It has happened to me as well during C1D Visa interview. She called another officer and saw my 25 years experience and looked into my letter of employment carefully. Immediately asked about my family and approved the visa. Its a great tip to cool the nerves during pause moment.

This happened to me when I was changing from a J-1 visa to an O-1 visa. The Officer asked me if I have the waiver to two years home country residency requirement. I didn't have that at that time with me since I was told that this requirement is not there for an O-1 visa. She then went back and returned within a min and said "nevermind it does not apply to O-1" and approved my case. But, I must say I was a little surprised for a minute because I went through four US visa interviews before that but this never happened (visa officer leaving the window).

Also I mistakenly indicated i have been arrested which wasn’t an arrest, It was just police paper checking in my country of residence. And i was refused, now i want to apply again after 5 years. While filing the form what should I say?

    Hi Mandy,
Thanks for the wonderful video. All the information you provide is very useful to know the US visa interview process.
My case: I had gone to US in F-2 visa and I changed it to F-1 status with the help of USCIS. Because of a project I needed to travel to Panama and I took an F-1 visa interview in the US embassy in Panama to return back to the US to continue my studies but the Visa Officer seemed too confused about my case that she had to leave the window multiple times and discuss with other visa officers. And she finally denied a visa even though she knew I was halfway through my Master's degree. The only reason I can think of why she denied my visa was because, at the time of interview, I didn't have a sponsorship document which was mentioned in my I-20. She could have denied me under 221(g) for that but she denied me on 214(b). I'm a Nepali citizen and there is no appointment available right now in Nepal. I'm so stressed about this condition, I would appreciate it if you could suggest me something.

Hi Mandy, I request you confirm the below f2 answers.
    1. Why did you choose F2 Visa and why not B2 Visa (visiting visa)?
Ans - As my wife is on F1, I applied for F2 and I believe that’s the correct visa type for me.
    2. What is the purpose of your visit? / Why are you going to the USA? Where are you going?
Ans - I want to go as I want to be with my wife on our wedding anniversary, who is studying her masters in the USA. And also, to see if she is all settled and doing good.
    3. Why is she not coming and you going? / So, you want to visit your wife and why is he not coming and you going?
Ans - She cannot come as she has picked up two courses in Summer and has to go to the University.
I want to go as I want to be with her on our anniversary. And to see if she is all settled and doing good.
    4. If she is busy with courses, what can you do?
Ans - She will be busy on a few weekdays, but free on weekends and other weekdays. So, we can spend some quality time and visit a few nearby places.
    5. It’s been a short while but why are you going?
Ans - Firstly, I want to be with her on our wedding anniversary. And I want to give her some moral support, as it’s her first time staying apart.
    12. Who is sponsoring for your trip? / Do you have any sponsor?
Ans - I will be funding my trip with savings of about 30,000 dollars as I have been working since quite a good time. And my wife has her funds already with savings, loan and sponsorship.
    13. Who sponsored your wife’s trip?
Ans - My father-in-law and my wife herself funded her trip as she worked for a good number of years. She had 27000 dollars savings, 34000 dollars of loan and also 30 percent scholarship.
    17. What will you do in your free time?
Ans - In my free time I will help my wife in the house-hold activities and any pending clean-up things. And when my wife has free time over weekends, we are planning to visit nearby places like New York -Time square, Boston and Rhode Island.
    18. Will she go for OPT?
Ans - She just completed her First semester. It is too early for me to say on her behalf. But she planned to come back to India as early as possible as I will be in India.
    19. Why didn’t you go along with your spouse?
Ans -I had to close a few targets of my business as the financial year was coming to end. And also, as she just went and I had no reason to travel.

This is so intesting. I thought I am the only one who have faced it during my 2nd visa interview.
Once I stayed in the USA for more than 4 months as I was riding my Tandem bicycle from Seattle to DC. I think this answer made the visa officer confused as it is not very common answer from someone like me especailly from a country where I am from. Then again, two years later, 5 months or so, I was riding the same tandem from Anchorage to Toronto. If you travel to Yukon from Alaska there were no Immigration in the US side but at the Canadian side in 2014. Today I got the answer why did my visa officer left the window! And fortunatly they believed me and issued another visa.
But thank you for sharing your expertise.

    Hello Mandy!
    Please read with patience.
I am currently applying for an f1 visa to get an associate's degree in Biology at College of San Mateo. I intend to transfer to Cal State Uni after the associate's. My interview is on August 10th at the US Embassy Dhaka, Bangladesh. I completed my Secondary/10th exams in December 2021. During 2022, I had to take a study gap to get my documents sorted. My birth certificate was outdated as well as my parents'. I didn't have a passport so I had apply for that and I had a spelling mistake in my academic transcripts. Basically almost the entirety of 2022 went away by me making several visits to the government offices. But I didn't abandon my studies. I took preparation for GEDs at home. I will hopefully get my GEDs done at least a month before the interview. Can I add GED to my educational history in my DS-160? Like Name of Institution: GED Testing Service, Course of Study: General Educational Development, Address: 1850 M STREET NW, Washington, DC? I got this information by contacting GEDs help section. Anyways, is putting this information going to be a red flag for me? Should I put it in there? Also does not taking traditional 12th exams and taking a GED cause a higher chance of denial? Please do tell. Thank you very much for reading.

This recently happened to me, I had a B1/B2 refusal. Now, I again applied. on the interview day, Visa officer was acting way too much weirdly. He started writing in the computer for about 3-5 mins. Moreover, he was taking long pauses and thinking thinking. Then he left the window came with a 221g form and gave it to me. He checked AP processing documents I need to send. And told me that we need to look at your documents and we're not refusing your visa. So, I sent it as they were listed. Now, how long this processing will take? Any ideas?

Hey, some situation occurred with us during our E2 visa interview. Eventually, they refused us after 221(g). But one mistake we also made during the 221 (g) paper submission. The officer asked for the original document ( Actually our document was a photocopy during interview ) Notarized from NY,USA. We submitted that but it was not the exact same paper it was a new one that we had submitted. The original one was on stump paper but we have submitted a new one (same document but in normal white paper ) without stump but notarized from NY, USA.
    Where was the mistake?
Applied again and waiting for the appointment date. Please help me officer.

Hi Mandy! I had two B1/B2 denials back when I was still in my teenage years along with my father. Our assumption is that it might be because we haven't travelled outside the GCC countries and because of the poor bank statement even though I was a student in that country which is a strong factor of home ties. In short, we were unprepared. Got refused by the same female officer by the way.
I decided to apply again but for the F-1 visa category for college back in 2020 yet unfortunately got refused. My mom's friend in the US is declared as my sponsor. The male officer who refused me did the exact same thing you said in the video. He took a long time when it was my turn because he left the window and typed so much in his computer after. This year, I decide to reapply for Fall 2023. My parents are now my declared sponsors, they will sponsor me using their savings, I also decided to apply in my home country instead of applying where we lived before because we also needed to go back home since my parents the retirement age already. We also made plans to travel for a short vacation in another country plus a strong bank statement just to make sure and also hopefully more confident answers. I'd love to know your thoughts on this please.

I recently faced a situation where my F-1 visa was canceled at the U.S. port of entry, and I was given a 5-year bar for alleged unauthorized employment, which I denied. The basis for this allegation was a WhatsApp conversation. The consulate in my country advised me to reapply for the visa, which I did. During my visa interview, the consular officer took my passport and documents. I provided a letter from my university stating that I was not involved in any unauthorized employment, details of an on-campus internship, and evidence of my good academic standing. Additionally, I showed my net worth certificate from a Chartered Accountant and other supporting documents.
Given these circumstances, is there anything more I can do to expedite my case? Are there any specific steps or additional documentation that could improve my chances of getting a waiver for the 5-year bar? Any advice on how to handle this situation to facilitate a quicker and favorable resolution would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

When asked about funding, i told self funded n nentioned the same in ds160. I am a working professional for more than a decade n i do have sufficient savings but the vo was stuck on same thing. How u n ur husband both unemployed now manage urself? Kept on typing a lot of things. Please help me figure out the case n how to overcome it.
