    on the hill refers to the military when the infantry had to take a hill....before reaching the summit one last push had to be made to get to the summit...until then they were said to be on the hill.

    I know the answer! on "the hill" originated from a race to five when players would use coins under the rail to keep score. the hill is referring to the side pocket being on the hill would be the 4th diamond and over the hill being the 5 th game and end of the set

    @evhgl87
    In 9 ball, you can instantly win a rack by performing a combination or billiard shot on the 9 ball during your turn at the table.
    As long as you contact the lowest numbered object ball on the table first with the cue ball, any other balls that are hit and pocketed during the same shot (either by the cue ball [billiard shot] or an object ball [combination shot]) are counted.
    This also means that you can instantly win a game by pocketing the 9 ball on the break.
    Hope this helps you.

    @JAMESPPH there's a scoreboard above the table, with balls representing points, the player pushes a ball to the right with the cue to signify the point he has earned.

  • @Airblader
    @Airblader Před 12 lety

    @KillByKiss Yes, he breaks with his playing cue and so does Strickland. It's rare, but some player prefer it that way (for different reasons).

    "On The Hill" derives from the term "It's all down hill from here." / Pool-players adopted it knowing that it wasn't always easy to muster the courage to go down the hill.

    I absolutely love(d) Danny D's comments on Accustats videos of, say, the nineties, and find (found?) him, along with Grady Mathews, the most insightful pool commentator of all, in other words, have great respect for him. But it is true his comments aren't quite as elucidating anymore as they used to be, maybe because he's seen it all, and said it all so many times over that it feels as if he were repeating himself - just a guess. Having said that, I still love listening to his (wiser) comments.
