Wow! I have been swinging too fast and getting poor results. I went to my local range today and tried your approach: a slow one piece take away, hitting the ball like a pitch shot , replicating a full swing before hitting and breathing through impact. Many thanks for these key tips.

I think my issue is that I'm smooth with irons but jerky and too aggro with driver, so this is a very helpful video. I'll be trying to swing driver like I do irons. The thing is that with the driver you just want to hit as far down the fairway as you can - you're not trying to land on a green (well...normally lol).

That’s the 64K dollar question…why can I get a nice smooth swing going on the driving range…then get on the green stuff and it’s 100mph…so frustrating…but that’s the game we love…most of the time…

I see a guy do that half/third practice swing all the time. He hits big shots most of the time but it looks a waste of time to me.
Opposite side of the coin EbayPete on golf mates almost falls over with practice swings that are bigger than his golf swing…..looks shit
