Halo's lore is as deep as it is wide, and so quite a lot gets buried in the vast ocean that is Halo's universe. So, today we dive into some of Halo's most obscure, creepy, cryptic and esoteric lore - lore that I can guarantee most have never heard of, let alone experienced.

One piece of lore I love that I never see people talk about is the "Hunger" short story from the re-release of The Flood. It tells the story of a flood infection from the POV of the Infection form. It's creepy as hell.
Damn I thought I'd seen it all, this video covering ilovebees included but I've never heard of that! Gonna look it up now, cheers.
To anyone wondering its good, someone whent over it on reddit however I didn't realise you meant the book at first, that I actually have lol. Haven't gotten round to reading it yet, kinda hyped to now. Having lore reveal the independent portion of a flood forms consciousness is really interesting and I think it was done well, gave me chills.
I believe it's actually written from the perspective of Captain Keyes even. Been like 5+ years since I read it in the book though so I could be wrong.
This story is animated in Halo Anniversary termenal on Keyes
Where is it in the Book
Following the whole Iris campaign with my older brother back in the day, really was something else. Really can't understate how unsettling it was just the whole vibe of being in the earlier internet days downloading videos off of the forums and waiting for them to buffer in quicktime just to unravel cryptic messages of star coordinates and mysterious microorganisms.
As a Halo fan abroad (from Taiwan, to be specific), I've missed a lot of these ARG campaigns back in the days. Thanks to you, I now know what I Love Bees and Iris were all about!
Hey, Halo fan from Taiwan here as well!
Cortana letters make me nostalgic for something I never experienced.
God Bungie meta lore is wild.

As an Iris alum who was there from the moment the "protesters" were found in times square and recieving that very first email with the "hidden link" I was hooked.
I was one of the first 200 to unlock terminals 1 and 2, and was there for the others but the community had decided we would share the rewards with others who hadnt yet unlocked them yet.
Ive kept the Iris symbol as my profile picture ever since. My gamerpic, the Tshirts and my print of the cradle of life comic from the first terminal are some of my favorite possession i have in my gaming life.
Iris will always be a part of my life as it was one of the most fun and memorable summers of my life. The community coming together at HBO and then the ARG spinoff forum were all some of the best people you could explore halo with.
Thanks for the video Luc and for reviving so many great memories ❤
It kinda sucks that we don't see many cryptic/mystery stories and ARGs in general these days (at least ones that gain wide spread attention). Espically in an era where everyone is constantly online, and telling stories like these should be incredibly easy now since you can reach a vast audience. Which is why I love Kane Pixel's Backrooms series, because how mysterious and cryptic it is and it shares alot of classic ARG elements (despite not really being an ARG).
Isn't Bungie doing an ARG with Marathon rn?
It's actually BECAUSE everyone is constantly online that shit like this doesn't work anymore. A big part of alternate reality games is the blending together or real life and stories, and people are past the point where they want anything that involves the real world as part of the story. And because ARG's have happened in the past and gotten big, everyone is better at spotting them, and the second they see what's happening they go "Oh this must just be some stupid ARG" and they lose interest. There was a small window of time when this kind of thing worked, when the web was well established enough that people knew how to use it, but not enough that it was completely mainstream. The clearnet is dominated by a small handful of sites and companies that would never allow this shit to take place these days.
@@O_Godzare they? That’s pretty on brand for the kind of franchise Marathon and the other one that isn’t related but is totally a prequel
@@creed8712they did one for the reveal trailer, the community had to solve a puzzle both online and with irl decrypters objects sent to content creators and stuff in order to get the link to the trailer, then revealed to the public after it was discovered. Bungie also kept doing this in Destiny, characters from the game have "sent" stuff irl to people, stuff that had to be found after solving an arg, idk if it was extra lore or something unimportant tho
Problem is now a day they get solved within a hour
There’s nothing better than a good old Hidden lore video after a long day 🙌🏼

I love the way soma saw the flood approaching during a beautiful sunset. Its like the opposite of that saying about dawn being the darkest before day. Right at sunset, when night begins and the darkness comes. She sees the of the end of days at the end of the day. Purely symbolic.
I just love your storytelling and emotions. It is really immersive and your love for Halo Lore is leaking. Truly ICONIC
While I won't say I learned anything new, it was great to hear you go over some of the old Halo mysteries and stories that made part of my childhood great. I miss talking about this stuff with a few irl friends and the great people that used to be on the halo wiki.
Gods I miss those times.

I've always wanted a Halo Reach spinoff where we play from the POV of the Succor spec ops crew during the Reach invasion, leading up to Alpha Halo. We could play as a customizable Kusovai, with Full-Jaw R'tas as our Carter and Thel as our Colonel Holland counterparts. Maybe foreshadow some Brute/Minor Prophet tension and some admiration for humans despite absolutely decimating them.
Who tf is admiral Hackett?
@@sa-amirel-hayeed699 oh snap lololol. I got confused with Mass Effect. I meant Colonel Holland 😆
The 2000's era was a time that belonged to viral marketing campaigns. Seriously the way they were performed and how people manage to pull them off was phenomenal. We had Halo, District 9, Cloverfield etc. I remember being absolutely immersed in the Cloverfield viral marketing and I deadass thought some of it was actually real (I was 11 years old cut me some slack XD). As much as I wish we had more of this stuff in this day and age, sadly we will never get viral marketing campaigns on this level ever again due to how much the internet has evolved and how easy it is to debunk information. The reason they worked in the 2000's was because the internet was still in it's infancy and not many people knew if the information was real or fake.
That's what made them so damn good.
I mean they dont have to seem real. None of the things you mentioned ever seemed real, just cool and fun.
Ah yes, nothing like a lore video to get my nostalgia cogs going
Dude your branch out content has been top tier, but I've missed these deep lore videos. Thank you for the amazing content!
so so so good! love these Halo lore videos! o7
My favorite has to be the deep dive on how every level of ODST relates perfectly to Dante's Inferno. It is absolutely insane... Great video as always!
My favorite piece of lore about ilovebees itself is that it existed on pay phones. During Hurricane Ivan a gamer went to one of the pay phones and the Bungie employee broke character and told him "Dude, it's a hurricane. Put the phone down."
Those Cortana emails feel so extraterrestrial and mysterious. Amazing!
Imagine being a marathon fan back in the day, seeing these letters and then forgetting about them as you play Halo, only to then hear the letters again in Halo 3. I wonder if that was Bungie's way of saying Cortana was going rampant in 3.
Videos like this make me fall in love with Halo all over again and then I feel low on what has become of it. The missed opportunities for lore, intrigue and a realised world for Halo Infinite.
Ftrew kitrs bdrso
I would honestly love to see a full video dedicated to ilovebees. I've always known about it via just being a bit of a lore junkie for halo but I've only ever heard of it and some parts of it. Never the full story so I'm so down to watch that!
RocketSloth
Having been a subscriber for years I remember most of these in past videos, but still it's pleasantly refreshing to get a lore video again
I absolutely love this sort of mystery storytelling, please cover more of them and from other franchises!
Trle wrtell mngreh ugor
It's a travesty I was too young to take part of the Iris campaign. The perfect marketing campaign 343i could develop to bring back fans to the franchise would be something like Iris. Could be about the Banished awakening the Flood or more Forerunner stuff, just the possibilities are endless.
Love how the flood take up most of these lol
Always enjoy your lore videos, especially when I can see you're excited and having fun. Can't wait to see you cover Marathon!
My favorite lore story is when they inserted an AI into the slip space and then in a matter of hours the AI lost reason and achieve a god like status, it also describes the presence of other beings in the slip space and since then they haven’t touch that again
Always love to see the extended lore of the Halo universe, always so well written and in depth, to a level reached by only a few other IP's. Only wish more of it was available to learn in the games themselves, like marathon did through completely optional terminals and environmental story telling, a codex of sorts could maybe introduced in a future game perhaps? Alas it is what it is, at least we get the lore in some form.
Have you thought about doing a video based around revisiting Hunt the Truth?
Oh that would be amazing
I just listened to that again last week. Such an amazing series.
Its so crazy to see the IRIS campaign. Clearly Bungie was inspired to keep the creepy voice thing, if you play Destiny 2, tell me that voice didnt remind you of The Witness.
That ending is insane. And the Cortana Letters, oh man so cool
I was confident watching this that I’d know all of them, but I gotta admit you got me with the Iris one
OMG, thank you for this amazing video and recapping on a lot of lore I really loved it and think you keep up the great work
Been a little bit since your last Halo lore video, I love this stuff. Also, are you still planning on doing SCP content?
Yes actually! Video coming about future plans in a week or so, but things are going to be changing on the channel soon and SCP is included in that change :)
@@HiddenXperia Sounds fun, can't wait!
3:57 “Oh wait,” Best song from halo five: plays
So much hype for flooded with flavor. Super underrated
When you said Tsutomu Nihei, I honestly choked. Dude did Knights of Sidonia, which is a manga series I've bought every volume of and enjoyed (he has little behind-the-scenes parts at the end of some and the main mecha in Sidonia was made by him irl by just kitbashing different things together)
HiddenXperia : Complains about the UK heat
Texas : "This isn't even my final form!"
Your lore videos covering Halo franchise is always cool, mate!
I need to say it, every time you post a video is a breath of fresh air.
My personal favorite bit of halo lore that isn’t talked about enough is how Master Chief’s Mark VI Mjolnir armor auto jacks him off allowing for the chief to truly “finish the fight”.
My head cannon for Cortana showing up in the Domain after halo 4 is that because she has Alpha halos index she was assumed to be Forerunner in origin.
The domain isn’t forerunner but precursor 🙄
@@benclark4823 sure didn't stop the Forerunners using it for a million years
I was listening to this video while playing forge on Halo Reach. Acted as great ambience and awesome inspiration. Great video, sir. Have a good day, and remember.
Elliot was wrong.
Marathon for the win!! Durandal is a fanastic game that I've replayed this week. Please bring that to back to the light!
Yay more halo lore videos... It's almost been so long I've gotten... Nostalgic
The mention of ARGs reminded me of the Cloverfield ARG. It's an interesting ARG.
Ah nice to have a good old classic lore video again, fantastic job as always G
Yesterday I saw the Flood Wikipedia as a screenshot reference in a windows 10 help page for accidental shortcut bindings.
Confused, but delighted.
Damn dude the iris ARG was so in depth, I couldn’t imagine the hype I’d feel if we got something like that nowadays… a man can only dream lmao
I had no idea about that iris arg I can’t believe that they projected that footage over random buildings. Nuts!
Just to clear something up. In the video you said that she packed up her painting equipment, and headed to her town? Town? There were other forerunners living in a primitive community? As I understand it, she was the only inhabitant on the planet when the brush generated the first flood image.
As a trivia: there was an American painter by the name Wolliam Sommar. Somas name is pretty much based on Sommar. (If you say Sommar fast, it sounds Soma.
Loved this! Not sure if I had ever heard of Iris prior. Not sure if it is really your thing, but I'd love your analysis on other ARGs/analog horror series even outside of Halo
I leaned so much cool stuff about my favorite universe, thank you so much for this video man I really appreciate it🔥
Dude that’s so crazy hiddenxperia! Thanks man it awesome!
A character from Soma the Painter called the Auditor became one of the sub-monitors of Installation 07 called Adjutant Revendicate.
I remember back in the day I went to the IRIS site. It had that spinning artefact thing that you could click on. It was so mysterious.
The idea that I was reading science data from a SUPER advanced species at its wits end. Who just couldn't deal with the parasite. It was interesting, but also sparked dread.
I just realized an Halo EAS scenario for Halo would be cool as like a small piece of lore for the covenant invading Reach then an elite busts down the door or something. COME ON 343 YOU HAVE SO MUCH TO WORK WITH!!!!!!!
This video was so well done. Thank you Luc!!
I love it when Halo's Lore goes dark, ominous and cryptic! its honestly the best kind of lore, would love to see that kinda lore return to the franchise someday.
This kind of stuff just makes me feel old having been there from the start and reading these stories when they were published.
Absolutely love this kind of thing! Would also love to see similar videos on other franchises you like!
FYI “a classic Romero-Esque flood story” was in Halo: Fractures, not Tales of Slipspace, which was a comic series
We need more!!!! Love all the things you find out for us ! Super nostalgic 👍
Alot of cool stuff in this video thank you for making this
I always love me some Halo lore.
Terus mrta eglito.
Dude if Halo 7 was revealed today and was literally everything we wanted, it still would not have me as hyped as the return of Flooded with Flavour
I'm so glad iris is being talked about. There was an incredibly comprehensive video way back when but it seems to be lost to time.
I have heard of every one of these, but I STILL LOVE to hear about them again!😊
8:35 I remember this story from a video of yours (at least I think it was) a long time ago! Been a fan of yours forever lol
Speaking of the Mona Lisa. It's also a Flood horror comic. Definitely worthy of Halo.
yaaay halo lore after a day of work. MY FAVORITE!
I'm a freak for halo and I didn't know any of these... Thank you
I wanna see in a future game or media the Banished obtain a forerunner planet building machine that restores Doisac and its moons. And then they try to use it to destroy Earth or something.
Great Video! Im looking forward to your upcoming Marathon videos a lot! Are you still collabing with Byf for them? One idea i think you could potentially explore is the differences between Halo Rampancy and Marathon Rampancy. Ironically, now both can be survived.
This video deserves a singular pogger, great watch
I’m just commenting to help with the algorithm, this guy deserves it.
Imagine if they had a Halo IRIS broadcast back in the 50's, everyone would freak out
Return of the King of lore videos!
I remember seeing parts of Iris back in the day... Use to go on the forms often and stumbled into it early on. Halo has so much story that's wasted. What 343 has done to this franchise makes me so sad. Here is hoping that someday we get more Halo content. Love these videos. It has inspired me to listen to pretty much all the audio books!
It’s the sheer mystique of halo that makes me love this fucking franchise
While I will leave this video disappointed that I did not learn about any new unknown piece of lore that I may have overlooked (I have been pretty extensive in my research, as well) I am reminded that I actual am missing lore from my collection. While I am familiar with Soma the Painter, I have never actually read it or 'Wages of Sin' because I was an early adopter the original release of Halo Evolutions before it was split into two volumes.
Thank you for reminding me that I need to invest in the later volumes to complete my lore collection!
I love the layers of halo. Bungie really set down a framework for conspiracy and intrigue.
This upload is bound to make my day better let’s go
These we're all very great pieces of lore. I haven't heard about almost all of them!
Battle of October 10th goes unmentioned again, unfortunate. Granted, there's not much to really discuss, but it's still a haunting story and the implications are interesting.
Pity it's one of those lore works that ties in with, ugh, Guardians.
Still, am betting they accidentally fought some enforcers of Durandal's will.
The Cortana Messages and Iris ARG were new ones to me!
Just when you think you've just about seen everything, you learn something new!
i love your lore videos so much mate
Conspiracy theories were awesome and that feeling being in it
I love when you do fun stuff like this.
If you hit Destiny one day, I know my brother will love that.
I’m always a Halo guy, ship model maker specifically, but that would be fun to look into on the side.
Regarding Tsutomu Nihei, he's the mangaka behind Blame! and Knights of Sidonia. Definitely recommend checking out his works.
This whole video just blew my mind I swear halo has the the best lore ever 👍👍
Straight to my favourites playlist
ah yes, the lore wizard is here to recount another tale
I would love the flood to come back to the games or comics again
The way the halo CE modding community has been making strides lately I’d love to see a mini campaign of Johnson escaping the flood and halo !
The vidéo i waited for for so long 😭😭😭 2016-2017 HiddenXperia lol❤
I know I'm late to this but I'd have to say my favorite piece of halo lore, while not anything as mysterious in this video, is the short story Dirt. Such a good tale of just an ordinary soldier and the meaning of what home is.
