This is such an awesome journey, count me in too! Right now, I'm diving deep into learning Korean and Arabic, taking a comprehensive approach. Funny enough, I've realized that while I'm aiming to dive into Korean literature, spending too much time on speaking and writing might not be the best move. But Arabic? That's a language I really want to nail down. And lately, I've been toying with the idea of picking up Latin and Greek. They're such foundational languages, and it's cool how many polymaths were fluent in them. So yeah, I'm totally down for this challenge. Super excited!
Great to hear from you. It's been interesting learning Arabic, Chinese, Greek and Sanskrit characters at the same time and getting used to the new shapes and proportions. I keep seeing 3s and 2s and 5s everywhere...and sometimes 8s. I definitely recommend getting at least a little Latin and Greek. Just the Greek alphabet is good to have. Hello Timothy, This is Francisco. I am one of your students at Udemy. I love this challenge. I think it is too big, but I love it. Yeah, if I were in your shoes, I would also be worried about the upkeep. To achieve a reasonable level of proficiency in any language, one needs to acquire approximately 4000 words (this is an estimate). Let us say that all those languages overlap by 20% on average. Please notice that it is not the same with the overlap of English and French as with English and Chinese for example. So let's be optimistic and it is indeed 20%. This is around 38,000 words. This is a lot! This is like learning more words than in the Oxford Student Dictionary-about 34,000 in a year, plus grammar, plus character. In a nutshell, if you can do that, you are Eddy in Limitless. Good luck, bro!

I agree with your numbers they are good napkin math for this but I’m not trying to get that much vocabulary in the first year. It’s more to get an initial familiarity with each language while also meshing them together and getting a strong comparative sense of their foundations. I’ll then be better informed about which I want to invest more time in after the challenge is over. Even getting to 4k words in one language is a big lift in one year.
You should not learn all the romance language instead cherry pick the one you like and do it with Latin. As you can easily recognise words through cognates. Like you could learn French and Latin as Latin has around 90-95% cognates with all romance languages expect French. You can learn Persian and another language instead.
I already have 4y Latin and 3y French from school so that’s part of what I’m starting with. I am interested in doing Persian next year for round 2.
