    Hi Lindy. I’ve met you once in passing at Susan’s camp at Van Aid Center Camp. I want viewers to know that you are as you appear on camera. You are a true educator everywhere you go. Your viewpoint is exceptional. Thank you for sharing another down to earth fact-based teachable moment.

      Things are changing. Obey. But obey the boundaries that are established. They are generous to allow travelers to park there over night. The restrictions are growing. There are mow 12 states that no longer allow overnight stays in their state operated rest areas. There are time limits of 3-4 hours. Then you must move on. Anywhere you park do not give the appearance that your camping. Don't set outside in camping chairs. Don't put slides out. Don't make any mess or leave any trash. Be a respectful guest and obey the boundaries where ever you park.

    Hi Lindy. As a tax paying homeowner in a city getting overwhelmed by different elements, I know my opinion doesn't hold much value to some nomads, but that doesn't matter to me. I think it's a good compromise to allow overnight sleeping to those who have working vehicles with the expectation they be gone in the morning. Heading to a park, library, etc., sounds doable. Thanks for this informative video. Love to you and Miss Marley ❤😊. Still too hot for you to head home.

  • @always.wondering.wandering

    I used the Home Depot to overnight at when I was in Flagstaff, other vans would come in at night and then leave in the a.m. I would also go park by the library during the day and go in and use the internet.

    Thanks for sharing this. I know cities are reacting with fear because they don't want to be overrun with homeless people camping on sidewalks, etc. In Oregon and northern California some (not all) rest areas have signs stating "Safety Rest Area" and people stay at those without harassment. I think that's a reasonable and compassionate response.

    The city I dwell in doesn't allow any kind of living activities in your vehicle, not even your own private driveway.
    Stealth is the word.
    You shouldn't be camping anywhere other than a campground.

    So your story popped up on my YT feed... I was attracted to it because it said Cracker Barrel... It reminded me of my trip to Quartzsite last November... It had been a windy day and I was exhausted fighting with the wind and felt I was getting horrible gas mileage... I just wanted to stop... I had been through Flagstaff before and was already mad at Walmart because I felt they were not friendly to travelers... So when I saw the Cracker Barrel sign I saw it as a opportunity to rest, wait for the wind to die down and get something to eat... Not knowing that this was a location with overnight drama... 👀 So I did, I got something to eat and layed down to rest and about 10:00pm I awoke to being surrounded by RVs the place was packed... A guy and his wife had pulled in with a 20' trailer and there was no place for him (or even to move)... I had never seen this before at any Cracker Barrel... 👀 I told the guy I was was leaving if he wanted my space but I had no idea how he was going to get in it... He asked me to help him maneuver and I rudely said I didn't even know if I was going to be able to get out as it was packed... Later down the road I read all the Google map reviews talking about because Flagstaff has cracked down on overnights this Cracker Barrel was taking the hit...
    Funny I didn't know your video was about "this" Cracker Barrel... 👀

There’s a fabulous one in Lafayette Louisiana. I relax so much more knowing I can count on an over night there if we can’t find something else.

    This is a growing problem for everyone - but "nomads" need to plot put their options, and perhaps they need more of them- more sites they can safely go to. Parking lots can quickly become trashy and dangerous "campsites" , hurting the business, the community, putting those who park there in danger.

Had to educate them that they were ruining it for the rest of us and were being selfish. I let them know it was a privildge to be allowed to stay there, but not a right.

    This is the case in lots of places. Not the business, but the city. Sometimes it’s because the city doesn’t want homeless and often it’s for-profit campgrounds and KOA that pressure or bribe the city so everyone has to use their facilities.

    • @RoadThruGrace
      @RoadThruGrace Před 21 dnem +1

      Yes. That’s the way it is in Florida. As being a primary tourist destination, the hotel and motel businesses do want the money to come to them. Unfortunately, the price of lodging especially in Florida is way too high for me to pay. I currently live on the Space Coast of Florida and everything is very expensive here. The problem I have is being able to save enough money to actually begin my travels. I’ve driven to Illinois for a short vacation, but that was two years ago. No travel since then due to being only on Social Security and unable to work. I’m biding my time until I can afford to travel.

    Yes! There's a difference between spending the night and camping. Hoping cities will see it that way when applying Supreme Court ruling. People need to sleep somewhere. But people setting up tents and building structures in parks, on sidewalks, in parking lots, etc. is not fair or good for anyone.

    Lawn chairs isn't secretly camping/being inside of vehicle, and quietly. Not having lawn chairs or blankets out on.their properties. Like u r at a campsite, at a home parking lot; and not at a restaurant. This makes it waste for us all, who don't do this.. let's think, and don't put blame on the managers. Common sense people..

  • @catlink8998
    @catlink8998 Před 19 dny +1

    Escapees put a lot of thought and energy into drafting the Rvers Boondocking Policy decades ago. It's free on their website and everyone living this life should read it. If people would follow it then we would not have so many places closing. Having your meal on the lawn bordered into "camping". You just don't stay in any business or street spot multiple nights and you vacate early without lingering. Residents notice police notice and criminals notice. Just having out-of-state plates makes you stand out even when being stealth.

    That’s a shame that some cities implement anti-unhoused laws to this extent. There is a difference between camping (like with a tent, or setting equipment up outside of your rig) and just staying the night while self-contained. Still, to fine people or businesses for staying over in a van or RV is a bit much, I think. You handled it beautifully, of course, and I appreciate you relaying that information. I stayed the night before last at a Cracker Barrel in Alma, AR on my way back to my hometown, and there were several others doing the same & there were no signs or anything. (BTW, I don’t recommend doing this in the south in the summer unless you have a/c. I didn’t sleep well at all as the heat index was still in the high 80s due to the humidity.🤦🏻‍♀️)

    I think the cities have run into lots of problems with some of the campers. A camper at a Walmart in Cedar City Utah got into a fight with another camper and made a bomb threat. They had to evacuate the whole store and parking lot and bring in the bomb squad for safety. I have seen trash left in the Walmart parking lots even though Walmart has garbage cans everywhere. If people would just be more respectful I don't think any business would have a problem with campers staying the night in their parking lots. The way they are trashing BLM lands you could see the end of free camping there also. There is lots of drug use these days also and that can bring problems for the police to deal with. I will hate seeing all public lands turn private but I do think that is the future. Not far from where I live a big rich group of people bought a public mountain and surrounding land and built a private ski resort and are building big homes beneath the mountain. You cannot even drive close to the mountain now. Another ski resort bought all the public land around it and big second homes have been built one by the Netflix owner. It is all private now and I heard they are going to put up a big gate to keep anyone out that doesn't have a home there. It used to be public and you could hike around there. The very rich will eventually own everything.
