I love the hell out of fluffy lists. I"ve been working on my dream army it took me over 4 years to collect the models and paint them up. The mighty Armageddon Steel Legion. I even made my own Steel Legion rough riders, but my god is kitbashing pewter models such a royal pain. Most fun i've had in building and painting an army

Got the catachan codex when the first plastic catachans came out, gave away my eldar and never looked back from the guard.
Combat guard are like all other kinds of guard lists, great fun. Good job

@@MordianGlory awesome video as always MG ☺ i will attend an event on may and i'm looking for suggestions on a armored company list. I don't pretend you make a video about it(it will be marvellous, no doubt ) but i will really appreciate some help in doctrine and secondaries selection (apart from inflexible command). Btw i'm going to run 2 tank commanders and 6 leman russ, 5 cadian St , 2 commissars, 1 cadian command squad and 2 HWT with mortars. Thank you👍
These are great listening. A battle report audiobook that lasts for a while errands trip.
My thoughts on the stupidly large amount to line of sight blocking terrain is that the close combat armies and the hyper elite players complain that they need them with guard about, they do it at my locals and the other gaming shops around mine and it get it but they get pretty salty when they spec into elites and then get out gunned.

Hi Mordian glory. Been a fan for a while, love to see guard getting a good run. Also like you trying out new lists like this. I would love to see a Flamer spam army or a Sentinel spam army

I remember when combat guard was just running a catachan regiment.
But then they made catachan regiment soldiers have limited wargear and cost more points for some weird reason.
And took the special CC weapons away from them.
Then again, all my bolter/power fist sgts are useless again.
The squad wargear I sort of get: the box only has flamers in it. But why the sergeant's knife doesn't even count as a +1 attack melee weapon, let alone a power sword, seems bizarre.

I just played a game against my friend's all-Deathwing with my guard, which ended in a tie. Those auto-wounds on cadians were a life-saver.
Fantastic storytelling from start to finish. I would have loved to see a few more photos to go along with it, the ones you got were good but there are times the story seems to get away from them. Nevertheless great fun and always glad to see the Imperial Guard make a good showing.

they die way to fast for what they're worth. 200 points for a 10 man, 2 wounds each with a 4+ base, 4T. they die faster to anything that would kill space marines.
Oh, yeah. Definitely worth picking up the Catachan Codex. I had mine since it came out :D

@@amateurishauthor2202 No its an old one from 20 years ago. They were a proper guerilla army that could lay traps all over the board and move and shoot through jungle terrain with no issue. Such a fun army to play as, but required you to always play in a jungle sadly.

Ah yes Sly Marbo, “THE.” Catachan Jungle Fighter. Bro makes even the most brutal of heretics and Xenos paranoid. He can basically deep strike during the reinforcements phase of the movement phase and then leave the battlefield only to be deployed again at the end of your fight phase. However if he’s not on the battlefield he counts as destroyed.
Agree with you on the terrain that was way to heavy. But the guard book is so so so strong. I can't see guard being beaten by much if you ran a balls to the wall list
Couldn't spot how you got the double exploding 6s from straken, about the break my guard out for the first time since the codex dropped and keen to give him a try out

IMO the Dorn is a cool vehicle, but you almost can't beat just taking 2 russ tanks in it's place. BUT Rule of Cool beats better rules IMO.

Element games gang get you gw models faster than gw can, for cheaper! I wish I learned this earlier!!!. I am currently making a space wolf army and they also had stuff that gw was out of stock!
I've got very bad luck with straken. One ork biker with big choppa had a fantastic roll and Ive failed all saves so he killed me on the spot xD

I'd like to see an army with Ogryns/Bullgryns as backbone. TBH from the title I expected more big guys in your combat army. Are they really that bad? I found it always sad that those friendly giants just never found their place in the meta... at least not in the times I was in 40k.
However I'd really like to see a guard infantry army on low body count.
Although it's kinda funny to see cheap imperial soldiers beating dedicated melee armies on their own ground.
I was wondering about as close to a pure auxiliary army as possible. With the right choices you can have 3 squads each of ogryns and bullgryns and command squads and commissars with bodyguards.
If I remember right lord commander im-on-a-horse can issue orders to auxilia units so would be the best choice as a warlord.
@@locarno24 I don't like the lord solar. I mean, he's a very cool miniature, but I don't see him fitting in my interpretation of the guard. But if you just need regimental orders for the Big'uns you just need to give a commissar the warlord trait that gives him regimental orders and maybe that relic that gives him one additional order per round. You don't need to pay 170 points for character that comes with a bunch of abilities you don't need. Get yourself a commissar for 40points instead and let him run with your Gryns... maybe accompanied by a bodyguard to give your opponent an additional mini-boss to deal with in melee. But that are just my on-paper-thoughts, might be that I overlook something that drastically changes the outcome.
And on top: Leontus feels kinda like an overkill if you just use him for the Gryns imo. And he fits way better with rough riders )being cavalry himself) and use your fast movement. The commissar also has one plus point you can put 3 Gryns and a commissar into a chimera or taurox having a self contained thing that works on its own (without the bodyguard tho).
That's at least how I see it on paper... haven't played a game since 7th edition that was so broken that it spoiled my whole game experience by creating a bunch of situations that just didn't feel right (ie. 100 Orks mangled in close combat by 30 conscripts with preacher due to a broken initiative system).

Jeez those tables. 6x large L shaped ruins, 4x smaller L shaped ruins, 2x stacks of containers and 4x areas of dense. I see what you mean about barely being able to move a vehicle
In some of the pictures, under the tables there appeared to be some really nice terrain too.
I completely agree, too much terrain makes the game unbalanced favoring combat armies which the guard struggle to be unless you got a bunch of rough riders haha
Even then if the rough riders get charged by a melee unit you're going to lose most of them, which is what happened to most of my rough riders whenever they get charged and I've ended up taking them out as a result
It also looks like terrain like you played needed indirect fire. Mortars can slow down units with a strategy and four hits, if I recall correctly.
I believe what you're thinking about is Supression fire, the mechanized order that halves movement and charges, the infantry version is -2 to movement and charges
