these videos are addicting lol...the only 40+ minute videos i actually watch the whole way through
on the hill refers to the military when the infantry had to take a hill....before reaching the summit one last push had to be made to get to the summit...until then they were said to be on the hill.
I admire the way you guys play
Man, this Corey Duel guy can really play. Someday he should see how he matches up against Corey Deuel.

Thanks for another game BCn. Hope to see some more!
I know the answer! on "the hill" originated from a race to five when players would use coins under the rail to keep score. the hill is referring to the side pocket being on the hill would be the 4th diamond and over the hill being the 5 th game and end of the set
The Sam Snead that they talked about was the club pro at The Greenbrier Resort in White Sulphur Springs, West Virginia. The restaurant at the golf club there is called Slammin' Sammy's.
thanks so much for these vids. they help me play better.
Very good sportsmanship by both players. Nice to see that between players.
I've been shooting pool since I was 7 years old, I'm 25 years old now........ I've accomplished so much in billiards the past 18 years, and I still don't have the potential as some of these great people..... Time will tell :)
There are a lot of comments below but no one comments on what a brilliant player Corey Deuel is!!!
@OnTheProgram thanks for the explanation - learned something new! i have played many racks of 9 ball and never seen this before. thanks for the clarification.
@evhgl87
In 9 ball, you can instantly win a rack by performing a combination or billiard shot on the 9 ball during your turn at the table.
As long as you contact the lowest numbered object ball on the table first with the cue ball, any other balls that are hit and pocketed during the same shot (either by the cue ball [billiard shot] or an object ball [combination shot]) are counted.
This also means that you can instantly win a game by pocketing the 9 ball on the break.
Hope this helps you.
This is why I'm glad to declare 9-ball as my sport of choice since childhood! 😍
Why cant I find the 2001 us open final between Corey and Mika?
Uploaded in 2009, 240p. Awesome! :)
John is one of the most knowledgeable players, i saw him playing 14.1 and one pocket, he's just amazing!
YES, IM IN THE MOOD FOR A POOL CUE!!!!!!!!!!!
SING IT WITH ME
I NEED
I NEED A
POOL CUE
A POOOOL CUEEE!
OH YEAAA MOFOS!
ROCK ON CRAZY MOFOS
Thanks, BCN!!!!!!!!!!
@JAMESPPH there's a scoreboard above the table, with balls representing points, the player pushes a ball to the right with the cue to signify the point he has earned.
@KillByKiss Yes, he breaks with his playing cue and so does Strickland. It's rare, but some player prefer it that way (for different reasons).
"On The Hill" derives from the term "It's all down hill from here." / Pool-players adopted it knowing that it wasn't always easy to muster the courage to go down the hill.
Hosted in 2001, uploaded in 2009 and watching in 2013
Exactly. The secret is practice, and a hell of a lot of it.
A Player name of "Spin The Ball Browny" showed me a 9 ball break hittin the rack head on. "The advantage is the que ball is to stop in the center of the table" making it open to shoot.
they spelled corey's name wrong in the video =/
'ppprechen'- You're obviously not a pool player, they don't 'point their cues up in the air' when they win a game, they're keeping score on a bead chain.

can someone explain the rules of 9 ball at 11:50 where he was allowed to hit the 9 ball out of count and still win? i have never seen that before?
Amazing play
Keepskatin ffhh
the firs rack was so amazing. Corey never had a good position but he always put a ball in pocket. Was no matter where the balls were.
amazing
Who knew Schmidt would go on to beat Mosconis record
I absolutely love(d) Danny D's comments on Accustats videos of, say, the nineties, and find (found?) him, along with Grady Mathews, the most insightful pool commentator of all, in other words, have great respect for him. But it is true his comments aren't quite as elucidating anymore as they used to be, maybe because he's seen it all, and said it all so many times over that it feels as if he were repeating himself - just a guess. Having said that, I still love listening to his (wiser) comments.
i think the two and the cue ball si too frontal to the pocket, its harder to play side spin in this possition (sorry for mistakes, my english is bad)
The graphic actually misspells Deuel's name
WOW,very nice match
WOOOOEEE I NEED A POOL CUE, YA KNOW WHAT IM SAYIN? i love pool man!!!!BEST CHANNEL EVER FOR POOL VIDEOS!!!
THANKS BCN!!!!!
wooooeeeeeeeeee
Can somebody explain this? On 27:48 there was a one on the table, but Schmidt hit another ball instead of the one. Why was that not a foul?
what they draw with their cue after every match?
so where did "on the hill" originate? 17:12
i love how @21:53 theres an ad for jump cues under corey's name the moment he grabs his jumper, and then he does a foul... ^^
@awolvesdestiny I heard that it was an oooold lithuanian proverb, alluding to jack and jill and king of the hill, the hill is the goal, if you are on it, then you are close to the goal
Anyone noticed that Corey Duel doesn't have a break cue? Isn't it strange for a professional pool player?
I've eaten at the restaurant at The Greenbrier that is named after Sam Snead. It is called Slammin' Sammy's.
at 30:20 at the bottom it says "corey deuel 2002 champion'' im 99% sure thats wrong. 2001 champion
I never saw Schmidt play so bad.
i thought if you didnt hit the ball u were supposed to hit, that it was ball in hand? Am I wrong?
perfect
I know that I play .. around Corey Deuels speed.
I am not very impressed with John's game. But.. I know that this is a mental game and its tough under pressure. Everybody has their days good n bad. That's pool.
Welcome to ESPN OCHO.
He beat Mikka Immonen 11-0 ? DAM!
Are they playing on 8x4?
check this out 37:47 COREY DUEL then 44:40 CORY DEUEL errr which one is it guys?
11-3 close game. Go Corey
on the hill is a war term. the first army to get to the hill had the best chance of winning the battle
The commentator said let us know if anyone knows where the expression "on the hill" came from. Well, just how does one let them know? I know the answer.
"But he did not keep whitie on the table" haha jim wych :) John just seems like an average player to me.. he can think of the shots but he isnt making them in this match. He is a fine player but on tthis day i kinda feel bad for him.
By the way why does the string only have 10balls on it, shouldn't there be 11?
@pppppcrehan OMG are you serious. at 2:00 he was cleaning the cue ball, and corey is raising his cue in the air to mark his score with the end of his cue.
3 cushion?
11-0 against mika? Holy shit
I like Schmidt's shirt.
42:00
good
its funny i watched this match and i talk to myself and scold myself when i make mistakes but it comes off as whining,so ill try to cut down on that. i couldnt make a ball with that ob1 shaft but i play fury cues now thank god lol.also u guys r right my stroke looks horrible and choppy but when i hit qball my stroke is same as other pros. being able to take criticism and improve is key in life so thanks viewers. not to b jerk but to the guys who say i suck im easy to find for 5000 a set lol.
now, 26 people
Yoda..... SPEAKS! @ 15:09
Great pool I think John just decided to shoot it out in the end..
I didn't know Josh Hartnett shot pool.
I've eaten at a restaurant called Slamin' Sammy's, which is named after the Sam Snead that is talked about in this video.
did you guys miss out on the fact that schmidt is the most recent straight pool world champion? he beat non other than efren reyes in the 2k12 world straight pool championchip finals. pool isn't about looking pretty, it's about winning, no matter how ugly it is to watch.
It is almost like John lost so bad so he could line up some big money matches later.
the best realization: the fuck am i watching
cool... you famous!
rre copado
42 now
Sledding term. After trudging to the top, theyre on the hill ready to slide on down. idk.
its 20
53*
joda el man de azul esta triste!!
the blue men is sad!!
19:03 OOPS! ;p
You should play 9ball if you play snooker it is not easier. 36 balls for a 147 is 4 racks of 9 ball in row so you can compare.
ناااااايس
238 players there man
27 people
I have watched John Schmidt play quite a bit, and I know he is a great player, but am I the only one who things that his stroke is a little bit hurky-jerky?
and you also wrote that he can't even run 3 balls in 9-ball and that him shooting 400+ balls is close to a miracle. ah, and you also wrote he has an "insecure" stroke, when his stroke is probably one of the best in the world and just doesn't look the way you would like it to look.
Jonh schmidt? Holy sh
if he had made that masse 2 by not scratching, things would be different
john shmit is little wine bag on that last set
This game is so awesome, but there should be other rules at championship. How could someone 20 years old that has been playing for 19 years lose a ball? It's unfair.
AT 17:00, the ball was drawn because it was dead straight into the pocket. Any other 'english' would be ineffective in that situation...
45:46 FLINCH! HAHAHAHAHA
corey is known for making balls off a jump.
its one of his strengths, he was just unlucky in this case
بطل
corey whipped him!
lol what's wrong with this schmidt guy? that last frame was supposed to be his, but he decided to slam the 8-ball around the table
He was just frustrated from playing badly all match. He didn't really have a single smooth run and he knew he wasn't running 7 racks when he can't even get proper shape on the 8 ball from a perfect leave on the 7.
John is without a doubt a world class player, but I watched him play in person recently and his stroke is very awkward...It's just very abrupt, and not nearly as smooth as most other pros out there...Either way, he still kills it and is a super nice guy as well!
Nice ending, at least john didn't seem to be showing hatred after all :D Cool!! I imagine if he really punched corey! LOL
Um its fucking uploaded in 2009 ?
ok
Duel out dueled him.
@kujo317 thanks for that bud LOL
