You have to associate the sound with correction. Use a slip lead. When the dog bites make the hiss then tighten the slip lead. Same way you associate a clicker with treats.

It’s about perseverance and letting them know you’re being serious. The longer this isn’t done properly. The harder it is to get out. It’s a little telling that the behaviourist said this is a common issue and then all the people in the comments being like, “I can’t train my dog in this way” it’s because your dog isn’t respecting your authority. Either you need to get a trainer in, accept you’re not getting a trained dog, or change up your delivery. Most people aren’t able to train their dog and that’s ok. Nobody who isn’t an idiot assumes their an electrician when they need wiring help. Why can’t people just accept that they aren’t qualified to train a dog?

Well I can't say that because she knows not to bite me or mouth me but my kids and grandkids she's still doing it even though I'm trying to stop it🤦‍♀️ She stop's when I get after her but she waits a second and then goes back to doing it again. Hopefully she will get it soon 😊

Oh nice this actually works 🤙 I did this before even watching the video… I wanted to see if I could do better… but this is exactly how I did it
It’s simple but there’s rules and phases to this imo:
    1. The dog has to see you as a playmate
    2. You have to release their restrain command and allow them to play after a successful command (this reinforces #1)
Note: if you don’t there’s a chance they become aggressive… you pick the play you want or is acceptable to you
    3. Consistency for #1 and #2

If you can't assert yourself as confidently as this guy, another trick I found that works is to shout or even scream when bitten.
Puppies taken out of the litter too early often don't learn boundaries. Litter mates will whimper or even shriek when bitten and that lets the dog know they've gone too far. A few times will snap them out of it as the loud noise is quite shocking to them.

It's different when you live with the dog and puppy but randomly for a trainer the dog will listen. But sometimes the bitting behaviour chnages and it called mouthing Love during affection time. The Two or very different. The dogs are not allowed to use paws to show affention; back from the bad paw tricks: so they use there mouths only during cuddle and snuggle time with there owners but doesn't randomly do it greet strangers or friends.

Redirecting to the toy is great for establishing what they are supposed to chew on, this method has worked great for my aussie doodle, but it must be immediately redirected, allowing any mouthing is going to send the wrong signal. Only difference with my Scout is that he responds best to authoritative NO before the redirect and reinforcement, the air sound makes him want to play more.

with GSD you need to be firm, consistant and train, train, train. That energy must be focused to something positive. Water work/play is an epic way to drain energy. High distraction training-a parking lot with smells, sounds and movement. Start in a quiet spot, move closer to the store as training gets established-you must build a relationship with a GSD. GSD is a lifestyle-best dog ever if you nail it!

I have a question ! My 5 month old German shepherd puppy bites a lot! Our noses, our ears, our toes, you name it! … but we just got her from humane society two days ago, she doesn’t seem to like to play. So when I reprimand her for biting, she lays and look sad, so I try to get her to play with toys , and she won’t play. She doesn’t play. She like to chew and that’s it, but she will chew gently… I’m not sure what I should be doing as good redirection when she does not chase or play with toys.

Well. Yes. Making an abrasive noise when you don't want them to do something is what he's saying.
Like, dogs don't actually understand the words "sit, paw, come", they just know their reaction to a given stimulus gives them a reward.
So if you ignore your dog and/or make them jump when they nibble you. It reinforces that they don't get any benefit to doing it

Keep them on leashes when the grandkids come over! Also teach your granddaughter the Quiet Game with the dogs. Keep them behind a baby gate when she arrives. If they get excited and jump at the gate, she turns around. When they calm down, she turns around towards them again. They stay calm, she takes a step forward. They get excited, she turns around again. They stay excited or escalate, she steps away from them....and so forth. Kids love games, and so do puppies. You can teach your pups this game just yourself and then teach your granddaughter when she visits. Eventually they will learn than calm behavior gets attention :)
If they jump over the gate, get a taller one, and work on them being calm whenever you greet them at the gate and come through.i

@@systemicchaos3921 Yes, I'll try to take him to a trainer this next Monday, but they're really expensive and I'm just 19, I'll see what I can do though.

I’m still trying to figure out what he did beside the whistle sound and the snapping of the fingers. The dog adjusted immediately but what am I missing??

I felt this sooo much 😭😭 but it’s not impossible…
      Walking your dog everyday helps
Being the source of fun helps
      Inside play helps
      Yes (treat)
      Good (pet)
      Bad (warning -3x before time-out)
No (correction - going to time-out)
**Bad and No should always stop play.
**Don’t forget to resume play after successful commands (resume time increases as they get better with the command)
They have to meet their “stimulation” needs… not every dog is the same with their needs but to summarize it. You have to be their ball of fun while also nipping their bad habits that you don’t like

ok but this dog is clearly trained to know what "pshh" and a snap of the fingers means. i have a 2 month old puppy who that means absolutely nothing to. my first dog ever. how do i get her to listen to a cue at all

    • @kirstybrown1185
      @kirstybrown1185 Před 8 měsíci

No, they understand it’s a call to attention. It’s a social cue, it’s a noise that gets them to look at you in general. The first time you do it, it creates curiosity. You make the noise and give immediate reinforcement. He said it in the video. The noise isn’t fixing anything, it’s just a trick to get them to stop what they’re doing. It’s not clearly trained. If you missed that, you should probably pay a trainer because you’re missing the point of what it’s doing and jumping to “well this isn’t working for me when I’m already telling you what you’re doing is wrong”.

My dog is so frustrating. He never stops biting me no matter what I do. He never sits still unless I have treats. He has no boundaries, pulls during walks, jumps in my face, chews on my arm, chases after cars. I feel defeated

Don’t give up. If you can get the dog training. There are places that aren’t too expensive and will do cheaper on the phone consults. There are also tons of videos like this one that can help you train them yourself. Keep trying different videos and methods. I know it’s super frustrating but things will improve.
