      @@cristhygalvez3188 buying local, organic honey helps bees, it doesn’t hurt them. Small, local beekeepers are literally the ones keeping bees from going extinct right now. If you’re vegan because you care about animals and the planet, you *should* be supporting your local beekeepers.

    BEE Honey isn't vegan, but for those interested who may not know, there are some kinds of honey made from flowers. Also, agave or monkfruit syrup is a wonderful substitute for honey in vegan recipes.
    Also, I'm glad that Gordon is showcasing dishes that aren't just tofu-replacment fake-meat dishes like SO MANY OTHER PEOPLE DO, and is instead showing off dishes that are PROUDLY vegan in their makeup. Theres no need for vegan food to hide its veganism.

      @@stefan514 He probably meant to say something like agave nectar. Lots of people refer to that as just "honey" anyway, even if it technically isn't. Also, just sub in agave syrup and a milk sub of your choice. Works the same.

      Buying them from green grocers or farmers markets etc makes the world of difference. Supermarket produce is rarely as vibrant. Avocados are a great example!

    Some vegans are okay with using honey, but most would not consider it vegan. A good vegan alternative would be maple syrup. There are also "bee-free" vegan honeys too if you really want that honey flavor. :)

      @@rjcoady21 Trees are alive, and they can respond to some stimulus, but scientific consensus from experts is they can't feel pain or fear. They don't have the circuitry for that - which makes sense. It doesn't make much sense to evolve the ability to feel pain or fear if you have no way of avoiding it.
      Experts actually aren't sure whether bees can feel pain, but bees at least have nociception which suggests they might.

      To be fair: It could be a pun on "veg" and "January", with "veg" being British slang for "vegetable" - so it's very possible that it's referring to a vegetarian diet, rather than a vegan one. If this is the case, though, I do agree that the video is confusingly titled!

    I trust his knowledge and respect the simplicity and wholesome origins he maintains in dishes. He respects culture , he respects ingredients. I respect him.
    He teaches without trying to sell a product or himself, and really gives his audience a lesson, not a sales pitch on brands like countless other " chefs " do . Thank you Chef Ramsay.

    I was surprised by his avocado extraction method - he's clearly an expert when it comes to cooking, but peeling off the avocado skin section by section isn't nearly as efficient and easy as using a large spoon to scoop it out of the skin, keeping it perfectly intact, and then slicing it after the fact.

    The pineapple salad reminds me of a Southeast Asian dish called the Rojak. Traditional recipes call for balachan and dark soya sauce to be added in the dressing as well.

      why not? bees would at this point simply not survive if left alone, bee keepers (at least normal ones) care for their bees feed them even if they didnt produce any honey because of dry enviroment (they eat their own honey up if there is not enought flowers) feed them in winter and their families last for long time

      @@vivietamihmih8460 I don't think honey production is necessarily bad for the bees. But regardless of whether or not it is bad for them, honey is a product that comes directly from the work of bees - it could almost be compared to the production of milk or wool, to be honest.
      Fun fact, though: In the same way that honey isn't vegan, neither is avocado, almonds, and to ever-increasing degrees a large amount of other fruits, nuts, berries, and vegetables! These things utilize something called 'migratory beekeeping' in order to pollinate their crops. Essentially, there aren't enough bees to pollinate all the crops, so some hives are transported around so the bees can pollinate crops in various different locations - thus 'exploiting' the work of animals. The more you know!
      Just to be clear: I'm not vegan, and I don't necessarily think these are bad practices, as long as they don't harm the health of the bees. Just think it's a fun tidbit of information, that a lot of vegans may not be aware of!

      Same as kiwi, butternut squash and melon. Apparently anything pollenated by bees is deemed as not vegan 🙄 but as a vegan myself I still eat any fruit and veg it all gets abit silly. I use Agave syrup instead of honey.

    Hey even though he used some non-vegan ingredients, I'm glad he at least tried. Both the non-vegan ingredients (honey and milk) and be easily swapped out for vegan ones. Good on him for using his platform to promote some vegan meals :)

    vegan substitutes:
    honey: agave, maple syrup, date syrup
    milk: almond milk, oat milk (the most sustainable), soy milk
    (optional) palm sugar: coconut sugar
    -palm products have been questioned for their sourcing, so it’s best to avoid them if you’re into veganism for the environmental impacts of animal products

    To everyone calling him out for using non vegan products: I feel like these are just videos that were filmed not specifically for veganuary but fit the theme nicely and thus were repurposed.
    Also to be honest, this is not educational but more like, here’s suggestions for vegan(ish) dishes. Honey and milk are literally the easiest things to substitute for.
    The fact that a big personality like him even goes with the „trend“ to promote more vegan stuff does so much good, if everyone who watches this video just chooses a few more vegan or vegetarian options

    Great video.
    But, just to let you know, honey in granola is not Vegan. It is made from bees. You could use golden syrup or agave nectar instead if you want.

      If you're vegan for ethical reasons you should, by all means, encourage the honey industry, especially local apicultors. More demand for natural honey, more bees, better for the environment. Local grown honey is amazing because it's different in texture, taste and nutrients depending on what flowers the bees had aveilable.

    Actually Chef, the seeds in a chili pepper contain very trace amounts of capsaicin. There's a much higher concentration in the rib and placenta of the fruit.

      I've never removed the core from pineapples, if it's truly ripe then it would be just slightly crunchier than the rest of the flesh

      I freeze the core for smoothies, it is too fibrous to chew in a salad I think but in a smoothie it blends well.

    Chef Ramsey that looks absolutely delicious, but can't do anymore, I'd be in in the b.room ( have colon cancer) I wish you had food for cancer patients to eat! nuts, wheat, fruit, avocado, all the great food you cook is complete delicious but a bummer when a person has colon cancer!( This has been my opinion!)

      Well this is his best video yet then! As a vegan diet reduces the probability of getting colon cancer. ( This is a fact and not an opinion).
      Its too late for you, but not too late to send other people so they dont have to suffer the same fate

      @@IceblueParamedic Wrong, vegan diets are usually high in fiber and other plant substances aimed at assaulting your body, combine that with hyperinsulinemia and you get colon cancer brewing. The stuff in bread is considered carcinogenic at this point, probably one of the worst foods for someone who already has cancer. And don't forget the starch...
