Corey Deuel fought his way through 10 matches in the loser's bracket and met up with legendary Filipino pool player, Jose Parica in the final.
This match has some outstanding, creative shot making from Corey - some awesome safety battles - and I believe that this was Corey's very first major professional title.

In the early 80’s Jose (amang) Parica was the number 1 best pool player in the Philippines.Somehow in tournaments he always the second
    best player in the final.

Wow what a campaign Corey did in this BCA 2001. He beat 3 formidable Filipinos, he beat Efren 11-3 he beat Django Bustamante 11-5 and Parica in this Finals. I think Corey really primed in early 2000s. Too bad he never win a World tittle in his career.

great matchup, Corey deuel got a stroke like Godzilla, Jose great shape shooter but he acted salty AF @ the end towards Corey, but kind of hard not to be salty after losing two sets to what u think is a lucky kid, but that kid wasn't just lucky he's Corey Deuel!

LayYaDown GiveYaSumThatStovePiPe Parica has always been a salty loser. He is even salty on all the recognition and the love Efren Reyes is getting. Watch all the matches of Parica here in YT in the year 2000s and later. You will see he is not smiling, always grumpy, smirking etc. Very unhappy person and ahould not be emulated by aspiring pool players

Fantastic video, thank you for the upload.
Having said that, TV ruined professional pool. A race to seven to decide a tournament finals? Get real, that is a coin flip/breaking contest at this level. Get someone in there who understands the statistics of the game and give us an honest tournament format where the best player has the max. probability of winning the match.

    •  Před 4 lety

Not only is the race to 7 a bit short, but ESPN isn't even good enough to show the whole match, they are experts at skipping over games. A good network would be sure to have a large enough time slot to show a whole match.

I walked into Q-Master's in Chesapeake,VA while at the '94 Open (won by Efren) and saw this skinny little kid getting the 8 from Parica and robbing him. I recognized him as Corey because he had come through Macon,GA the year before and done the same thing to a couple guys at about 15 yrs old :/
