    Nice that you have achieved the date runs and always love seeing all your Sovereigns.
    I’m stacking value Sovereigns at the moment, but who knows, I’m sure if after a few more years of stacking when I have many more and if I notice by chance I have a collection with a potential run, I’d probably go for it 👌

    • @SovereignSaurus
      @SovereignSaurus  Před rokem +3

      On the whole most of my sovs have come from best value or at least best value type prices. The date run isn't realistically going to add any value to my stack if I were to sell to a dealer it's unlikely to gain anything extra and in the private market it's unlikely someone would want to buy a whole date run... Best value is a great plan.

    This accured, because in 1887 Queen victoria had her golden jubilee. The jubilee head was used in1887 in the UK, but their was not time to ship the new jubilee type to Australia, in time, so Sydney mint new South Wales at the beginning of 1887 had the young head, then the middle of 1887 they received the new jubilee head dies from the Royal mint then London. This was also the same for Melbourne mint. The same same accured in 1893 Australia had the jubilee head, then near the end of 1893 changed to old head design. All the dies were prepared at the Royal mint then London and shipped out to Australia.

    Hello mate, thanks for the information 👍 regarding the best buy option on the sovereigns, and the new copper colour. At what ratio do you get the old-school gold colour ones vs the new copper colour in those best buy deals? I normaly buy from atkinsons, looking to get my first one in afew weeks, just trying learn as much as I can before hand. Cheers mate 🍻

    BTW, I've seen a jubilee head shield back, but only in a half sovereign, I cannot find any definitive information stating that full sovereign equivalents were not produced

    • @SovereignSaurus
      @SovereignSaurus  Před rokem +1

      I've not seen one available, they're not listed in Marsh book or Spink. There is a great resource for the Jubilee heads and you might have heard them referred to as DISH numbered. David Iverson and Steve Hill's initials I assume.... Can't find it on Amazon but try this

    Just want to pick your brain… I have 5 sovereign coin with the old Victoria face on it …. I bought it 40 years ago … just wondering if it’s worth anything? Cheers

    • @SovereignSaurus
      @SovereignSaurus  Před rokem

      Yes, this video might help. If it's a 5 sovereign coin the condition will play an important part. Trying to get more than the simple bullion value from most dealers is difficult though many simply won't pay the true value with the collector premium because they need a margin to make a profit.
      There's a website called coin archives you could search for the specific date you have and see comparable prices for the same coin in similar condition.
      This video might help too.

    I've got those two dates with the different heads, 'warning me' got me worried.
    Also I've got a young head shield and a George and Dragon of the same date
    Previous to this content I was quite chuffed that I acquired the anomalies.
    I never thought about date runs,
    Just checked gillick 1957 - 1968 (1960 and 1961 n/a ?). Were there any later gillicks after 1968?
    Edward 1902 - 1910, ok
    George 1911 - 1932+++++++ huge gaps, 1916, 1919 - 1924, 1929, 1930, 1933 - ........................
    Then Queen Elizabeth starting 1957.
    Could anyone reading this hypothetically fill my gaps (1911 through to the mid 1930s)?

    • @SovereignSaurus
      @SovereignSaurus  Před rokem

      When I first realised to dates with different portraits I had a quick shot of adrenaline wondering if I'd got something dodgy until I realised 🤣 Similar with the first young heads that are in coin alignment rather than the more recent sovs 1887 onward in medal alignment

    You may also be interested to know, that female sovereigns in the old day's in Muslim countries were considered inferior to male sovereigns, and we're rated lower then male sovereigns, but today they are now both equal to each other.
