    @blobeyeordie Před 5 lety +6

    "Better" is subjective depends on what you want the vehicle for. The wrx has more usable power around town, much quicker spool and low end. The wrx also makes for a more cost effective platform depending on what power levels youre going for. If you bought a new wrx and put about 5k(maybe less)into it you would have an arguably better all around car then many options today. These cars have a decent power-weight ratio compared to near 4k +lbs v8s etc too. With stage2 bolt ons and minimum supporting mods for e85, you have a pretty fast practical road car that will pull car lengths ahead of most others, especially from a dig.
    BUT... fuel economy is awful for a 4cyl, even if you avoid the slightest bit of boost lol

    • @ChristianHudnell
      @ChristianHudnell  Před 5 lety +1

      Andre Devine up to you. If they similar prices I may consider the STI but it really would depend on warranty left on STI or not. Buying a used STI without warranty is a gamble. But if price is similar it’s hard to not get STI though.

  • @gravityhammer25
    @gravityhammer25 Před 5 lety +5

    This is truth! I keep my STI just for utility and bad weather... but its very slow stock in a straight line. The AWD and suspension is good for rough roads, I definitely utilize all the HP because I'm on back roads and highway most of the time.
    I almost treat my STI like a beater even though its a 2017.. the car is always asking for it... and makes me rev it high (which I hate). The powerband is kind of narrow and falls off up high. Maby a tune could change that, but I got the STI because I don't want to mess with any aftermarket stuff.
    Tuning shops around me suck and are untrustworthy and I don't have a house/garage yet so not doing anything myself.
    When I get my shit together, I'm just gonna get a Corvette or something as a second car.
    STI will be my daily/utility car. Corvette for track / weekend cruising on a nice day.
    The STI is like a jack of all trades and master of none. It feels very rugged to me, great visibility and good on rain/snow, and dirty uneven roads... good stock ground clearance so I almost will never bottom out. I don't feel guilty beating on my STI either, it should take whatever I throw at it.

    I chose a 2016 STI new over the WRX because the WRX engine was new and untested. The EJ25 has been around forever so most kinks have been fixed oem wise. The WRX is also direct injection which will lead to a costly carbon build up on the intake valves down the line. The STI transmission felt better, had better torque. All suspension is beefier. Most importantly, the STI seems to really maintain it’s resell value. I will say I’m envious of the better mpg in the WRX.

    • @sleeper.simulant7327
      @sleeper.simulant7327 Před 5 lety +1

      Greg Coleman that’s the issue a lot of the ej25 kinks are still there, they still have a poor cooling system and still suffer from piston slap (over bored short stroke) and burning piston rings out. Headgaskets are hit or miss, some need them by 100k some don’t, it’s a gamble.

    • @Subninja2012
      @Subninja2012 Před 5 lety +1

      Driveitsideways 1 I think you only start facing the majority of issues when you start heavily modding the car. My car has a Cobb Stage 1 flash, the type RA intake, and a K&N filter. That’s all I’ll be doing for power mods. If I need more power that means I need another car.

    These are the best reasons I've heard from a WRX owner. No BS just facts on why it suits YOU better.
    That being said, all (mostly) the reasons why you chose the WRX is why I didn't.. lol
    I'm not strictly looking at straight line performance. The diffs in the STi and its AWD make its pull out of corners HARD and I got plans on making mine a canyon/touge/track killer. You can't put down 5-600 hp unless you got a straight road.

    Good video! One thing I'd disagree with is the power aspect... Yes, the wrx starts off with a low number, but with the right bolt-ons and a dyno tune, it's a savage of a car. I wouldn't say it's super fast, and I've had faster cars, but I never feel like my wrx is not fast and it still surprises me with how hard it pulls above 4k (can only imagine on flex tune...). It is also relatively light and feels quicker than it is. Also, what I also like about the wrx vs. sti is the steering feel as it's light and nimble. It's electric but it's the best of its kind. Driven a few sti's before and found the steering just too hard. You get a tighter ratio in an sti, but with a few mods to the wrx (dampener lockout, sway bars, lowered, etc.) the steering becomes sharp and responsive! I am still blown away by it compared to the M3 that I had. I personally think it's a better pick over an sti in many ways, as long as your plan is to mod the crap out of it. Stock vs stock, it's only more practical, that's all. And another thing to mention is you also get a lot of down-low torque due to the new twin scroll turbo. This was the winning factor for me when I drove an sti and then jumped into a wrx as I was on the fence between the two until then.

    • @ChristianHudnell
      @ChristianHudnell  Před 5 lety

      TheShaddix exactly! Feel the same way too. That’s why I talked about everyday driving feel on WRX better cause power comes early and you feel it better with mods. The WRX and STI are very similar in power with bolt ons. So for most. Everyday situations. The WRX is the better buy. I agree and appreciate your message man :)

I get you at the gas consumption man I get about 16-20 mpg at max it’s pretty damn awful but the older wrx isn’t much better. This car dose have -
    Better gas mileage !
    Better low end torque, so keep that in mind if live in or drive mostly in a city or downtown area. The STI builds boost higher in the rev range. The WRX builds boost very low. The WRX will kill the STI speeding from red light to red light. On highways the STI will kill WRX due to fact it has more power and happier to build the longer you can still on the paddle.
    A softer suspension if your daily driving the car.
    The WRX is a great and so is the STI but I feel as though they both best at different things. Everything in the STI feel tighter and more aggressive, but the WRX is more livable for most people. The WRX has a slightly softer clutch feel, and more throw in the shifter. Trust me both cars take turns quick enough to your friends whiplash.
    Also after market support is great for both cars so no matter which one you get you’ll be able to make it your own.
    I feel like videos like this very discouraging starting off saying that the WRX is in no way better then the STI. It may make someone discourage from buying a WRX at all because they can’t afford the STI. Then they will just buy civic type-R and we don’t need anymore of them on the road.

    WRX is better than the STI for a daily. WRX is lighter, WRX has a quicker 0-60 (being it gets to 60 in 2nd gear, not 3rd), Peak torque comes in 1700rpm sooner in the WRX, and the WRX has peak boost 800rpm sooner than the STI. With the WRX for a daily, you have a lot more usable power. New gen WRXs in my opinion and also based off this information, are better than the new gen STIs.

      @@ChristianHudnell If I were to get an STI, it would definitely be an older one (2004-2013). New gen STIs being its the same engine, the only thing the STI has gained over the years is more futuristic looks. With that, comes more weight. I dont know if you ever drove an older gen STI, but it has such a sorter all around wheel base. Its lighter, giving it a better power to weight ratio, making it more nimble, and able to carry itself only being 300hp. 300hp back in 2004-2008 was a lot of power to have coming from a 4 cylinder back in those days. But I also got the WRX over the STI. The biggest reason why is because the WRX is my daily driver and it spools up waaaaay sooner than the STI so there is much more usable torque for city driving. And I just couldn't square the price difference for a motor that is damn near 20 years old. I think once the tuner market gets really comfortable with the FA20, it will probably outperform the ej257 more reliably and still get better mileage. I think direct injection is way better for tuning out knock.

    Damn bro now you got me reconsidering my decision. Just ordered the ‘19 STI. but. The sti is my “affordable dream car” so I just said eff it why not. What’s your opinion on it?

      edward sabb the 19 STI is an AWESOME and amazing car! If you plan on building it up it’s amazing and perfect bro. You will love it. You won’t regret it at all. The STI Is great. Let me know how you like it if you get it :)

      Get the STI! I got rid of my 15 WRX and bought a 17 STI. I like the STI substantially better. I’ve had less problems with my EJ than I had with my FA knock on wood.

      @ccons003 Před 5 lety +1

      edward sabb you will love your STI. They are both great depending on your needs. I daily my STI with no issue, I also use it for Autocross. Get a Cobb and a custom tune and you will be more thank happy with it. I’ve own 2 STIs and driven WRXs they both serve their intend audience well. Don’t second guess your initial decision it’s your dream car.

      I just bought the kaki grey 19 sti and had a 12 wrx before after this upgrade I will never buy a wrx again in my life. Comparatively the WRX is a garbage car if you plan on modding past stock. Don’t waste your time. Get the sti

    I would totally get a WRX but 30% of the reason I am going to get an STI is that rumble. I love that sound. But holding off til 2020, want to see what they announce for the next gen. Which will determine whether I get a 2020 model or the next gen.

  • @chickenfkeryay
    @chickenfkeryay Před 5 lety +1

    Do you still have the vette or did you get rid of it.
    I feel you on some of the reasons you got the wrx as well. I just traded in my 14 mustang for a wrx and i wanted an sti because i love the transmission feel i went with a wrx right now because i just didnt want those high ass payments.
    Stock for stock the sti and wrx are very close in speeds due to power and the WRX low peak torque. I may keep the wrx if a short shifter and bushings make the tranny to my liking.

      1. I love the corvette power to weight
