- Rajesh Pillai. The name is certainly synonymous with the fountian pen community, especially the one in Pune. As a matter of fact, industry veterans go to the extent of pointing out that the contribution of Rajesh Pillai in creating the vibrant community of fountain pen and ink users in the region cannot be over-emphasized. It should also be mentioned in the same breath that it is Rajesh Pillai (and his wife) are behind the string of very successful Pen Shows in Pune and many of the characteristics that we kind of take for granted in pen shows these days, were originally innovated by this husband-wife duo. It was, therefore, a great pleasure to meet the Pillais at the Chennai Pen Show and I take the opportunity of presenting them to you.
They had their usual spread on their table - the Pelikan M 1000 and the like that are shown diligently in pen shows like these. But what really excited me was the fact that they were also showing fountain pens that are exclusively crafted in India by Indian craftsmen. On display were Urushi creations by Vivek Kulkarni and Lotuses in full bloom.
Vivek Kulkarni, I cannot resist the temptation of pointing out is the first and perhaps the only true Urushi master in India. He has painstakingly perfected his craft over many years and pens, created by him with their stunning gaits, have already created a dedicated pool of followers around the world. The Urushi inkwell that I saw here, was a revelation for me and I feel that we must put our hands together in applause for Urushi Studio India, which is etching our name in the global consciousness.
Also on display were fountain pens created by Arun Singhi of Lotus. For the uninitiated, Lotus had started its journey at a time when the fountain pen-collecting community (and the industry catering to them) was in its infancy. The growth and development of the industry has, to a very great extent, followed the same path that has witnessed the metamorphosis of Lotus, which has bloomed in all its magnificence. Lotus pens are not only sheer delights to behold these days but have also reached a kind of technical brilliance that sets them apart. It was therefore a very rewarding visit to the Pillai table for me - a long and happy one, indeed.

It Will be very helpful. I have been Watching your humble informative videos since a year now.
