We still have the ringing in our ears and my buddies Ivan B. and Ivan T. their bruises are finally healed from the clubbing our heads were dealt by the USSR's military. Oh wait the USSR no longer exist??? Damn! How long have we been in this exit line? These smart phone devices were dropped from a chopper in the sky. We are just now discovering BlackBerry phones.

“The Hitch Hiker’s Guide to the Galaxy notes that Disaster Area, a plutonium rock band from the Gagrakacka Mind Zones, are generally held to be not only the loudest rock band in the Galaxy, but in fact the loudest noise of any kind at all. Regular concert-goers judge that the best sound balance is usually to be heard from within large concrete bunkers some thirty-seven miles from the stage, whilst the musicians themselves play their instruments by remote control from within a heavily insulated spaceship which stays in orbit around the planet - or more frequently around a completely different planet.
Their songs are on the whole very simple and mostly follow the familiar theme of boy-being meets girl-being beneath a silvery moon, which then explodes for no adequately explored reason.
Many worlds have now banned their act altogether, sometimes for artistic reasons, but most commonly because the band’s public address system contravenes local strategic arms limitation treaties."

This was Sept 28 1991 It was the "Monsters of Rock Tour" and it featured many bands (including metallica) there were 1.6 million (estimated) people at the concert grounds. To give historical context, first, I was 21 at the time I remember the historical situation well. There was, for all intent and purposes a collapse/coup in russia which essentially saw the old "soviet union" collapse and reform into what is now the Russian Federation. This is around the same time as the berlin wall coming down, many eastern bloc countries regaining independence. The new Russian government wanted to try and emerge as a more open society, and by comparison they achieved that (Russia before this was the Iron curtain). One of the ways they did that was invite western artists to perform. No one knew how badly the russian people wanted to rock, it was amazing at the time just as amazing as it is for you now to see it 30 years later.

@@MorenikejiTaiwo In 1991, American heavy metal band Metallica made history by becoming the first Western rock group to perform in Moscow. The concert was a momentous event, not only for the band, but also for the city of Moscow and for the country of Russia as a whole. The concert was a symbol of the changing times, as the Soviet Union was beginning to crumble and the country was opening up to the outside world. For Metallica, the concert was a chance to show their fans in Russia that they were a force to be reckoned with. The band played to a sold-out crowd of over 60,000 people, and the performance was hailed as a success. The Soviet Union fell in 1991, and Metallica played a massive concert there a few months later. During the event, a group of Red Army soldiers were called in to help manage the crowd. The 1990s were marked by an influx of cultural exports from the United States, most notably Metallica’s Enter Sandman. It is impossible to overestimate the impact of the band’s distinctive style on students in high schools and colleges in Eastern Europe and around the world.
