The Guardsmen are holding the line and not being mere meatshields, 10/10

I love how Saber interactive is really pushing the WWZ horde engine to its limits. the game can render a massive horde of both tyranid and guardsmen which really sets the entire battlefield to a larger scale without the sacrifice of graphical fidelity
This is what keeps gaming alive, devs so passionate they creat proprietary engines for their work.

Wh40k has always focussed way to much on the tactical.level with a few units....when the lore dictates massive armies
@@F4Wildcat like that one game where you were a librarian killing tyranids with an ai squad. There was a mission where supposedly lots of other marines were dropping with you and when it started there wasn’t another marine in sight. I can already tell I’m going to love this game.
Yes. Love it!
Honestly this isn't different, a large battles played out outside the tiny playable tileset and was ended by a bombardment you had no power over, essentially it was all just vfx around you and the gameplay was you killing 5 guys. My Space Marine fantasy looks different.
I like how you can help protect the guardsmen by charging into the swarm and drawing their attention, allowing the guard to shoot them from a distance.
Really cool detail.
The Imperium would get a lot more done if individual factions stopped thinking of themselves
The game should have a high difficulty mode where you play as a Salamander instead (the space marine chapter, not the animal) and are forced to go out of your way and do all kind of risky stuff to protect guardsmen and civilians.
@@vampir753 that would be a cool dlc or a multiplayer horde/story mode. Almost like halo odst/reach; when you’re not really the “main” character but a huge part of the story in a way

I just love how in the background of 0:55 you can see the thousands of las bolts being fired; just picture perfect example of what the guard does best.
I love the dodges. It showcases how fast Space Marines truly are. And then the Cadians are badass. They're actually a competent force here compared to the first game.
To be fair, by the time you reach them in the first game, they're already at the end of their rope. They had no proper air support, no reinforcements, their commanders were all dead, and the Orks had them outnumbered by a massive margin. You taking out the planetary defense cannon was just enough to make a small window to send extra troops, supplies, and vehicles on the ground by the Imperial Navy, who were fighting the Ork fleet in orbit 24/7. You were fighting alongside an exhausted, under-staffed, and under-supplied Guard regiment who was the last remaining resistance in the city you were deployed in.
Here, it seems like you're fighting alongside a Guard regiment whose strength hasn't been exhausted by non-stop fighting yet, complete with a detachment of armored vehicles, and air support. Given that this is a Tyranid invasion and was likely foreseen by Psykers, the Imperial forces here had plenty of time to hunker down and prepare their defenses before the shadow in the Warp blocks off all Warp travel for the Imperium. So here we get to see the Guard go head-to-head with the enemy with their full arsenal.
THAT really looks like a battlefield.
I also like how they support the player with artillery, tanks and infantery, it really gives the essence that you aren't alone in that planet.
I hope the final work will look like this
Yeah, that was the biggest flaw in the original imo. "Why TF am I doing this by myself, again...?"
I mean yeah it looks really good but the number of nids pouring in is nowhere near the amount the dude is fighting, if I see a battle I kinda wanna see what’s actually happening to what I’m seeing, I get they definitely can’t make that many actual enemies or it’d crash the game with how good this looks but idk I kinda would like something, it doesn’t have to be much other than just not obscuring the enemies right before they get to you to fill that gap in what you see and what happens
Agreed, the combined arms touch is a really neat detail.
This is probably only for like one mission in the game then youre back to being alone doing your "covert" missions... hope im wrong though

I love how the tyranids are portrayed in large scale. And to imagine that these specimens have little adaptations. I’d love to see the swarm change subtly over the course of the game.
Lore accurate Tyranids would make it a very short game :D Remember what happened in Macragge, one of the best defended worlds in the Imperium, the Tyranids pretty much came in and brute forced through most of the defences.
Also if I remember correctly, one of the first times when fighting against the Imperial Guard the Tyranids evolved to sweat some kind of slime/goo like substance that gave them extremely high resistance to heat based weapons, i.e. the Lasgun. And this happened within hours of the encounter.
Admitedly it would be interesting if the hardest difficulty made the Tyranids adapt in real time. Use the Bolter too much they get heavy armoured carapaces to tank the shots, goo sweat for Meltas and ranged focused if you melee too much. Granted that would be a pain to pull off, mechanics wise, but it's fun to dream.
@@omnissiah7247 true the game would be very short
@@omnissiah7247 it could sort of pull it off by creating sections where previous encounter area would take what equipment you have to alter the next sections spawns. unless you mean resistances mid combat in which case we'd just end up with Sentients from Warframe that do that.
@@omnissiah7247The things is, according to Lore ( Lexicanum and warhammer 40k Wikia ), no race in the Galaxy can hope to match the full force of the Imperial Guard and Space Marines combined.
Orks and Tyranids are the most numerous races in the gakaxy, but in terms of vehicles and large guns, Imperial Guard takes the cake.
If you give enough time for the Imperial Guard to mobilize Tanks, artillery, aircraft and to request Titans from Forge worlds, even Tyranids cant stand a chance to win. War40k its ridicolous speaking about numbers, and the Guard can mobilize thousands of Tanks in a single planet, and im not sure if you know what means "thousands" of Tanks rolling down a hill.
If you read the Lore, Imperial Guard its the mskt successful force in thr gakaxy because of their heavy guns
@panzerrjcb I am very dubious the Nids can quickly outnumber Imperial forces if that's what they wanted to do
Finally another game that gets that being a one-man army is only half as cool as being a super soldier with an army at your back, watching you tear through surrounded by guardsmen is fantastic
it make you fell worthy and usefull cause you see how you are carrying the momentum and fighting your way throught as the others advance or end up safe by your side.
You know we are gonna play this like we played Halo... SAVE EVERY GUARDSMAN !
Yes, scaling is what makes the 40k universe so fascinating.
Makes me thing more of how to not let these guardsmen die and being annoyed how stupidly they run into their death insteaf of taking defense positions and try to survive and fight as long as possible.
When you just run in and die instantly, you not only waste your own life for nothing, you also hurt the side you are fighting for, since while you may die anyway, if you fight smart you could have taken some of those attackers with you.
Really puts into perspective how wild the Imperium is for expecting or even *demanding* average joe humans like us to charge up to the frontlines alongside your Astartes against a foe like the Tyranids.
This looks incredible! I love how all the units look like they're working together and as a team instead of just fodder and filler.
The ambient sounds are very quiet, there is no feeling that there is a war around, I hope to fix this, it greatly spoils the immersion.
I am so happy that the guard are represented so well in this (and the prior) SM game. Its nice to see the guard fighting bravely alongside (and without) the help of the marines to defend the planet.

Finaly some ai game can KILL ALOT OF ENEMY =)
Every step the space marine takes feels like there is weight and power behind it. The imperial guard around you is just icing on the cake. And the guardsmen look beefier as well, they're there to deal as much death to the enemy with what they are capable off and you're there to see that they carry out there job.
And you're here to save them ALL ! Reminds me of saving marines in Halo.
the spacemarine moves as if it is about to crap from overexertion ... what nonsense ... the books describe in detail that people who see a spacemarine are literally in shock from cognitive dissonance, since their brain is not able to accept the fact that, with its size and mass, the spacemarine move with amazing speed and ease! the developers of this game obviously didn't bother to read the WARKHAMMER 40,000 books!

Seeing tens upon tens of thousands of creatures just warring with each other and humans is crazy to see. I don’t think I’ve ever seen a game capture such an unbelievably massive scale of warfare before. It really adds to the feeling of being on a planet that’s completely overrun. So many games have tried and failed at this exact same thing and this is the first game I’ve seen to really pull it off and have an ambiance of total war.
It feels like the technology has finally arrived at a point where something with the scale and ambition of warhammer 40k can be done properly.

There’s a reason Tyranids are attacking that planet specifically, I bet you it has to do with the first games plot.
Biomass.
Probbably going to focus on charicter stuggle & overcoming adversity. Perhaps Titus must contend with the lingering s u s from his previous chaos accusations too.
My thoughts exactly, they should have pushed the GS cult angle, one of the more interesting in the universe imho.
Nids story is more so is characters reacting to getting wiped out by nids
this looks amazing, seeing imperial guard working with space marines is a thing of beauty. I love how they kneel down to the sms. , the size scale is spot on. The scale of war is on point, its like a 40k novel put to screen so well. The only thing id say that needs work is the ambient audio needs to be lounder. Some of the shell fire wasn't that far away and was very quite, it should rock the entire screen and ears lol. In the novels often war is told to be soo loud no one can even hear orders from people next to each other, so i hope they improve that aspect of the game.
completely agree, audio was a lil off
Maybe its on a slider?
Remember when he said "Reloading weapon"? That was cool
Absolutely agree about the audio part, felt like everything was just quiet enough to allow characters to speak calmly in the middle of an intense warzone. Basically everything (mostly the weapons) should be louder except for dialogue. Idk if tyranids are supposed to make a lot of noise or not, but I found them surprisingly quiet too
Honestly the only thing that I'm slightly grumpy about is how many times I heard "RELOADING" , I mean they have a neural link to there fellow space marines so they don't actually have to say anything.. they already know.. it's one of the many things that make them so formidable.
They can plan out a whole battle right next to you and you would never know.. what's happening..
We'll see what the final product looks like, but the sense of scale in this preview footage is absolutely amazing.
Also, can they please include an option to wear a helmet in game? It always irritated me that it wasn't possible to do so in the first Space Marine.
i've heard of texture pop-ins, but those guardsmen's shadows being flown in from orbit was unexpected... (0:36 to the right of the objective blip)
The scale of these battles is crazy! You really get the feeling that you are part of a massive firefight, but at the same time the sheer size of Space Marines (showcased when standing next to run-of-the-mill guardsmen) makes you feel powerful as hell. My only gripe is that I hope they flesh out the melee combat a bit more so that its not the same 2 or 3 hit combo every time. No matter how heavy and weighty the melee feels it will get old fast if there's not variety or skill/strategy involved
Oh you mean each combo has different style.
I agree but at the same time I'm just happy to see a little bit of melee combat with a nice counter and execution ^^
yup, batman games are super addicting because you can press the same combo and 100x styles of the same move make the game so much more appealing. if I use the same move over and over it gets boring real quick.
Where's the scale? Locations shown in the video are not open, it's just a single narrow path. The number of enemies is also low. If you want to see a horde in action look at L4D 2, for example. Then come back to this video and see that there's no more than 15-20 enemies on screen at any given time.
This preview killed any excitement I had for the game, as it looks like just like the first one with "better" graphics. Gameplay-wise it looks like a slog.
I don't ever remember reading about Space Marines taking orders from some pathetic imperial guard. I didn't think they even worked together. The marines talk about reloading way too much.
Looks amazing! Also hoping we eventually get an imperial guard game at one point that is much more focused on using the environment and tactics to overcome the nightmares of the 41st millennium. Maybe something like republic commando where we can give simplistic orders from first person. A story, choice based inquisition game would also be fun.
Imperial guard game would be sick, Just surviving battle after battle and getting recognised for your service to the emperor, and its gotta play as one of the boys from kreig.
Republic commando, that's a name I havent heard in a long time,I see you are also a man of culture.
It would be pretty awesome to have squad oriented WH game where you give out orders to squadies republic commando style.
I could see that being like The All Guardsmen Party.
Catachans brother
No, Imperial Guard game like Brothers in Arms: Hell's Highway
The best part for me is being part of a bigger war!!!
It is always players.vs hordes even in World War Z.
Having the guardsman fight with you brings a whole lot of charm especially in a well crafted Campaign.
the graphic fidelity is sexy right? my english lol
@@glenferrieroadhawthorn Indeed! I can already hear my PC and GPU crying.
5:00 I love guns with little spinning bits while they fire!
It looks great, I hope they work some more on the sound though, those big explosions for example did not make any noise.
I sincerely wish we will have the option to do all this with helmets equipped. Listening to space marines yell "FOR THE EMPEROR" in their iconic helmet megaphone while playing this game will make me get the best chills known to man.
You can put the helmet from game settings
@@kingsleyr7387 Thank you for confirming
@@kingsleyr7387that’s awesome
The transitions from melee to ranged combat are pretty smooth and quick. This looks awesome
It looks the same as the first game. Are you a shilldog or just a hyper?
@@IvO09and you just a sad hater
Now this is A GAME! It’s exactly how you expect it to look and the details of all pieces and actually having guardsmen not being fodder speaks volumes to the this. All round view from the video, 9/10! - also the guard men’s vehicles are some of the most beautiful pieces ive seen. I do look forward to the TAU coming back without warning to help with their advanced technology
Did you see how guardsmen slide instead of taking steps? Some mele attack also looked out of sync. I kinda expected more after the trailer.
no one gonna talk about the Chad speed walking at the start?
damn this is like one of w40k novels being brought right into our screens.... the scale of the battle is insane. Cant wait to see what tyranids bio-forms or other factions will appear. This is massive win for all w40k fans. Just hope we can turn off as much of the HUD, enemy marking/highlighting as possible for the maximal immersion...
Is it bad that I also want to wear the helmet, at least?
as someone who's read one of those Novels, i can agree. I WANT THIS FOR CHRISTMAS!!!
Let's hope that is an option @@AliMiguelEldnit
@@AliMiguelEldnit on in gameplay off during cutscenes would be great option to have
using the World War Z engine was a genuine stroke of brilliance. seeing an overwhelming tide of Tyranids pouring over the hill is the only accurate way to do this game
I hope Guardsman have more of a role in this. I love fighting massive fights with a couple of heros and having; let's be honest, Meatgrinders to fill in. Just the scale is impressive
You can even play as latrine digger 64168009 and valiantly attack the beasts with your shovel.
@@serronserron1320 only in death does duty end. Carry on Guardsman
Would be cool to get like an 3D enxylopedia of all the tyranid forms, pdf units etc
Fingers crossed for boss fights to include Carnifex Brood, Mawloc and Swarm lord/ hive tyrant. Any other big Tyranid monsters would be just amazing
I love how they seemed to create an actual melee system with parrying and dodge mechanics with enemies doing the same all while utter chaos is happening all around you also I love how they make you fight with guardsmen to emphasize that the space marines are truly a different breed and are looked to as saviors by the guardsmen
you never will fight with them they are just scripted non interactive dummies
I liked how in the original Rogue Trader, an entire 3 hour tabletop game represented 90 seconds to 2 minutes of combat. Highlighted the reflexes of Astartes and Eldar and casualties of Orks and Guard
Sería chido en el lodo campaña pudieras elegir entre varios space marine ya sea de la legión de las salamandras o alguna otra aparte de los ultramar
Pros:
New combat abilities, new weapons, graphics look good, bolter sounds good. Set pieces look awesome.
Cons:
How come 90% of the explosions don't have sound (in fact everything BUT Titus seemed so quiet as to be muted)? Combat looks too slow compared to the original (I didn't come here to shoot green balloons). Your companions seem to do a LOT of the fighting for you rather than being support. Combat should be more hectic, tyranid hordes are supposed to be more numerous and have more variety than ork hordes, but in the orginal you were constantly going NUTS trying to evade attacks, hit the enemy, and get the executions to recover health. Here it just seemed like "I'm walking, oh look an alien. Guess I'll shoot it. bang...I guess. Back to walking"
I love how some of the guardsmen are complimenting you as you fight if you can catch a glimpse of the "such divine magnificence" at 2:16
The sight of a never ending wave of Nids scaling from the top to the sides or mountains in cinematic and clear visual splendor.. ITS AMAZING!
I adore that pistol quickdraw as a counter move.
2:00 Truer words have never been spoken.
3:29 "The Eighth never miss." Did I hear that right? Is the 8th Cadian regiment back in service since Cadia fell?
Yup yup!!!
Less of a lore line but the "We can't hold them!" Sounds like it was taken straight out of the first Dawn of War.
@@potatolord8444"consider it done" also reminds me of DoW, if they included references like these all over the game it will be great
It looks fantastic, the only thing that's lacking might be the sound.
The guns feel a little lack luster/muted and the guardsmen speak rather softly for what's going on around them.
welp these are cadians they of course talk like that in such situations since they are trained and hardened for such things since childhood.
I was going to say, I wish the bolter was roaring
@@the_bane_of_all_anti_furry
Which is well and good for staying calm, but when there are hundreds of men firing laz guns and space marines popping bolters and heavy vehicles flying over head and tanks firing vollies of heavy shells. The idea isn't whether or not you can speak calmly, you yell so that others can actually hear you.
The chainsword sounds like a cheap lawnmower I want to hear it roar!
@@the_bane_of_all_anti_furryI get what you mean but there was clearly and audio imbalance when the guards were talking, they were pretty difficult to hear over the rest of the game.
I’m not a 40k person but through mtg I’ve slowing learning the universe.
This game looks awesome and I would definitely consider buying it
The Warhammer mtg deck my buddy has is actually pretty brutal
Hopefully, there's an option that allows you to toggle the helmet on/off
Love it but one thing i gotta point out
1:25 "sending coordinates to your auspex display"
Titus: Not wearing a helmet
Ok
This looks sick! At 7:11 the marine says, "You have yet to see the worst" and the other marine replies "Oh, I look forward to it" 😂😂😭😭
I bet that smack-talking homie gets digested later.
Looks incredible. But think they still have to add the allies las gun sound effects in
This preview was incredible. The literal only thing I would change is the animation when the Marines walk off of a ledge onto a lower level, and if that sounds nitpicky its because everything else was great
The background/landscape is sinfully amazing it makes the foreground where you are 10x more immersive! The art direction of this game is supernatural.
Swarm Engine at its finest baby
Just love the size difference between the Marine and Imperial guard.
0:30 i read it as assist the Canadians in defense
I created a new universe called TransHammer 80k where the shoulder armour is so big it decapitates the wearer if they lift their arms past horizontal. In the far future there is only shoulder armour.
Love the use of cadian troops, makes it a real battlefield
