Oops! 😅
Well... Thanks for the video! :D
I love when IRem makes an appearance.
This series is gonna be sweet!
Same! I couldn’t believe that both Capcom and Irem were founded by the same guy, but I believe he was eventually ousted from Irem.
Thanks for watching!
This looks so promising, keep it up!
Who is this, again? Something familiar with the voice, and the animations? Oh, it's that guy, with a new channel name! Nice!
Yeah, sorry, I confused a lot of people with the whole "rebrand" earlier this year, haha.
Great video
Thank you!!
love this so far great stuff man I "wish" my stuff looked a 4th as good as yours heh.
Thanks man!! The problem with doing things my way is that I can’t get new stuff out as often most other channels.
Honestly though, you could add animations like mine pretty easily to your stuff since the majority of it is basic keyframing. It’s just very time consuming. 😅
@@RewindArcade yeah keyframing can take a bit especially if you have multiple things moving at the same time!
Great video as usually Sir. Comment for CZcams Algorithm
Thank you good sir!!
Vulgus and SonSon are both included in Street Fighter 6
That's awesome! I bought SF6, but haven't played it yet. I've heard there's a lot of awesome classic Capcom stuff in the story mode.
Prof F 👏
The man!! Probably one of the best game developers of all-time!
