  • You fix these things by changing your identity. I kind of lost my articulation at the end there, but the point is if you want to be more consistent, becoming religious is the way to do it.

    From the Orthodox community:
There was a monk on Mt. Athos who would drink and get drunk daily, causing much scandal to visiting pilgrims. When he finally died, some of them told St. Paisios how relieved they were to have this problem taken care of.
He informed them that he knew the monk had passed because he witnessed the great number of angels carrying him to Heaven. They thought he was surely confused and must've been thinking of someone else, but he then told them the monk's story. The monk was born at a time when boys were being taken from their families by Turks. His parents, not wanting this to happen, would put alcohol in his milk so that he would sleep and not make noise when the gatherings happened. Thus, he grew up an alcoholic.
When he came to be a monk, he explained to his elder that he was an alcoholic. The elder advised him to do prostrations every night and ask Mary for help in reducing his consumption by one glass.
After a year of struggle and repentance he managed to reduce from 20 to 19. Then over the years he got it down to 2-3.
What the world saw as a scandalous drunken monk, God saw as a brave fighter who struggled long against his passions.
Let this warn us in not quickly judging others and also encourage us when we fall, that we never stop fighting. God sees our fight.

Imo, i think its almost certain that there is a God (the objective version). Following the logic of the laws of motion: that an object stays still unless acted upon by another force, and just observing that the whole universe is in motion or even if you choose to think that the big bang is probably true, there would have to be something that, in a sense, pushes the first domino. That force being defined as God. Not necessarily how ppl repesent God as looking like a human, but rather as a being that has motives for setting things in motion. Following this train of thought or other ones that lead you to this conclusion is where you get different theologies or religions. And each one has diff ideas of what is true. Agnosticism is, like Gerby says, a cheap way of thinking. A cut off of that train of thought, but tbh its not expected that evryone has the best understanding of God, what matters is seeking the truth. Ultimately what matters most is what you do rather than what you say. Everyone thinks, but not everyone does.

Technically you're right, but your argument hinges on a presupposition, that could always be wrong, so you're making a logical leap of faith, which is not the way logic works.
My issue with this framing specifically, which is that it's always from a human beings perspective. We are biased to think that a being had to initiate the universe, but why? Because we are beings? Why couldn't some indeterminate force have hit the first domino? Why couldn't it be a self sustaining endless cycle?
Technically, being agnostic is the only logically sound position, and I'm saying that as an atheist lol Only I, as an atheist, and you as a theist, are the ones taking a stance and cutting off the other possibilitys, because without hard evidence, we are just making assumptions, usually to reconfirm our own biases. You can be agnostic and still have a more nuanced position then some apolitical fence sitter

as a Christian, not only am I giving a clear meaning to life, but i am also promised by the bible that if I put god first and seek to live my life the way he made me to, I WILL fulfill the meaning he intended. He will take all my mistakes and work them FOR me, not against me, and that he will take the evil that has been done against me and that I've done for myself and use them for my good.
HOWEVER, what's good for me often isn't what FEELS good for me. I've had many tears in the last few years alone. The bible promises there will be many struggles in the world, but I am promised to overcome them in God. The bible also says no discipline feels pleasant at the time, but it will yield a harvest. Some of my pain in life is there for the purpose of growing me.
I am not promised a Wife, a promotion, 6-pack abs. Believe me, I'm fighting to achieve those things, but my God comes first. Also, I've learned the hard way that God asks that we pray AND act. the bible says things along the lines of "we act BECAUSE of our faith." I have really suffered for praying for god to hand me certain things, like a Wife, while not putting in any effort towards talking the girls and such things. God wants a relationship with us, and part of that relationship is overcoming struggles and challenges TOGETHER, Like how soldiers become closer then their own famiily when they bleed and cry together on the battlefield.

As a christian, that's true. I myself am typing from a hospital bed RN with an IV in my arm, gone through a splenectomy, tons of transfusions, just at 26 i spent probably more time in a hospital than most do in their lives. However, knowing there's a God who is taking care of everything and already has used my illness for greater goods is heartwarming.
i did watch some of Gerb's videos and i like many of his takes, however he needs to find God. And based on this video that's the path he's taking. Admitting that we all worship something and him finding atheism to be cringe, suggests to me that he's getting there. I'm gonna start praying for him.
However i'll add one thing to what he said about something always being the god of your life. That's not only the real reason of mos ppl's unbelief (don't want there to be a God cuz ppl want to be gods of their own lives), but when we worship anything other than the creator himself, something finite will take his place in our hearts, something that we unlike God, can lose, and it's gonna make us controlling and fearful of losing it, and if we do, we'll crash.
Your identity is tied to whatever you give your heart to the most, and when you put your identity, in the one who created you, who died on a cross for your sins and offers you life everlasting, you can rest easy that you will not lose that identity cuz God's always gonna be with you. And you can rest easy even in such hard situations like the one i'm having now (that i addressed at the beggining of the comment) I hope and pray one day that happens to Gerb here, and thankfully it seems he's on the path to finding Christ and recieving forgiveness in his name.

He's made this woman the center of his ENTIRE life and now he's losing it.

      I'll pray for your healing. Philiipians 4:6-7 do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God.       @@MrTheguywithalife Dude, you finished your comment on a "finishing the conversation" tone but i GOTTA talk about your friend. My sister has an ex who used to be just like that with her, and that's why he's her ex, and i know how much it sucks. But is clear to me, that God's stripping her away from your coworker TO drive him to despair so that with YOU in his life, you will drive him to the ONE who is the only one that can fill his heart completely;
I have a friend who told me literally that he had sex "tooooooons" of times, used to see women as nothing but meatsacks for his sexual pleasure, was a compulsive liar, and when his life fell appart due to his choices, he bended the knees, asked Jesus for forgiveness, repented of his sins to then, follow God and was saved. Maybe God's doing the same with your friend. This friend of mine said that this is a very common conversion pattern for ppl who live very ungodly lives, the person's life falls appart due to their choices, they're driven to a point of no choice but repentance or suicide, then they choose to repent and then get saved.
So my advice to you is to wait, and pray that this girl and the guy split, and God uses that to wake him up to see he made a God out of her, and that's when you (or any christian in his life) come in to introduce him to the true God Jesus Christ.
And let's pray for Gerby 2gether for his repentance and salvation ;)

Gerby I followed a similar path to you but I’m a little older at 26. I was born in a Christian family and got blue-pilled/atheist in college, but found my way to the red and then black pill. The story is super long but much like you, the black pill eventually drove me to find Christianity and hope again. When I found your videos you inspired me to make my own videos (haven’t gotten around to it yet), because you were so insightful and wise about modern issues and self-improvement, but I felt you were missing the most important thing, which is religion and God. I had hoped to make my own content as a response but with that missing ingredient of religion.
I prayed for you and when I saw your most recent video on the main channel I began getting really excited because you alluded to changes in your content and the solution to staleness and I had a feeling you were going to bring faith and religion into it. Very happy to see my suspicions confirmed. I’m super proud of you man, sharing this stuff is tough and I’m so happy you’re pursuing and finding the truth.
Concerning the video, you absolutely nailed it, that the self-improvement space is about making yourself your own god. I came to that conclusion as well.
To add to the conversation on black pilling: I was so convinced that the most pessimistic outlook was the most true and nothing mattered, but to live a good life you had to buy into the lie that things mattered. At some point I realized that a good life can’t be fundamentally based on lies. And almost no one actually lives their life while truly emotionally and intellectually believing that nothing matters, because if you did you would commit unliving or do absolutely nothing. At some point you gotta use Occam’s razor and realize that the reason it’s helpful to live your life like things matter might be because they actually do.

@@benravenwood8535Because when you really try to take the black pill you realize that there are only 2 options: kill yourself or find something to believe in and reject the black pill.
You might think there’s a third option, which is to live stoically and reduce or bravely face your own suffering. But the problem is why? Just to put off death a little bit longer? If you want to live your life, squeezing as much joy out of it as possible while improving yourself, that in itself is an admission that your life matters to you and that there is hope for change, which is anti blackpill by definition. As Gerby points out, however, you can’t do that without a really strong reason, otherwise you’ll just have your ups and downs, trying to self improve with no real reason for why other than your own emotional state, which fluctuates regardless of what you do. You’ll keep going back to blasting your meat to smithereens on the hub, because the only reason not to is a past version of you said he didn’t want to, and who cares what that guy thinks?
Essentially, the black pill lead me to Christianity the same way the blue pill lead me to the red pill: I realized it was a lie and found the alternative.

I will be praying for you Gerbert. You are a young handsome dedicated man, and you have a bright future ahead of you. You seem so unspirited and I understand. Many, if not most, goals are done in vain, but even so, its still self improvement, and thats better than no improvement. In the simplest way possible, Ive found being happy is being grateful for what you have. Peope should focus on what makes you happy. Simple things in life go so far. Take a walk around the park, take a bike ride and feel the cool breeze rushing on your face, look at the tall trees, and eat with friends. Truthfully, its not always about women, but fellowship as well. Having friends and someone there to listen about your day is so simple yet so amazing. I really mean this. Having friends with you when doing anything makes it 10x better.
John 15:12-13. "My command is this: Love each other as I have loved you. Greater love has no one than this: to lay down one's life for one's friends."
I truly believe that everyone is capable of joyful happiness, and I hope you can see this as well, and possibly go a little more to the redpill side.
God bless whoever reads this, and just know, I believe in you, I KNOW you can do this. I really do.

This is a tough callout for me. Religion has been forced on me my entire life, and in the last two years I have done a lot better in fitness, relationships, and personal grwoth as I've stopped letting religion rule my life. However, I would say my biggest problem besides lack of a relationship is my ego, and thinking about the timeline, I thought it was because I'm insanely proud of the progress I've made in the last two years. But you're right. I've made myself into a god. Self-improvement is all about ego and me. I need to work on being more humble and while I'm not sure I'm ready to be more religious, it's definitely something I will be more intention on and think about.

Thanks for another banger video Gerby, I myself reached this conclusion not too long ago.
Turns out any justifications and motivations I make up in order to motivate myself to seek self improvement not only can be disproved by enough rationalization and self-questioning, but also lose effectiveness with time, since I - and I believe others on my path as well - really want to see results as soon as possible and can't really make peace with the fact that this is a long process. Then I often repeat myself: "what else can I use? What could possibly be a source of motivation so strong that could make me soldier on despite all the anxiety and doubts?" and the only answer that comes to me after so long is "strong, unwavering faith".
Some of my friends seem to be able to do that even without religion, with one of them pretty much schizo'ing his way through, while another notable friend is pretty much the embodiment of the saying "I have God and anime at my side". It's pretty amusing and perhaps this is the way to go.
Unfortunately, I have not yet found this faith, so I still struggle. May I one day also find faith.

When this video came out my world crashed and burned in a way.
It made me realize why I always kept falling back into bad old habits, but gave no clear solution.
I mean, yes gerbert says that it's to find something to believe in, in specific a religion. But problem is I'm (not) a believer, nor an atheist.
And that all placed me in the situation I'm currently in, and you also I suppose. I've gotten very anxious, since I don't have a belief. I feel that because of this indefrence I'm a quiet and undecided person, I don't know what I want.
Of course coping isn't a way to live, and it's still worth to try your best at improving. But self discipline only ever takes you so far, it's actually why we are here in the first place!

It's like a community of "purity" not that they're perfect but the amount of wise men I have access to talking and asking questions to is privilege to the highest degree.
I think the best rules for finding a church is one that preaches from the bible, does not deny core things like Jesus being god and hell being real, and even seemingly less important things like the definition of love and homosexuality being a sin. The def of love being (in my own words based of the bible) self-sacrificial acts for the benefit of whoever is receiving the love that you're giving.

You don‘t seem to understand Nietzsche, you place him as the anti-god when he yet in fact mourned the very death of god that he is so described as having championed-simply because he did not champion the institution and „Priesterklasse“ behind the concept of god.
You believe in god because your brain is designed to find patterns to survive. Combine this with conscious interpretation and the human nature to self-referentially perceive the world, and suddenly you quickly get mystical meanings and messages… especially if you eat the wrong mushrooms in the forest and begin to habitually mix this practice into your beliefs.
Nietzsche‘s point was the only thing that differs man from animal is that man has the ability to promise… and to break these promises. Religion is, per Nietzsche, a somewhat necessary evil as the idea of the Übermensch is likely not ever to be realisable for the everyman. The practice of expressing The Will to Power (an expression of the acceptance and the integration of all one‘s experiences as a matter of eternal recurrence into a sort of mythology of oneself, somewhat of a self-deification and the vigorous affirmation of one‘s fate… whilst not becoming passive and remaining still a positive fatalist-all for the purpose of overcoming oneself and attaining a true freedom not reliant upon external circumstance [a sort of nirvana] and thus in any given moment realising as much of one‘s autarchy as possible [being as fully conscious as possible…]) is Nietzsche‘s answer to this… Using religion is, per Nietzsche, an almost tribal method of morality and barbaric… it‘s an ancient practice, appealing to our basest of nature and for the lowest common denominator and the followers of it stand in direct contrast with the image of the Übermensch, as it is a morality for lesser men (Untermenschen) incapable (either due to feebleness, ignorance, insanity, or stupidity) of forging their own morality and living by a self-determined code based on the integration of their experiences for the purpose of overcoming themselves and pursuing the great ideal of what one could become in isolation-not per the judgement of a specific system, sect, society, culture, etc… A Caesar in a world full of the Brutus.
Per Nietzsche, religion is almost archaic. It appeals to the basest of urges within each of us and is almost a disease of the mind as it prevents one from in some cases thinking for themselves and thus stifles greatness… but is almost necessary for the dumb masses, until a new system is needed after the majority of society becomes atheist. Religion is like the default mode, it is animalistic, it is programmed with us, it exists innately within our biology as I have illustrated and is the easy way out. Nietzsche‘s answer is philosophy, and the pursuit of the realisation of the self. That every man and woman become as capable of overcoming themselves as possible, so that they can exercise their full effectiveness in pursuit of their own greatness at any time-which I am clearly doing by writing this past 3 AM when I clearly have homework. Per Nietzsche, to accomplish this task proxy ideals that transcend the self is cheating and results in a lack of insight and a sort of sleepwalking state. You are the total of your experience, and you must accept this and integrate that without help in doing so via the promise of an afterlife… you have to accept the good and bad things that have happened to you and that you have done as they are both part of you and they are you, you have to affirm the reality of these things and of your fate that they will in some way, shape, or form, repeat or be mirrored for the rest of your life as per the innate qualities of your character and behaviour and you must learn to love this and thus yourself, without the help of something outside the self, or you will never be able to overcome yourself nor to truly achieve something beyond the self and to transcend the self and to achieve Übermenschlichkeit.
In short, for Nietzsche, you are your own god. You are god. Every man is and should become his own god, and that god, the total integration of all that individual‘s experiences in towards a never-ending affirmation of life and appreciation of one‘s fate without complacency such as to attain a true freedom-independent of laws, religion, and morality, etc.

Basically, you're probably doomed to failure when you see yourself as a "god" because when you are both the one who makes the rules and the one who must follow them you're going to have a hard time not letting yourself give up for the temptations. So what non-religious people do to have success is following external set of rules from philosophy, self-improvement videos, thematic social groups etc. We as humans always thinking in comparison and we need to know whether is what we are doing is good or bad and when you're deciding what's bad or not, you're going to find yourself in an infinite loop of not knowing what to do anymore. Atheists often say that they are free from bounds of religion but it's better to say that they are free to make or choose their own set of rules in life which is really hard thing to do but it's not impossible. A person who fail to have their own set of rules start to find themself in consumerism and escaping reality.

Hamza is kinda selfish thought. He's largely just in it for the money and fame and status. thats what he preaches as well, not very rightious advice. He's done good, he says good things, be he shows he's a little something different than what he preaches. kinda like this video says, he's egoic and preaches it. Cause thats what this world asks for apperantly. that i agree with, doesn't mean that thats the higher rightious path. Hamza doesn not qualify as a religous person in my books at all.

I stopped listening to Hamza the minute he started selling his "course". It seemed like a plan to get depressed needy young men to pay him. Not to mention his whole "I'm better than most men" attitude. Even if it is true in some ways it felt off. I consider him an Andrew Tate clone.

I've thought the same ever since I realised the truth through the example of fasting. As a Muslim, I've grown up with it so every Ramadan it's second nature. My agnostic friend joined in this year for a few weeks or so for her own personal reasons but when I compared the amount of struggle I experienced and how it weighed on me, it was not nearly as much of a burden as it was to her. And then I think about my silly diets. I could never stick to them and I almost used to wish I could have my self - improvement rituals under the context of religion. Because nothing can keep you to your word better than God - and when you take him out of the equation you only have yourself, whom you are painfully aware of all shortcomings and easily bend rules for.
She says she's not religious; and I get that. As Gerbert said in the video, not everyone's cut out for it. But then I see her getting into that new-age spiritual stuff and witchcraft and hear her talk about the 'universe' or some vague creator and I can't help but see someone just searching for religion blindfolded. I feel that a lot of agnostics are like that.

It is enjoyable to see gerby grow into a confident, real, developed philosopher at such a young age. Everything stated in this video is proof of thousands of hours he has put into developing his perspective. Which is the most important aspect, because while society did cater towards the monogamous productivity through fear and discipline that made life harder in a technologically narrowed capacity, we now live in an era where the abundance if potential has never been higher. It honestly is a party that will not last forever, because it is so self centered of a society, it won't look out for and care about systems that keep it afloat, and as more people plummet into poverty, only those who adapted during the times of abundance to becoming hyper productive, will afford to live in the lifestyle of a quickly closing minority.
You are your habits, your scope of imagination is only as deep as your collections of friends, and food is medicine.

Do not be afraid of what you are about to suffer. I tell you, the devil will put some of you in prison to test you, and you will suffer persecution for ten days. Be faithful, even to the point of death, and I will give you life as your victor’s crown. Revelations 2:10. My favourite passage of the bible, what keeps me going sometimes. Youre absolutely right, this made made me do a lot of reflection.
I think this self-improvement trend is the product of an individualistic society.
The west, and our generation in particular, seems to glorify being 'special'. A persons worth is derived from validation from others. Just thinnk about all the "high value" bullshit you hear from the redpill.
Humans arent meant to be perfect. Being desirable is not the endgoal. One of the most important parts of religion is not letting your ego take over and that is fundamentally the opposite these more modern values.

Working out was made egoic by these goofy ass only looks matter influencers, but to Plato the only purpose of working out was to get stronger, because it's natural for men to aim for a stronger body whilst is natural to women to get concerned about vanity. For real men the good appearence of a healthier body should be only the consequence not the goal itself.

It's not a belief in religion that's innate, per se. It's the desire to understand our environment, which itself is driven by an innate desire for control and self-preservation. In the absence of alternative explanations for environmental phenomena, we turn to religion or similar, but it is not the belief in religion itself that is innate.

Something you said in particular really resonated with me, the fact that you have to realize how flawed you are and how weak you can be is something really important to improve and get better as a human being, I don't personally believe in God as we know it, but I recognize the incredible value religion has brought to humanity, if there was no religion we probably wouldn't have conquered the earth as a species. I am what you would call an agnostic. Truly we live in the best of times but we are the most depressed or we think we are at least, even tho most of us don't know what suffering from famine means or what going to war feels like ecc.. We complain so much because we can, because we are humans, because we are flawed and weak. Wish you the best man and keep on going.
