- Today we have Susan Tedeschi and Derek Trucks of the Tedeschi Trucks Band on the show. Derek Trucks made his name as a slide guitar prodigy with a Hall of Fame pedigree. He’s the nephew of Butch Trucks, drummer of the Allman Brothers Band, who Derek toured with extensively throughout the 2000s before forming the Derek Trucks Band.
Somewhere along the road, Derek met another great guitarist with a Berklee-pedigree, Susan Tedeschi, who is one of the best singers working today. Eventually the two married and merged their bands in 2010. Their latest album, I Am The Moon, is a collection of 24 songs across four different albums.
On today’s episode, Justin Richmond speaks with Susan and Derek about the beginnings of their band, and how their new album came to be. They also play some of their new songs live from backstage at the Greek Theater in Los Angeles.

This is probably my favorite interview with Derek and Susan. They are open, candid and truly generous in their praise of the other players in their band as well as the other musicians in their life. And they've managed to create a band that has seemingly figured it out. They've eliminated the excesses of the bands of the 60's and 70's and have created a cohesive well-oiled behemoth of a rock and roll band.
What a great interview! It’s very nice to hear these two… they’re so in love. In my opinion Susan is one of the strongest singers since Janice and Aretha… Derek is top notch and brings me to tears. There’s a lot to love with them.

They are amazing. The BEST! I only pray they don't get so big that the venues get too big.
I have that same feeling. I love being able to see these guys in small and medium-sized places like the Beacon in New York City or the Warner in Washington DC.
I seen Derek play in a small bar in Clearwater, Fl when he was about 17. Place was packed like sardines. Glad he’s had such a rich life being able to meet and befriend some of greatest musicians to have ever played. Thank you for another great interview, Rick.
Almost wish that Derek's & Susan's points were separately featured. Susan's spontaneous comment/responses paint great pictures, whereas Derek ponders before this condensed, power-packed phrase clears the canvas & inspires (at least me). Not complaining though, loved this & love this exceptional band. BTW, think it was Manson's 'Spooky Kids'.. Cheers Y'all.. ; ^ }

I saw them 2022 @ PNC Amphitheater, Charlotte, NC. Glad I did. Great concert. Incredible band/music.

Been a massive fan strangely since the pandemic freed me up to explore and man, I adore this band, Here in the UK we don't get to see them that often but I HAVE TICKETS! November can't come soon enough.

Saw TT w/Los Lobos. Everyone was great but in particular, Derek let loose around 3/4 through the show. His playing and tone was unreal!

Love this podcast, but why do you cut out the music? I can understand removing pre-recorded stuff because of copyright issues on youtube, but I don't see a reason to do it for live performances.
