      You most certainly can and there is no incorrect way to do it. It’s more of a preference than anything! Bees are adaptable they would build comb if they lived in the wild so in my mind, I choose to let them do it the same as if they didn’t live in a hive I put them in in my backyard!

    You might want to think about wiring your next batch of deep frames. New wax is very soft especially when it’s hot. Then when they fill it with nectar it gets very heavy. The wires will help keep the comb stable

    • @SydneyDorman
      @SydneyDorman  Před měsícem +1

      I considered but I haven’t had any issues other than cross combing thus far. I have seen where some queens won’t lay on the wire lines. Not that that is a big deal but I just decided to go totally foundation less.

    I have zero interest in bee keeping , but found this so fascinating that I watched the whole thing. So what is the purpose if bee keeping Is it strictly to have your own honey? I got a little container of the honey and honey cone from a recent high school boutique and loved it!!! BTW... I am way out here in California, and our Ice Cream man comes everyday in the summer. But he doesn't stay as long as yours did. You have to be quick to catch him! You have to have the money sitting next to the door, when you hear him, or you miss out.

      Haha no, standing at the back of the hive they don’t pay much attention to me. I can actually sit on the raised bed right by the front of the hive and they don’t really care about me. One bee may come over to inspect me but doesn’t care much!

    I know nothing about bee keeping so please don’t mind my silly question….Why can’t you use the brush to move them off the comb so it can be pushed back into the frame? Obviously it’s not done or you would have, so just wondering why? Great video, so interesting!🇨🇦 🐝🇨🇦

    • @SydneyDorman
      @SydneyDorman  Před měsícem

      I could easily use a brush but I moved them out of the way with the hive tool before I manipulated the comb. :) the brush tends to piss them off and I only have 2 hands so if I can just work with 1 tool that will move the bees and 1 that will adjust the comb that is just easier. 🙂

      Right now once a week since they are building out frames. Swarm season is pretty much over. If you let them go too long without checking when they are building comb it’s a really big mess. Once they build out these frames, I might inspect once every 3 weeks or so!

    Hi Sydney
    Excellent work. What I don't understand is why they are cross combing. There is plenty of room on those cards? I don't really know the correct term❤

    • @SydneyDorman
      @SydneyDorman  Před měsícem +1

      Yes, they have plenty of room on the frames. However, they can get off track. Naturally they would not make their comb perfectly straight they would assembly it for best airflow however that might be in their location and the space they have to build in. However, beekeeping in hives we have to make sure they are build how we want them to build so we can inspect and manage the hive. That includes managing frames, pests, splitting hives, replacing queens, etc!

  • @user-zc9do2np4k

    Why didn’t you buy the sheets with preformed cells on it for the frames? That way you don’t have to deal with the bees trying to do that. They will always build the comb crazy. Always keep your smoker close by you and don’t mind shooting in the hive if needed.

    • @SydneyDorman
      @SydneyDorman  Před měsícem

      I chose to allow them to make all their own comb just because I know if I can handle a hive with natural comb I can handle one with wax foundations and I just decided they are bees they can take care of it since that’s what they do! I have zero issues in the bottom deep so this cross combing has taught me a lot and forced me to learn how to handle it.
