- We took a day trip to Taos where Ansel Adams shot once. I needed to do some photography in the middle of the day.
My photography on Instagram at / brendanvanson
Ansel Adams is a legend. So, to shoot a location that he did his photography work at once is inspiring. But, it was also a challenge to shoot as I needed to do some midday photography which is never easy.
And, usually I would use Ansel Adams as inspiration in a situation like this and shoot some black and white stuff. But, I also really liked the contrast of colours between the blue skies and orange Adobe.
Taos, in general too was amazing. There was lots to shoot, and even in the middle of the day it was such a thrill to be doing photography somewhere like that. I could have definitely spent more time in Taos.
Tomorrow on the photography vlog I explore more places here in New Mexico.
I never once compared the number of photo’s taken between youtube photovloggers. Nor do i compare the quality.
It’s much more valuable and fun to have such different photographers vlogging their journey.
I can only say thank you for bringing us along. Love the channel 👍🏻
That old man singing is my grandfather he loves to do what he does and loves seeing people interested in it all
I'm glad you had a good day. You do what makes you happy man, we're just glad to be along for the ride.
Great route 66 vlogs! The Indian pueblo site you visited near Taos NM is a UNESO World Heritage Site and a National Historic Landmark. Tens of Thousands of people visit this beautiful pueblo every year. On Sept. 30th, Feast Day, over 10,000 people show up! The river running through the pueblo is their main source of water and the ancient part of the pueblo is home to about 150 full-time residents, with about 2,600 Taos Indians living on the 100,000-acre reservation. When I visited in 2012 there were suddenly many cars with horns blaring entering the pueblo. A wedding party exited the cars to have their photos taken in front of the pueblo buildings. They were dressed in traditional Indian clothes and it was wonderful to see! Safe travels ~
It's not that people don't go there, it's a weekday, and all the snowbirds have gone home. Living in Arizona, I have learned to embrace the daytime photoshoots. Blue sky is not the enemy, lack of composition skills is. Great series, loving it. Now I want to take the trip again.
Don't put yourself under pressure. I love your channel just the way it is. Perfect.
I don't think you have to show or even do something photography related every day. You've become an awesome storyteller and filmmaker and that is 95% the reason why I whatch your channel.
Thank you!
Brendan, I came to your channel for the photography. I stayed for the adventure, your personality and for the opportunity to watch someone constantly challenge himself (and usually succeed). This video was great - keep up the great work. PS. Start waking up earlier for sunrises!!! :)
Great video Brendan. What an amazing place Taos looks. Loved the images of Autumn Deer, and all the others for that matter, it's no wonder Ansel Adams photographed there. Whatever you do don't get pressurized, that's about the worst thing that can happen and your passion will suffer for it.
My favorite place in this country. Love Sante Fe and Taos.
Just keep doing what you're doing that keeps you happy man. Always follow your passions and ignore the pressure to change, your channel your choice. We'll keep following.
Travel Photography channel....that's why we love it. No other channel do I want to see everyday, except this one....but don't feel pressured by that....LOL
I’m enjoying the reality of your videos. I’m a wedding and portrait photographer but love land and seascapes on a personal level. For what it’s worth I don’t have expectations that every shot will be amazing and I’m with you when you say sometimes it’s difficult to get the ‘one shot’ but when the one shot blinkers are off you don’t miss all the amazing atmosphere of a location. I actually enjoy your take on everyday snapshots, using different angles and framing and I like to see more of the places so keep up the great work. I would say peace, but I’m too old for that :)
Hey Brendan! I started to see your channel as a photographer but I love the way you show your photos traveling around the world. So many people love photography as a perfect combination with travel and I’m one of this people, so keep posting like you do. Amaizing channel and amaizing work.
That's why I subscribed to watch a different take on photography. It's a great way to see the travel and getting the image for a magazine, advertising images for tourism boards and rental car companies. Totally different style from a day with Thomas Heaton. We're able to learn a total different take on the camera, between the two of you.
Im a photographer and I love your work both the travel and the photography, don't feel pressured Brendan just keep up the awesome work and if you get a photo great and if you dont get a photo thats also great. peace
Well said.
Omg Taos New Mexico brings back memories of when I worked out at Philmont, thanks so much for going there on your journey. Taos Brewer id a good spot . use to be a airplane hanger back in the day
Taos, that's one place to add to the bucket list, some nice from there Brendan.
You are doing a great job combining photography and travel stories! Just keep it going like this!
Another great vlog. I think that the fact people ask still watching means we like your style, so you shouldn't feel pressured.
Maybe I should stop reading the comments hahahaha
Brendan van Son only read the good ones and trash the negative ones ha ha
The section with Autumn Deer was the highlight for me.
Me too!
Good photos, good talk, good to see you so often. I love Santa Fe and the Southwest generally, but especially Santa Fe. If I could live anywhere I wanted, it would be Santa Fe. So it's nice to have another take on it. Thanks a lot.
It's awesome out there, isn't it?
Loved the local with the drums... he was so cool . 😎
He was awesome! Such a nice guy!
Sorry that you feel pressured to take photographs Brendan. I can't speak for everyone else, but I watch your videos because I find them so entertaining and interesting. I love to travel and wish I could do more, so watching your videos gives me ideas as to where to go next or in the future. I have to admit though, the photography is a huge added bonus, simply because you're so talented and inspirational and I long to be able to take photos as well as you one day.
Love photography but love the vlog over and above everything, keep up the good work 🤙
One of the many reasons, I subscribed.
I've been there last summer, very cool place indeed
I enjoy a Canadian's point of view of the Land of Enchantment. Thank you for visiting my home state and painting a positive picture of it all. I look forward to the rest of your SW videos of Rt. 66.
That was great Brendan.
The fact that you cover both travel and photography is one of the main reasons why I subscribed. It is cool how you get to travel to cool places, experience the culture, and take some awesome photos along the way. Although I can only travel on weekends and during vacations (I work full time right now), travel is one of my hugest passions, and I also like to take photos and video along the way. I also learn some great tips about photography at the same time. Always continue to follow your passions! Anyway, Taos looks really cool! New Mexico is one state I need to check out especially Santa Fe.
Thanks for following along for so long!
I had no idea there was a town like this in the US. Really cool!
One of the things I really like about this episode is that you showed the reality of shooting in mid-day. I know that is not the optimum time to shoot, but many times as I travel, I am not in a place where I can properly plan to shoot at sunset or sunrise. I liked the challenge you set for yourself to find a composition at this time of day. I must say you did, and your images were great! Looking forward to Albuquerque!
Love the videos what a fantastic place
Hi Brendan... I understand what you're saying, as I joined this channel hoping to see photography, but now I come back everyday just to see your adventures. Just keep doing what you're doing, if you try and force the photos then you're always going to struggle and it'll be insincere.
My "Fix" for day, thanks B!
Haha. Thanks for watching!
This series is so addictive to see what you do and think next. Got very emotional with the pictures you took of autumn deer, excellent episode Brendan! ✌️
Thanks! Glad you liked them!
Keep up the good work, I really enjoy your travel/photo video's!! When will you be in the Netherlands?
Managing pressure to produce isn’t easy but you said it, a lot of photographers are following you ... they should understand the challenge because we all deal with it. Great day for you guys and lots of opportunities for more than just one image. The photographs found you today. Thanks for sharing....
Beautiful place and I do think there are some scenes that really work mid day with blue skies. Great vlog
Great place to ski in the winter!
Taos is one of those heavenly places for photographers, particularly the Pueblo featured here. (They sell "Indian Bread" which is outstanding but dripping with fat.) To travel in the footsteps of Ansel Adams, take the High Road (old Spanish highway)from Santa Fe to Taos. If you are spotting Adams' locations, be prepared for 60 years of development intruding on some subjects.
Great stuff, best video on R66 so far, real travel feeling with some good images to back it up. Well done.
You should take Amtrak, Chicago to San Francisco. Interesting mix of people and amazing scenery. Be interesting to see how you handled the challenge of photographing from lounge of a moving train
Nice video as all ways. I usually shoot in the middle of the day for my landscapes I use a polarizer it helps cut down on the hard light a little bit.
Man you work hard on these videos! Thanks so much for your videos. Hope you can do a photo walk in Newfoundland some time.
Autumn Deer moment superb buddy ❤️📸👍
Broad daylight with blue skies is the best for bird photography, which is more my thing. I'm learning landscape photography now and just getting up early enough for sunrise light in Spring and Summer is proving s real test.
P.S. don't miss that left turn at Albuquerque.
You should have gone to 10,000 Waves for the spa treatment... Japanese style outdoor hot tubs up in the mountains...
Mate I enjoy your channel and I don't think you should feel the need to be something you are or are not.... just be you. I asked a week or two ago the same question of you.I see you as a traveller who takes photos more than a photographer.... but really who cares.... do what you want to do and the rest will come I say.
I really like your adventure vlogs but the 60fps makes it like a high end video camera from the 90’s. Have you ever thought about 24fps? It’s got a more organic real fee to it.
I know it's been a while, but I notice you had a filter on lens throughout the video, what kind was it?
I believe it was a circular polarizer. Just to help bring out the blue skies a bit.
Lol that guilty face you made when you said would choose to travel than photography
Hahaha. #sorrynotsorry
Sos bastante tiernito 😂😂... Nice one 👍
Hahaha. I saw a burrito shop in California called Carlitos the other day. Haha
I really don't think you should feel pressured to produce photographs! Your channel is one of my favorites, if not THE favorite, (and I would call my self a photographer). I checked your "about" page and it says "always photography related". Maybe you could remove that? It might take some pressure off of you. And as for most CZcamsrs the reasson you follow a channel is about the personality, not the content, and you have a ton of great personality that a lot of people look up to! For me it is mainly your constant positivity that I look up to, the photos come second. Have a great day!
Good video as usual
Thanks Russ!
No problem. Thanks for a reply man, I appreciate your response. One day maybe I’ll be able to attend one of your workshops and learn from/meet you. That would be so cool
Taos is on our short list of places to go. Hopefully, soon.
Knowing that the First Nations experience in Canada has been less than positive, I commend you on the way you connected with Autumn Deer.
Free Photography Gear! Just hop into my white van!
Hahaha
I mean it's not to far from the truth...my family does own a white van, though it's one of those family sized ones with windows.
how can you dislike massage! I am not fan of it but if I get it I won't complain :)
It hurts and I'm a baby. Haha
It seems that Route 66 is not for photography!
It is. Just have to work for it a bit!
Am I a heretic if I find Taos to be horribly photographed? I'm enjoying the Route 66 series a lot!
Nope. It's a tough place to shoot!
Don’t beat yourself up about the photos there could be bigger problems if you keep having body scrubs 😂😂😂😂
Where are your sunglasses? Squinting is going to cause you to get astigmatism....
Wasted close to 4 minutes to see a building AA. Photographed. Then I couldn't watch anymore. NUFF SAID.
Steven if the hat is any indicator of his taste then ICK!
