The casting of Young Georgia and Present Day Georgia is so spot on, they both do the voice so friggin well and even appear similar, they clearly worked out how to get the facial work on point too. I only see it through youtube shorts but still see enough to appreciate it.
For real!!! This one and house of dragons absolutely nailed the casting on older and younger actresses! The character work is so seamless that I even forget they're different actresses playing teen and adult.
The scene where Georgia turns up the music, and starts dancing with Ginny, and beating the pot with a spoon while Gil was yelling and pounding at the door, really hit home, because I was a young Momma with a a young daughter, and my second husband was an abusive piece of shit. The first time he hit me, I started planning our escape, and when I saw the chance, I picked up my daughter and I ran with her. I learned how to shut down all my emotions, and I was blessed with a strong survivor instinct and a strong protective and maternal instinct. I just kept saying to myself that the next day could be the day that we escaped, and then the day came. I could, and can show emotions to my daughter and granddaughters, but I can still shut them off too with anyone else, and it's been over 30 years, and I still look over my shoulder, and I can't have a closet door open, because I hid in a closet with my daughter while looking for a weapon, when our monster was coming after us. I took beatings that were meant for her, and I'd do it all over again. I put on makeup to hide the bruises, but he'd still would accuse me of being a whore. Children need to realize that some Mommas didn't have the pleasure of marrying Mr. Right, and didn't have a real easy life, and when they came along, they gave our life meaning, a reason to get up in the morning, and we may not of been the perfect Soccer Moms, who dated and married upscale guys, but what they have to realize is that we would kill and die for them.
Abusive relationships, men in and out, multipke manipulative actions, placing kids in harmful situations, hiding, lying, not accepting help, not admitting she can't do it all on her own, criminalizing her children Yes, she did so much... how dare Ginny not act like a better adult teenager to her actual adult mom.

Then don't watch it if you can't handle people's flaws. The whole point of the show is to show that noones perfect. Just because georgia tried so hard to give vjnny a good life, that doesn't mean ginny has to be happy with everything in her life. That's a fucked up expectation to force on someone. Yes ginny can be ungrateful and a brat. But she's a fucking teenager. Obviously she's like that. She literally gets better throughout the show. And you find out that she has some serious mental health issues. Mental health is super complicated. It can make you act like you're not yourself. It's not difficult to be understanding.

But if Georgia were to do that to Ginny, it'd be ok for her to get upset just because she's a "teenager"? Ginny has no right to do such things behind her mother's back. She'd sneak out, skip class, hang out with her " friends"(who suck just as much and probably are the reason why Ginny acted the way she did to her mother)and wouldn't tell her anything. There is no reason for Ginny to be so disrespectful when she has not gone through anything her mother has gone through. The fact that Georgia is at TOPS 21 in these scenes is insane. Younger in many. She really was a child too, yet she still made it work for her and her baby.
Say what you want but Georgia is a smart woman and was a smart young mother I like that she covered Ginny eyes when she stole cause it kept Ginny innocent we know it’s not right but she does bad things for righteous reasons
I’ve never seen the entire series before and I would LOVE to (I have Netflix) but I have parents who don’t want me watching shows like this unfortunately even though I’m old enough to. However, from my judgment despite all the bad things Georgia does throughout the show she seems like a pretty nice/decent mother.
I am sorry to hear what you went through, and it's commendable how you handled it. However I disagree with the children should realize part. Marrying Mr. Right is not a pleasure, it's a choice. If you were forced into the marriage by your family, at least families intervene in this case. But if you willingly chose to be in a relationship and marry him without knowing his true nature, if you chose to marry someone again without having enough financial stability, and dragged your child into having a hostile fatherly figure, then all of this is entirely on you. Children shouldn't have to suffer because of parent's poor decisions.
I now can see how much my mum did in the past for me… she first was very poor but we had a small house sometimes she would even sleep with one eye closed and one eye open to protect me and my siblings and she slept hungry she never left me sleeping hungry I feel so sorry to my mum
